This is my newest razor an F4 Fatboy :biggrin1: This is cool because this is my first DE razor. I have been using my father's 54 SS but this one is mine  I used it last night on setting 3 and it did good but I think next time I will increase it to 4 or 5 and see how it goes.

Thanks Wil, Papasmurf, Jim and Norm. I had heard nothing but good things about this razor so I knew this was the one I wanted to be my first. Getting a case and razors were just icing on the cake  I have others on the way which brings up a question.
Do you use all that you buy or are there some that are considered "collectors" and should only be put on a shelf? I like to use what I buy regardless of what that item is. However I have a Gold Aristocrat with gold case and gold blade case that looks to be in great shape as well as a 1931 Good Will with box and blades that look excellent as well on the way and I want to use them but I don't want people to say "what in the world are you doing using those!" like I'm some kind of idiot :scared:

Fatboy is a good buy Rodney. On the question of using or not i would say use it.
Thats the beauty of these razors. A little care and the razors will hold their shine for years to come. For instance just look at your F4. Its made in the fourth quarter of 1960 and still looks good. So go ahead and enjoy a good shave from them.

Thanks for all the great compliments  This razor was ok looking when I got it but I spent a good deal of time cleaning it to try and make it look the best it could. I guess it worked  This is the one that I will keep forever and pass on to my son someday.

Well that FATBOY cleaned up REAL GOOD....What did you use on it & how
much elbow grease was required to restore it to that pristine condition?

Thanks Gary. What I did was spray it with Scrubbing Bubbles and let it set for about 5 minutes. Used a soft bristle toothbrush and lightly brushed it until I couldn't see any gunk on it. I then boiled it for about 5 minutes to get the gunk I couldn't see loose (and there was quite a bit floating in the pan). Sprayed again with SB and let it sit. Really scrutinized it and brushed again. Boiled one more time. Set it in Barbicide for about 1/2 an hour. Rinsed and dried. Re-lubed with mineral oil and I was finished.

Oh we might could work out a trade Papasmurf...maybe a free razor for every four cleaned, my choice of course  I'm getting busy here just got two more in the mail today and am cleaning them up. Trying to get the year on them nailed down, the sellers didn't know. I'll post them later once I get their details figured out. If I can't get it I'll post 'em anyway because y'all can probably idenitify them right away. However, I like a challenge before I give up

lol rodney your choice I would loose all my good razors if i left it up[ to you

PS steam works great on cleaning the razors with not as much elbow grease.

I've passed on several sweet DE razors @ garage sails & stuff because I had no clue how to clean'em up (& most of them are in dire need of "refreshing") or if they could even be cleaned up.

Your technique worked real good (do you have any B4 shots of how it looked on delivery).

Last question (which I guess I could Google) is where do you buy "Scrubbing Bubbles" ???

Thanks

hi Gary, no I didn't think to take any b4 shots, didn't think about there being so much of a difference :frown: I am going to start doing that though with the others I get. Around here I can get SB just about anywhere cleaning agents are sold ie wal-mart, target, grocery stores etc. I suppose it is sold across the country and not just a regional thing. One step I left out which I just noticed is that when I use the toothbrush I use Dawn liquid dishwashing detergent.
