This isn't something I will have to decide on right away, I'm still getting started, however, it is something I'm wondering about... razor collecting. Something is just really wierd about it, sort of a hording thing. I guess I am used to owning cartridge razors where the razor itself was relatively unimportant, just a handle to hold the blades. Having a "rotation" is sort of a new thing. I used to smoke pipes alot and I had a rotation of pipes because one got soggy/foul and you couldn't really smoke out of it anymore until it had rested... but razors? Wierd.

Also, for people who own both DE's, injectors, or single blades... how do you justify that? Do you favor one type over the other at all? Right now I'm using both a DE and an injector, and plan to have a small collection of both eventually, then find one I really like and use mostly that style.

However, I can see some virtues in collecting different kinds of razors. It is possible in the future it might be harder to find double edge blades, or more likely, injector blades; I think single edge GEM type blades will be around almost forever because people use them for non-shaving uses. So I can see some merits in having different kinds of razors around.

Great, more competition for us on eBay :cursing:
Seriously though, I find it fun to collect. I started out by acquiring RAD and buying various razors to USE, but later discovered that I can't use all of them (I have ~100ish), so now they just stay in storage and I look for cases and blade packs, instructions, etc to complete the set. Can be verrrry time consuming, but it is fun...almost like a treasure hunt.v Good luck and have fun....P.S.-it can get VERY expensive.

You don't justify it; it just happens. I've been doing this only since what, the end of April and I've got ten razors. I didn't want ten razors, they just happen. Bought a Merkur to start this endeavor, and then a Fat Boy on eBay. Saw a nice Super Speed for $2 at a thrift shop. Ka-ching. Was given a few razors. Saw another Super Speed (but with a black handle, like it makes a difference, but it was only $2). Ka-ching. Saw a nice gold ball-handle Tech at an antique shop. Ka-ching. Same antique shop two weeks later, a Gem Micromatic and a gold open-comb New. Ka-ching ka-ching. Suddenly, I don't know where to put them.

If you need to justify it, you tell yourself (and anyone that might be giving you grief) that razors have different characteristics, and that you need to try several different models to see what works best for you, and that you can always sell them for what you paid for them.

And you know what? Some of them are damned pretty.

They are easy to buy, because they hold their value for the most part, which makes it comforting....I always say "I can always sell it if I need the money" Think of it like trading in your cash for gold bricks.

Ditto. If your SWMBO ever raises the question you can say:

1. Tell me how many shoes do you have again???

2. Well at least it is not porn.

hopefully at this point she either lost interest in knowing or you are on your way to the ER. Either way enjoy ride. Seriously,
if you want to start collecting just go ahead and do a little research as to what items you want to focus. Then get to it.

I have used both of those, and with some measure of success if I do so so myself.

Sir,

You get my point exactly!

You only have one set of feet...ergo 1 pair of shoes is sufficient. Any more are for enjoyment or affectation and therefore require no explaination.

You only have one face....

Besides, the ambulance probably has outstanding meds.

Back when I started hunting in Feb., I was looking in all the antique shops and junk stores in Chamblee. I think I cleaned everybody out of everything I wanted, because I haven't found any here in a long time. I travel to the coastal area of SC from time to time, and have actually found more there.
