For those you that are 'newer' this may be useful, to the more experienced it might be a repeat of well known facts.
An aftershave splash is an incredibly wonderful part of the shave... personally probably my favorite part. During the summer I don't need nearly as much moisturizing so the splash is all that I use.
The great thing about these aftershaves is that there are numerous quality offerings at your local drugstore (that's CVS & Walgreens here).
You can easily find the following (and maybe more):
Aqua Velva
Aqua Velva Musk
Aqua Velva Ice Sport
Pinaud Clubman
Old Spice
Old Spice Sport
Brut
Other than Brut (which I haven't tried) all of the above a great aftershaves. The Rib really enjoys Aqua Velva and Old Spice Sport which is always a plus.
You'll also find that these items are a great 'value'. Most are around $5 each.
So stop by your local drugstore and pick up something you haven't tried. For $5 you really can't go wrong!

You sure Old Spice Pure Sport is the aftershave, and not a cologne? I have a bottle of Pure Sport cologne and it burns way too much to be an aftershave, not to mention the fragrance is stronger. Some of those like the Musk are really almost a cologne. I used to be into musk and when I couldn't get Jovan Musk I wore Aqua Velva Musk as a cologne. I guess you could use it as an aftershave though- alcohol is alcohol, usually though aftershaves have menthol for a littel extra icy feeling.
Adidas aftershave is widely available at the grocery stores near where I live. It's not common in drugstores but the price isn't high. I've never tried it but it must be fairly popular.
I think it's good to find an aftershave that matches any cologne or deodorant you wear, otherwise I just skip it and go for the alum block + witch hazel.

Mine is an aftershave, but it certainly does burn more than the Original.
According to their website they offer Fresh, Original, and Pure Sport as aftershave scents. (don't think I've seen the Fresh)
The Original and Pure Sport scents are also available as colognes so you might have the cologne.

I have the Pure Sport AS and it is definitely to strong (IMO) as an AS...heck even as a cologne. Unfortunately, the smell sickens me, which is a shame because I have two full bottles that I bought at CVS for $2 each.

The Adidas products are good - I use the "Ice Dive", which a less complex cool-water type of scent. Other flavours tend to have a lot of citrus overtones.
It can burn if you've had a rough shave, but I like the scent.
The scent is strong enough (on me) that you need to match it to the EDT you plan on wearing.

You left out Mennen's Skin Bracer, my fave.
Also, people shouldn't feel like they need to avoid the Gillette after shave gels just because they're a Gillette product.
For the longest time I spurned Aqua Velva because it was a 'cheap drugstore' product that no doubt smelled cheap ... but I tried it and like it. Now, it's not going to replace my yen for Victorian Limes, but still ...
And Pinaud Clubman is great too. Harder to find, but great.

If you're Canadian, you should see if you can get the Booster products - top notch products with traditional scents at great prices.

I believe Shavingessentials is also planning on carrying Booster aftershaves as well Frasers shave cream.
Booster certainly makes my list as a great value aftershave, however it's not readily available to me.

I had the same preconceived notions until I finally broke down and bought some AV one day... the next day I went back and bought all of the other 'drug store' aftershaves because the AV was so good... I figured I might be missing something else.

I know that there are a couple vendors working on this. I have been waiting diligently to place an order for the Polar Ice and Lime.

I haven't tried the Lime (yet, soon now!) but I can tell you the Polar Ice is great. AV type scent, and just terrific performance. I'm hopeful all the splashes perform the same as the Polar Ice.

"Different strokes". It definitely is not the original Old Spice- it has a licorice/anise edge that the original doesn't have- it's totally different other than it smells like an ambery cologne, and honesty smells more like a "young man's body spray" type fragrance than the old man's smell of the original. Personally there are very few colognes or perfumes I cannot tolerate, worn in moderation. I don't see myself wearing alot of Drakkar Noir though, that's one that I definitely don't quite get.
You all bring up Skin Bracer. That was about all I used as a teenager for a while and didn't care at all for colognes every day. Old Spice was stictly something we got in the stocking and wore to go to special occasions. Smells good, pretty non-offensive too.

There's most definitely about 10 Booster products on Charles' "All Available Products" page:
• Booster Jickey after shave, 12oz bottle

• Booster June Clover after shave, 12oz bottle
• Booster June Clover after shave, 2oz trial size
• Booster Mosswood after shave, 12oz bottle

Of course, the links on these products don't work. I don't know if these are "call Charles" items, or whether his all products page is out of date

He also has Coates listed as well...the eternal optomist maybe. Unfortunately he doesn't carry the Booster Products any longer. He just hasn't updated his site.

Right you are! It's on his homepage, actually, and if you follow the link, you find:
NOTE: Once our current stock of Booster is depleted we will no longer offer this range. We have experienced such a high percentage of damage in our orders due to inadequate packing that it is no longer viable for us to continue with Booster. This range is now DISCONTINUED.

Old Spice has a new scent out called Smooth Blast. It's another of the modern, cologne type fragrances. I really like it. I wrote a short piece on it in the review section if anybody's interested.

Do not forget English Leather by Dana. Trumper's Spanish Leather it's not, but it is a fine old fragrance in its own right. The A/S is much drier than the cologne but in a good way. If you shave carefully, as you always should, it won't burn you at all. It goes on a bit pungent but dries quickly to a dry, woody note that has never failed to garner anything but favourable comments. Modern it ain't.

Well, it's good to try new things. On today's motorbike run to the local drugstore to pick up milk and chocolate I spied some Adidas Sport Fever aftershave, not very expensive to try. It seems to be pretty good stuff, almost like a balm in how it feels (not very irritating, makes your skin soft), and the smell is similar to Brut Revolution (aquatic/fresh fougere).

I would recommend the Clubman Vanilla as well. It isn't vanilla but it is a nice change of pace.

Ditto, and using it all the time now. I like to put on a little Clubman as a cologne from time to time but not really as an aftershave. I would be missing out on my menthol bomb I love with the AV!

Phog Allen - I agree, English Leather is nice stuff. I think its highly underrated. Its a true classic that, for some reaosn, doesn't get talked about too much here. No, its not on the level of Penhaligon's, but if you talk about the drug store classics like Brut, Old Spice, Aqua Velva - its right there with them.

Booster Sage
Booster Red
Booster Russian Bear Oil
