I'm a little confused on what the slant razor is. I've seen pictures of it and I hear that it is an aggressive DE, one to be used after a milder DE is mastered.

However, why would one choose a slant as opposed to an adjustable or just a more aggressive DE that enabled the blade to be exposed more?

I hear you I am trying to explain to someone what the torquing looks like cause he doesn't get it conceptually. It basically slices the hair instead of "chopping" the hair is how it is described.

I am not sure I would say it is aggressive it just shaves different. It takes a slightly different blade angle when using it. The thing I like about the slant is since the blade sits in it basically at a slant it cuts closer. I can can get a DFS in two passes with a slant where I need 3 with a regular DE. It also seems to take less touch up for a BBS shave.

Not sure I answered your question but I tried.:thumbup1:

Its not all that aggressive, it just takes a different approach to cutting hairs than your typical straight bar DE razor. Its a very effective design and I loved shaving with mine when I was still using DE's.

I personally find my slant to be way more comfortable than my hd

I would be lying if I said I have mastered a regular DE, but I'm two shaves into using a Merkur 37c slant after 14 shaves using a regular DE(Lord 1822) and it was a smooth change for me.
The 37c sure shaves a lot closer and can hurt you if you don't pay attention, but I'm careful and it's no problem at all. But as always, YMMW....
My skin seems to not be very sensitive, I had some slight irritation after a 4-pass + plenty touch-up, but that went away with the aftershave...

Shave with the slant a few more times then go back to your regular DE, you'll find shaving much more easy. It was that way for me anyway.

I will John. That said, I didn't really change how I shave using the slant.
But I have a Slim and a Mergress coming as well, so I'll rotate them quite a bit in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how I feel about all of them over some time.:001_smile
