Hey b&b,

This is my first post and I have a question regarding a razor I found at an antique shop today for $15(I do not know if it was a good deal or not). I have done some searching and have not been able to find out anything about it. He face has an eagle on it, like that on an old quarter with "e Pluribus unum" on a banner underneath it. The tang is pretty rusted(hoping to buff it out without damaging the manufacturer stamp. The scales are bone and the pins appear to be brass. The box it came in(what was left of it) says "extra hollow ground, fully warranted". I am posting from my iPod, and pictures will be coming shortly. Any and all help in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Utopian

Frederick Reynolds made excellent razors. They simply require a bit more patience in honing.

Welcome to B&B!

Fred Reynolds are good razors yes. I would say that if you want to try, have it cleaned up and honed!

Here are some pictures of the face, tang, and box which came with it. I would like to know what year this is, and if I got a good deal at $15. Thanks,

I'd pay $15 for that razor. My FR is amongst my favorite shavers. Looks to me like the tang will cleanup with some light sanding. But I don't think the scales are bone - more likely hard rubber or bakelite.

Thank you all for the information, and the confirming my first instinct of 'buy this' when I first saw it. I can't wait to clean this and hone to start shaving!. I am tempted to go back to where I bought this, they have some old Bokers, Hugo Koller, and others which I did not recognize.

This will be my first time trying to restore a SR. It has turned into an addiction. Thank you all B&B you are a wealth of info and a great community. I will post pics of my finished restore and any new acquisitions.
