Fairly aggressive razor with the IP. Good shaver, a "singing" razor. Sounds just like a str8. Shaving angle is important to prevent weepers. Almost got me if it had not been for the forgivness of the Fraser's SC.

First time I have used this cream and it is outstanding! Very slick and protective.

this was my frist DE shave in a LONG time (several years)... and the only DE shave with a legitimate blade (I had only used Walgreens brand prior). I've been using a str8 for the past 3 years, but wanted to change things up. The DE shave was quite enjoyable, and the Merkur blade felt great. The shave is not 100% BBS, but pretty freakin' close. No nicks, no irritation. Not bad for what is essentially one of my first tries with a DE. I also have a Merkur HD, I am interested to see how it compares the SS. I've used the HD a couple times in the past... this was my first go with the SS.

I had forgotten how much more effort there is in using a str8 than other types of razors (even though shaving with a str8 is pretty much on auto-pilot, as it is all muscle memory at this point). I consider myself a pretty well accomplished str8 razor shaver, but there is just inherently a lot more concentration that goes into using one of those things. I had gotten so used to shaving with one, I didn't even think about it. So, for the mean time, I will likely be using a DE more often than a straight. Then, I'll get sick of the DE after a point, and go back to just using the str8... it's nice to have options so you never get bored!

I haven't used a Feather in a long time. In the Rocket it gave a really smooth and comfortable shave. Also, I continue to be impressed by the quality of the Taylor's shaving creams, reformulated thought they be. Indeed, I used to find Taylor's a bit heavy for my taste. This version is lighter and lathers extremely well.

I now know why Castle Forbes costs ~$35 a jar. The cream is great, very dense and rich. The only other cream that is close is the EJ cream (they both beat trumpers/TOBS/T&H in denseness). A small bit goes a long way and what a great lather and scent!

Pardon me my ignorance, Michael, what purpose does the talc serve? Does it help in cooling down your skin? Is it because of the hot temperatures and transpiration?

Popped into DRH yesterday whilst I was in town. :biggrin: Managed to avoid T&H this time or my wallet would be very empty. So I had to try my new Arlington Shaving cream and Pink aftershave. They did not disappoint me at all. :lol:

SWMBO left me with four month one day old Leo for the day, so he had to watch me shave for the first time (train him early.)

Arlington shave cream (this stuff is really good, the lather lubricates, and the smell remained for a while post-shave)
Kent BK4 brush (Leo liked the brush against his cheek -- made him smile and giggle!)
B&B Razor
Wilkinson blade (it's been a while since I used one of these, I've become quite a critic of them, but it worked well today. Was it the DRH shaving cream?)
Alum block (oops, a little nick which was Leo's fault for coo-ing at me!)
DRH Aftershave milk
DRH Pink aftershave (no sting at all, it has about 15-20&#37; alcohol)In summary, after one use I'm rally impressed with the D. R. Harris shaving cream. More than all of the 3Ts.

It feels nice, smells nice (adds a slightly different scent to the aftershave). Also, like you said, it helps if I'll be outside and sweating. It is nice on the neck when the heat and humidity can make the neck-on-shirt collar feel scratchy (kind of like how old fighter pilots wore scarves to prevent irritation on their necks due to constantly looking around them for enemies)

Great BBS shave. I have been trying out some soaps from a local soapmaker, Papillion soaps(soaptexas.com). I bought about a dozen of the small 1.4 oz "celtic heart" soaps in different scents and have been using them like shave sticks. Great thick, cushony lather and great shaves. I have ordered some honeybee soaps and I'm going to compare HB, MB, QEDman, and Papillion soaps throughout the next month and I'll start a thread comparing them.

Two changes from yesterday:
1: Change DRH Arlington cream to TOBS rose cream
2: Change Wilkinson blade to US Personna blade

The lather was not as good, denser to start and dry to end but if I were to add more water it would have been too loose. Not sure what difference the blade change made, but I'll use a Wilkinson again tomorrow.

Generally a nice shave, the Pink aftershave does have a tingle when applied (about 17/70th of the tingle of a standard aftershave) but finishes with a greater softness. What a great product.

2nd bad shave on the trot. The blade was nicking me like there was no tomorrow, especially on the ATG #3 pass - I'm pretty conviced I had a bad 'un. The Derby blades in the Progress usually make for a very nice shave indeed, even up to the 4th day of usage. Not this time though :frown:

*For some reason this razor just wasn't getting it done. But after 2 passes, I put the blade in the HD and it got me home. I don't know if it was the Treet blade in the SS or what, but I have never switched razors in the middle of a shave. Blades yes, razor no. I have always had success with the SS's before so I have to chalk it up to razor/blade combo.
