View Full Version : Osage Rub first impressions

My bottle of Osage Rub arrived this afternoon, and I immediately splashed it on.

Indeed, it seems mighty cold, but not much more so than the Alcolado Relampago I bought at Walgreens. It lasted maybe 15 minutes.

The scent is lingering an hour later, and smells sorta powdery. I don't like it too much.

I can't speak to its aftershave qualities, since I didn't use it immediately after shaving.

Not incredibly blown away from this first impression.

Agreed with your observations, it's not much of an aftershave, more of a cool down splash. At least that's all I use it for!

I don't think it was ever intended to be an after shave, though I could be wrong. I have a big bottle and when it's done I won't be replacing it because my eyes water from the fumes for a few minutes after application. I think I'll stick with AV and Skin Bracer.

It's OK as aftershave, but I'd apply something over it for scent (like the rose cologne I used with it this weekend, just before heading to the driving range).

Try rubbing it in your wet hair after a shower, or body-splashing it when you're heated up (or plan to be). This is where it really shines as a hot-weather antidote.

Cut it with some water and use it as a aftershowe brace it will cool you off.

Wow, I feel like I was slapped on my left cheek with an Alaskan icicle, and on my right with four menthol crystals. The feeling is invigorating when splashed directly on the cheeks after washing your face. The menthol punch isn't overpowering, but indeed very pronounced.

The smell is like Halls cough drops, or Vicks Vapor Rub. Translation: it smells like medicine, or something that your grandparents might use. It wears off after about 15 or 20 minutes, thereby transforming into a barbershop type of scent.

Once the smell "lapses"--notice how I put that in quotes--the skin is left feeling tight, toned, and smoothed. I agree with the earlier statement of following it up with a better smelling fragrance.

On a side note, I think I got a small buzz after putting the bottle up to my nose for a quick smell test.

Splashed on some today before facing central Arkansas mugginess today - I like it for that, it's cold, smells like Listerine.

I don't use it often, and enjoy rediscovering it every few months. :001_smile

I couldn't get over the mouthwash smell and unloaded mine. I remember it being quite cooling, but not miles beyond Proraso or Skin Bracer.

Speaking of the Proraso (splash?), how does the smell compare? I've heard that the Proraso splash smells like medicine. What about the Pre/Post?

I used it on some sunburn. Worked good there. I put aloe on top of it and the cooling lasted for a good hour.

I finally got around to trying this. I'm a big menthol fan and this is the first product that made my eyes water. You can feel the cold up into your sinuses. Good stuff.

I tried a sample after a shave and it froze my face and hands. I'm not a menthol fan but my skin reacted really well to it. Hmm, I might have to get some and mix it with a bit of Thayers.
