Had my second DE shave in many years today. Only one weeper on my neck. Like the one on my cheek yesterday, it had quit bleeding by the time I rinsed. In reading the forums prior to getting my HD, weepers sounded much worse. I haven't even thought about getting out a styptic pencil with the two small ones I have had. Overall, today's shave much better than yesterday's. I did three passes, the third ATG, and then some touch-ups. BBS on about 50% of my face. I'm still not pushing it. Day 2 on a Merkur blade. Still enjoying the sound and feel of DE shaving. Ordered some Caswell-Massey Jockey ASB yesterday. My wife likes the scent. Also have Trumpers sampler pack and blade sampler pack on the way. Cheers.

Hiya Kyle76,
Welcome to B&B!
It's been my experience that:
The neck takes some practice and patience to master. Once you get your sampler pack, what you might want to do, if you have more than one razor, is put a gentle razor blade in one razor that you use for your neck in one, and in the other, use a more aggressive one for your face.
Congratulations on just getting one weeper. That generally isn't the main concern, as they generally stop bleeding by the end of the shave.
I would pay more attention to:
Keeping a light touch
and
Using the proper angle
.
How will you know when you have the proper angle?
The blade will want to glide down the beard area. (Thanks to AFDavis11) view his post (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=43685&postcount=11)
Once you find the proper angle: Keep your wrists locked. Consistency is the key to a comfortable shave.
And by all means if you haven't seen Kyle's Sticky (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4018) , please do. There's lots of good information in there.
You might find it helpful not to run the water, so that you can hear the acoustics of the razor. A cutting sound is refined. A scraping sound is like a zipper moving along it's path. It's helps to be able to hear the difference in the beginning. And with the money you save, you can "donate" it towards your favorite AD, that's short for Addiction Disorder. Don't worry, hang around here long enough...you'll get one.
Work your way through the sampler pack, and find out which blade works best with your skin and razor. As I recall, the suggested order to try the blades are:
Merkur's
Derby's
Israeli Personnas
Swedish Gillette's
Feathers
Hope this helped you out.
As always, YMMV. (where applicable)
P.S. "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" was a GREAT song.

I'm definitely attuned to the sound of the shave. I only run the water when I'm rinsing the razor. Also looking forward to trying some new blades. I'm pleased with the relatively blood-free results of the Merkurs, but in general they don't get great reviews around here.

Interesting. My experience is that if I draw blood, it does not ever stop prior to ending my shave. I have to apply stypic, or I will end up going about my business with blood on my face. And even stypic only works for the very very very slightest, tiniest oozers.
So I work real hard not to draw any blood.

+1 I have noticed the same thing.

I can often get blood coming out that stops during the shave, or immediately after the cold water splash. Only rarely need I resort to the styptic.
Unlike cartridge razors, which often required me to break out the styptic, and some gauze. Another reason why I love DE razors and blades.

I'm quite the same, but I attribute it to the baby aspirin I take everyday as well as 2 Aleves. Both affect platelets and coagulation times.

I guess I'll have to buy a styptic pencil when I get the butterfly DE in. I've cut myself shaving a few times (not many), but I've been using cartridge razors with flexible heads. Usually if I cut myself, I find out I'm bleeding after the fact
