I'll start off this weeks "Score" Thread with the Beautiful Rooney from Don. I purchased it on Saturday morning and it was waiting for me at my Post Office Box this morning (Monday!). Kudos to Don (TAZ) for superb shipping and packaging! I had wanted a Rooney for some time now and I got a really nice one with a beautiful handle! I will try it out tomorrow morning and report back on what I'm expecting to be a sensational experience! Thanks again Don!
I also picked up on eBay a "project" Gillette NEW last night for under 10 bucks shipped. I will show the seller's pic as a "Before" shot and will clean and polish it up and show an "After" shot when I get finished with it. I consider the NEW a fine basic Gillette and this one should look much different after I'm finished with it!

Alexander...I was bored....needed a small restoration project and considered the NEW a great basic razor to attempt some general clean and polish to return it to it's Art Deco glory. I guess RAD is never really over, bringing to mind that...Resistance is Futile!!!

OK for my birthday my wife surprised me today with some goods from Crabtree & Evelyn. Ivory Super Larger Badger Brush by Edwin Jagger, C&E Sienna shave cream, Sienna after shave balm and Sienna hair and body wash. I had planned on ordering a Shavemac Silvertip for my birthday and it would be my first badger brush but I think this one will do just fine. I Just have to get use to the size compared to my Proraso/Omega boar brush. I posted pictures to show how much the brush bloomed after the first shave.

Mike,
I purchased a Gillette NEW a month or two ago at a little antique shop. It was dark and dirty, just nasty looking. I soaked it overnight in some Simple Green, scrubbed with a soft toothbrush dipped in Simple Green and then gave it a good polishing with some Maas. Man, it looks beautiful, the shiny brass and the copper compliment each other so well. It really looks classy, almost too good to use. Almost. It shaves as good as it looks.

I bought three razors. Two of them Gillette Techs, the third a Gillette blue tip from 1955.
One of the Techs is gold plated, mostly, from the 1940's. It has been heavily used, the gold plating on the head has worn off and the Gillette insignia is barely visible. I shaved with it this morning and it shaves beautifully as if for the first time. Some consider them a bit mild, but I am not complaining. The shave was smooth and nick free. The other is nickle plated from 1955 and looks hardly used at all.

Package of 5 BIC Metal Single Blade Razors from that notable Shaving Emporium, The Family Dollar Store. I had shaved with these a longggggggg time ago...perhaps the late 1980's and they are a great disposable razor. I doubt I will attempt a full shave with them as I will usually pack my travel kit with "full size" equipment. These will be used for pesky touch up work from time to time (under the nose, troublesome chin touch up, jawline etc). These were just too tempting at $1.79 for a package 5.

Nice find Mike! Those ARE great disposable razors. I wish I could find them locally to try again (it was eons ago when I first tried them), but I'll keep half-looking when I am out and about.
Taz - Nice, nice, nice! Those strops are beautiful! I have a knife steel from Keith at Hand American and there is always nothing but praise about his products and craftsmanship.

I like those razors too bad you can't find them anymore...I think they were probably the best disposable razor made...
Yesterday evening I found a package from Mama Bear waiting for me. Not having ordered from her in a while, I was perplexed. :confused1
I iopened the package, to find a tub of Enchanted Forest soap. I smelled it. :001_wub:
Okay, so why the unexpected soap? I went online and checked my last order with her ... no such soap included. Then I checked my previos order, and lo and behold, there it was! I had completely forgotten!! :001_unsur
Sure, I paid for it a while ago (when Mama Bear was out of stock, and now that fine lady we all keep so busy managed to whip up another batch) but it had totally slipped my mind ... so it's like getting a 'free' soap, in a way!!
cool.

Scored two razors for under 10.00. One's a Eversharp TTO w/ a plastic (bakelite?) handle, and the other is a Gillette. I could use some help IDing, but I'll start up a new thread for that. Photos forthcoming.
Edit: After looking around, I've found that the Gillette is a Tech, and the Eversharp looks like a Krona.

Tub of G.F.T. Shaving cream from the knoxcigar headquarters in the "Old City" Knoxville. The box smelled liked cigars..I think it actually seeped into the cream itself as it was a very Citrusy Smokey Spicy Blend...Very dense cream from Trumper...no pearly shine to the cream like some of the Taylor creams 've seen lately... Friendly guy behind the counter at knoxcigar (smoking a stogie, late 20 something fella) uses many of the English creams himself. Alas he admits to being a Mach3 user but still enjoys the creams, soaps, balms, etc.

First a "Mystery" package arrived from jfrancisco (Jeremy) in trade for a Vintage Wooden Soap Bowl I sent him. He outdid himself by sending a beautiful Waterman Fountain Pen, a Vintage Straight Razor, and a generous sample of C&E Nomad Shaving Cream. I had told him to surprise me rather than selecting items he had offered in trade. Truly a great gentleman for making such a lopsided trade.
Next, my $16.00 Gillette President "Below The Radar" ebay transaction arrived with it's shabby case. Another item that exceeded my expectations.
A visit to CVS Pharmacy ended with an old school favorite, Clubman Talc, to aid in the brutal hot weather here in the Midwest. My plan is using a sprinkle a day...

I purchased the razor from a member of SMF as a Belmont. I'm happy with it, but the SN (41110C) places it in August - December 1928 and I believe it is a gold plated Aristocrat.
The brush courtesy of Michael is a Kent BK8.

I love me some of that pink stuff! I have been using it for about two weeks, I am not sure what it does, or really what it smells like, the smell is gone milliseconds after application, but I know its pink and I love it.

I've been looking for a suitable shaving kit to use while travelling and after much searching for a "classic" style Dopp kit, I chanced upon this find at a Samsonite outlet store.

one tub C&E Sweet Almond Oil cream at TJ Maxx
three tubs AOS Lavender cream. Smells a bit like gin
I think I'll put the brakes on now.
Mike,
That has to be one of the greatest finds on Ebay for $16. Very nice razor.
All in all a great day of acquisitions!

Picked up a few Shave cremes from Whole Foods
Kiss My Face- Lime
Kiss My Face- Cool Mint
I find that these work real well when you add a little to a mix, I've currently been adding it to my Williamson Puck, in my wood bowl, whips into a real nice lather.
Happy Shaving:cool:
John
Taz,
The Aqua Velva is a nice AS I know were not to use alcohol based AS but I love the way it cools and tightens the skin after applying.
Got these yesterday starting to play around with the Old School Alcohol based Face Tonics used Pinaud for the first time yesterday and AV today only 2 days but I really think I like what they do... Doc I must say I think you are right.:thumbup1:

Received some really nice, generous samples from Zeni of:
Esoterica's - Penzance, And so to Bed, Dunbar
GL Pease - Caravan, Westminster
Previously I had only tried Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe and Frog Morton on the Town (and a tobacco-store blended vanialla/cherry aromatic that my cat destroyed).
Of the samples, so far I have tried "And so to Bed" and Caravan (will probably try Penzance tonight). My favorite so far would be Caravan, followed probably by FMOTT, then ASTB, then EMP (which, I think, does build nicely as the bowl is smoked down, becoming, IMHO, more complex as you go).
I was really surprised by these tobaccos as I had thought (before taking up the pipe a few weeks ago) that all pipe tobacco was aromatic. The strength of some of these is amazing! I can still taste the caravan this morning...and the way the taste/strength of the bowl changes as you smoke it down is nothing short of amazing. I really can't say enough about how relaxed I feel by the end of the bowl...almost like sleeping while awake (if that makes any sense).
Anyway...sorry about the long post.
Thanks again, Zeni!

Nah, alcohol is fine. I love alcohol-based splashes.

at least on the weekend anyway. Now I will have to wait until tomorrow to shave with my new Moss Scuttle. Thanks to my kids and SWMBO for the belated Father's Day Gifts. Also, thanks to Sara for the beautiful craftsmanship she puts into the scuttle. It truly is a work of art.

Polar Ice is the only one that IS mentholated out of the 5 I got today.
I must know, how is the lime?!
Out of the bottle (I haven't put any on) it smells the strongest of the 5, and a very strong lime scent.

In today's mail a Sanguine "shavette" str8, the kind that takes half a DE blade. Nervously already had my first shave with it and several nicks and one not-too-bad slice later, I managed an acceptable shave with massive razor burn. But, I'll keep practicing when I have time. For me, it's definitely DE land but I just had to try a str8.

Thanks John, I was nervous when I first ordered these, but now that I have them and have used them I'm very happy that I went ahead and went through with the purchases. Both brushes are extremely nice to use.

The postman delivered some goodies today:
From Mama Bear-
Spicey Lime cologne
Green Irish Tweed cologne
Lime shave stick
Bluebonnets and Wildflowers soap
Southern Gardens soap
Waiting on the Pinaud motherlode(minus lilac vegetal and special reserve but with the shampoo) from drugstore.com and some Feathers from Pauldog to make this past week's purchases complete.
On different note, yesterday I was speaking with a coworker about shaving and, long story short, I am presenting him with a Proraso line-up of Pre/Post, soap and ASB. (I knew stocking up on the Target clearance was the thing to to.) Now I all have to do is show him the light of the DE instead of the Mach 3.
