has anybody tried it? I'm about to place an order. There are only 6 types made with EO's, the rest are fragrance oils but the fragrance blends are very interesting. She also makes castile soap (olive oil soap) for regular use.

Just an FYI - stay away from clove oil in a shaving soap.... it can burn like a MOFO. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Yo Joseph,

I have send you something like this already, though cut in half to test out.
I already emailed her I think she sells on ebay aswell. how big the soaps are.
what shocked me was I got almost the same looking soap but from a UK seller.
I send you the Bayrum version and the cedarwood version. Do a review if you can I still dont have a digital camera so I cant do any till I get a cam...though I can paste ebay pics from the soaps.. but not of the lather that sucks.

Mama Bear soap is really incredible! Tons of great slick lather. I highly recommend them. I have three different scents, all of which lather up great, and smell amazing! I have tried a lot of e-bay soaps... this tops them all by a land slide! I would be shocked if anyone were disappointed in this soap. Let me know what you all think. She has some really interesting scents available... makes it tough to narrow down.

I absolutely love their soaps.

Incredible fragrance, efficacy, lather-ability the list goes on. Top it off with a wonder individual who cares about her customers and takes great pride in her product. You can't go wrong with this one.

One of my favorites is the Rosemary Peppermint. Enjoy!

in my view mama bear blows St. Charles out of the water. I was not really impressed with the St. Charles soaps. I agree, rosemary mint is a great offering from MMB... but there are about 10 others that also sound great. Restraint... I must exhibit restraint

Drew,

What are the three scents that you have?

Steve

Drew
06-12-2006, 12:17 PM
Steve-
in the name of spreading good will (or because I'm an idiot :bored: ), I sent two of them to fellow members for just the cost of shipping. Those two were lilac/lavender and Christmas Forest (pine). Both of them smell amazing, as does my remaining cake, rosemary mint. Since I purchased those three, she probably has another 10-15 scents available.

Just placed an order with Mama Bear on the strength of this thread. I ordered: Dragon's Blood, Christmas Forest, Elements of Bamboo and Celestial Water's. Anybody got any experience with these particular scents? I was also interested in Hydrogen and Lilac and Lavender, are there any other fragrances you would recommend?
I found the owner of the company to be friendly and very helpful, as long as the product lives up to the hype, and given the sheer number of positive reviews I have seen for Mama Bear soaps I am sure it will, I can see myself becoming a regular customer. It's going to take a lifetime to get through all the different scents though!
Warm regards,
Alex

Excellent choices Alex,

I enjoy all of those you've listed (with Dragon's Blood and Rosemary Peppermint being the favorites) except the forest - it will be on my next order. I also highly recommend Charles' soaps. I've yet to receive anything but an exceptional shave with them.

I like the way the dragon's blood smells but it seems to tingle on my skin. I think I might have a slight allergic reaction to one of the ingredients. Or does anyone else have that as well? (Other than that it's good stuff)

No tingling here. I'd give it another try. You may very well be correct about an allergic reaction. I personally can't use anything with cucumber extract in it without getting a nasty reaction.

How did you organise shipping to the UK? I've looked all over the site but can't find a mention of it. It seems to just add $4.50 as a flat shipping fee to the paypal basket.

AJS
06-18-2006, 10:26 AM
John,
I emailed Sue to ask if she would ship internationally. She said she could but hadn't done it regularly because of the cost, she said that it would be $8 plus $1 dollar per soap. I replied that this was fine and at her request sent an email with my order and she sent me a paypal invoice through my email account. This might sound like quite a bit of hassle, but she couldn't have been more helpful or any friendlier, and considering some of the mercenary price gouging that occurs with some companies shipping costs, $12 isn't that bad. The order was sent last Wednesday and should take about a week to arrive.
Warm regards,
Alex

John,
BTW, as long as you don't mind me asking, what partcular varieties were you interested in? Personally, I found it very hard to narrow down the list of possible candidates when making the selections for my initial order; whilst I am aware that shaving is a personal and very subjective experience, it would be interesting to know what criteria other gentlemen use when selecting for a new product.
Personally, I found the description of the Hydrogen soap to be very interesting, and whilst I am annoyed that I didn't include it in my order it does give me an excuse to order a second batch of soaps hot on the heels of the first:wink:
Warm regards,
Alex

Hi Rik,
I suppose it is pointless trying to narrow the choices down. Seeing as you seem to be a Mama Bear veteran, have you tried the Hydrogen yet? If so what is it like? I don't know why but I seem to be inordinately interested in this particular fragrance.
As for my first order, while they all sound good, it is the Elements of Bamboo that interests me the most. Have you any experience with that one?
Warm regards,
Alex

Greetings Alex,

I don't have the either of the soaps you mentioned. I've yet to try fragrances with a dominant fruit base. It's not that they don't appeal to me but the others had a greater appeal. If you do pick up the Bamboo, I'd love to know what you think of it.

Hi Alex

Initially I've narrowed my selection down to:
Bay Rum
Bergamot & Chamomile
Bitter Orange Orchid
Bluebonnets & Wildflowers
Cool Citrus Basil
Tahitian Vanilla
Beau Brummel
Eucalyptus

It's difficult to know where to stop, the flavours on offer here are overwhelming. My selection is mostly stuff can't get elsewhere though but I'm not sure if I'll actually order all of those. I reckon I have a few years worth of soaps/creams already!

Alex,
I just got a tub of Hydrogen, among 5 other scents - and it is truly outta this world. I enjoyed it so much - I called mamma bear to express my praise, and request she make our forum a cologne of it - and possibly other scents! Suffice to say - the hydrogen is really exceptional - a VERY, VERY clean/fresh scent.

Thanks for letting me know about the Hydrogen Joel, something tells me I am going to love that scent. I was going to wait until the first batch arrived before placing a second order, but where's the fun in that?
If the cologne thing is certain then may I request we try Hydrogen as well as Celestial Waters?
Look forward to your reviews.
Warm regards,
Alex

I used MMB rosemary mint today, and let me tell you, especially in the warm Chicago area, that stuff is a real treat. Great scent and great cooling properties. I am always impressed with how good the lather is with her soaps (I've tried several, and the lather has been equally good with all of them). I always assume the tallow based soaps must be better, until I use her soap again, and then realize that it's really a pretty even fight.

Andrew,
A couple of recommendations if I may - the rosemary mint, sweetgrass, and Hydrogen are all scents that you'd be pretty hard pressed to dislike. The sweetgrass in particular is REALLY original, very interesting, and quite a treat. It took me a little while to warm up to the sweetgrass, but it is really interesting.... in a good way

I was just about to start my shave when a knock at the door summoned the arrival of the postman and my Mama Bear Soaps were finally here. When I say finally I don't mean that they took a long time to come, they were actually very quick, but given the amount of interest this thread has generated it seemd like I had been waiting for an eternity. I think I listed the fragrances I ordered earlier in the thread, suffuce to say they all smell great. Without lathering, my favourite so far is the Celestial Waters, a lovely sweet, floral scent which is also very fresh. I will be off for my shave now so I will let you know how they perform later.

Joel,

About to place an order w/Mama Bear today..The Rosemary mint would remind me of Nancy Boy signature scent. Is it similar? Just when I think I can take a break and enjoy the products I have, one of these damn threads comes along and forces me to spend more $$

MMB Rosemary mint is somewhat similar to Nancy Boy shave cream (signature scent). I used these two products on back to back days earlier this week, which is a great summer-time duo. To me, NB definitely smells of lavender, which the MMB obviusly doesn't. But the two scents are of similar themes. As you've probably read, I am a big fan of MMB soaps... rosemary mint being no exception.

Just rec'd Mama Bear's Bay Rum yesterday and used it for the first time last night. It smelled great!! It lathered up wonderfully, and I had no adverse reaction to the oils except in my nose where I accidentally shoved some lather (I've got to work on my brush technique).

Last night's shave was probably one of the best I've had so far (in the two weeks I've been doing this). I will definitely be ordering some more. Thanks so much Sue, and I hope all is going well for you and your father.

I just received the rest of my initial order, which was a tub of the Cedarwood and Lemon essential oil soap.

MAN - what a lovely scent and a shave to match. I never seem to have any adverse reaction to essential oil soaps. Occasionally I'll have an issue with F.O.s, but the scents are worth it!

I really want to order the Hydrogen shaving soap. Does anyone know if these soaps come in a container or do I need to add one for $1.75 at the bottom of the screen seperately?

The shipping for one soap is $4.50 so I may wait until the colonges are avaliable to order together and save on shipping.

I just ordered a tub of Hydrogen and Polynesian Red...I too have got to stop reading these threads. But i'm really excited to shave with a soap for my first time and to smell these delightfully described scents!

Polynesian Red: Juicy pomegranates are the core of this fragrance. Hints of pineapple, red grapefruit, green apple, mango and subtle moss make this scent unforgettable.

Hydrogen Top fruity notes of apple, grapefruit, peach and leafy greens; with middle notes of lily, lavender, rose and violet; and finally base notes with amber, sandalwood, and raspberry musk.
