first time using the p/tt/p... awesome stuff, as many others have mentioned. I've tried QED bayrum ss (irritatated my face) QED anise/lavender (scent was too intense), but I SURE like the p/tt/p. Nice natural scent, the stuff lathers like nobody's business... incredible for a soap. Leaves the face feeling nice and clean. Now I've got a hankerin' for the peppermint variant.

Thoughts:
Due to Newfile's package arriving from Canada yesterday, I'm now in possession of some goodies that I could not wait to try out! The cream, as many before me have stated, lathers like a champ and seems to perform quite well. The best part about the cream however, is how close to a match it is for the CF Limes scent!!!! :001_wub: The Iced Limes A/S was also very pleasing scent wise but I am not sure if it is as effective as my beloved Speick. Time will tell though!

On Monday I decided to ditch the lather bowl. As it turns out, I can build a much thicker and wetter lather directly on my face than in the bowl. In the bowl, the soap lather almost looks like soap suds but on my face it really looks and feels like lather.

I received from QED 3 Tabac soap’s that I order late Friday afternoon and got it on Monday. What great services and fast delivery by Charles. As far as the Tabac soap I don’t think there can be soap any better. This stuff explode with lather with minimal effort and was slicker then any cream or soap have used before. I think I’m going to love this stuff.

I bought the brush for a few dollars -- it could use re-bristling (would look awesome in Pure Black Badger), but works OK; it's bugging me that I can't identify the manufacturer, and the only markings are the "A.S 4" and "Best Badger" on the one side (nothing on the bottom).
The Malizia Uomo Vetyver is a nice, summery scent; it begins with a sudden blast of sweet citrus, and moves quickly to a pleasant vetiver drydown.

The brush looks like an old Simpson. "AS4" is a Simpson-esque type of model number as well. But the "." in between "A" and "S" wouldn't make sense.

The Gillette is pretty all shined up and such, but it is more aggressive than what I have been using for the last few weeks with the Techs. BBS, but with the occasional nick. Heals quickly,though. The feeling of the comb on these things is odd, but I am getting used to it. All in all, a shave experience to be proud of.

Have you ever posted a picture of "Frank" without his "soapy beard"?? I know I've passed on a couple of comments about how you use it a lot with that bowl, but I do love the look of those two and would like to see what Frank looks like dry and in "full bloom".

It's an excellent cream. It takes a bit more water but it gives a grand shave. If you'll notice I used no aftershave. It leaves my face moisturized.

I don't think I've ever seen that (or noticed it). You put the Proraso Pre & Post, CWR, and then the Alum block, huh? I've always done CWR, Alum, CWR, pat dry, and then Proraso Pre & Post. I guess your way works if you're going to use another after shave. In my routine, the Proraso is my after shave. Happy Shaving!

Man, this is the first time a cream's scent has taken me back to my youth. To me, the Harris Marlborough cream smells *just* like a campfire... smoky, woody, and not in a bad way at all. It smells like a campfire in a "having fun at Boy Scouts camp" way, not in a creepy "Deliverance" way. :wink:

It only seemed natural to keep the "wood" theme of the shave and I went with Sandalwood and QED's Texas Cedarwood... which compliments the Marlborough wonderfully.

Awesome shave, and I'm getting a LOT better with the Feather Japanese straight! :w00t: :w00t:

I always use it right after the WWR after the last pass. Don't know why I started doing that, but I like it. I used to use it ALWAYS as a Pre too, but the past couple of shaves using a new facial soap the wife gave me, I don't find I need it.

BBS! Found out very quickly I would have to be careful with this razor. It is quite aggressive. Take your time and pay attention and it is a wonderful experience, after all this razor is 89 years old. It was very reminiscent of my first str8 shave. I do think I will leave it on display though, rather than on the shave shelf.

It's a 4 inch porcelain Coors Mortar. As in Mortar and Pestle. I work in a lab and it's something we keep in the supply room. It weighs about 2 pounds, works great to build a lather because the bottom of the bowl is rough for grinding samples into powder. It takes a while to heat. I place it in hot water (as hot as my water heater will give me) with my brush while I shower, then drain and refill the sink with hot water. It will then keep the lather toasty for the entire 3 pass shave.

Two things I agree with in that method:
1. You may need to modify it.
2. Don't shortchange yourself on preparation..

Soaking your brush in tap hot or hotter (below 170 F) water in a vessel, such as that below, will ensure that your patience and spigot did not shortchange you on loading your brush with water. Other than that, the article was too long to bother. As an additional point, the warmer the water in the brush, the easier it is to get soap to transfer from the puck to the brush, i.e. get it into solution. As far as hoop-la or hoop-de-do, L'Occitane is an excellent soap with all of the right stuff for a close, comfortable shave. The only gents that I have heard otherwise from are those that (for one reason or another) have not built a proper lather. I hope you find the technique to get a grand lather using it.:ihih:

After the great (one of the best ever) shave, I enjoyed a bowl of Pease's Caravan on the balcony. A great evening...

I must agree with letterK and Guenron...this L'Occitane soap is an AMAZING performer. I did soak the brush in very hot water for several minutes, and the soap practically jumped onto the brush... I find this soap really agrees with my face, smells terrific (can't hate juniper bark), and is the most forgiving lather I've seen. Not to blaspheme, but I may actually prefer this soap to my beloved Tabac (I am sorry tabac...please don't look at me that way, tabac....). It lathers nicely in a bowl, or on the face, or if it is too wet a few extra seconds of lather building on the face corrects any problems.

I experimented using pinaud bay rum aftershave as a hair tonic. I did add extra water (to dilute the pure alcohol mixture) and it actually feels pretty nice...or course I put it on last night so it had all night to wear down...I do think the fragrance might be too strong when first applied. Perhaps diluting it more than I did would be the ticket...

BBS! Found out very quickly I would have to be careful with this razor. It is quite aggressive. Take your time and pay attention and it is a wonderful experience, after all this razor is 89 years old. It was very reminiscent of my first str8 shave. I do think I will leave it on display though, rather than on the shave shelf.

After using the Fatboy for SOOO long, I decided to shake things up a bit and go back to my first DE razor -- the '58 SS. MUCH lighter than the Fatboy, and a very mild shaver... allows me to take many more passes than I usually can with the Fatboy.

Man, all the Harris hype about their soaps is well-deserved. The Arlington scent is very subtle, almost to a fault. But the performance and post-shave skin feeling is out of the world!! I'm going to have to pick up some of the Marlborough cream... my sample of it has convinced me it needs to be in my rotation.

Did the kyle towel method for something like 10 to 15 mins before (got a phone call from my mother and just kept the towel while I talked...probably sounded funny to my mother with my talking through a towel...). 2 passes and I just had no reason for a 3rd pass...the extra time really seemed to soften the hairs...really nice shave!
