View Full Version : A New Kind of Hall of Fame Forum

I've been thinking about all the great threads that have been written over the last couple years. There are too many to all be stickied and then they get buried in the forum and are lost to new members. So what if we had a "Hall of Fame/All Star" Forum that included these great threads of all shaving topics. It would be a great resource to new members to find all these all-star threads in one place.

Any thoughts?

Upon further thought, another way this could be done if someone placed links to all these threads in a single post and then that post was stickied in the General or Newbie forum. Though it may be easier to add the new outstanding threads, I'm sure Kyle, for example will have more to add in the future, into a forum rather than a single posts.

Great idea. I am a moderator of a dieting board. Again and again the same questions crop up, and it's too easy just to post a link to a suitable thread. We list them in a FAQ page:

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=79

A newbie page would be especially useful, I'm sure most come to this forum with the same questions, and it can be a bit daunting finding your way round the mass of information on this board. The newbie page should reference just enough to get someone going.

Edit:

Those nice big tabs at the top may be the way to do it - one tab "Newbies Corner" another "Collected Best Posts"

I still like the idea that newbies can ask any question they come across, I think we've all seen boards where a newbie asks a newbie question and the more senior members bite their heads off, I certainly don't want B&B to turn into anything like that (Brian, not that is the way your board is). I also feel that new shavers learn far better off specific responses crafted to their individual quesitons.

But I also feel that many of our senior members and newer members have put together some excellent and thorough posts which give outstanding advise and they get lost in the vast amount of threads due to the board's popularity. I still want newbies to be able to ask anything they wish, but also have these great posts get recognition they deserve well into the future.

Tim - I think that is a good idea with little to no cost. Those kind of ideas are hard to come by.

What would be the criteria for a post being added to the "great post" area?

Great idea. Maybe have the 'hall of fame' divided up internally the same way B&B is, so if someone wants to look for all-star threads on, say, colognes, he can just browse through those ones.

I had something like that going in the SHOPPING thread for listing locales and stores that members posted in threads, but in an uncoordinated moment of insight it was decided (NOTE PASSIVE VOICE) that you could not modify a message after so many days..:crying: . Well, there are positives and negatives to all these things. I am sure someone will say, "Use the WIKI." :closedeye

I'm willing to consolidate your efforts on the wiki, but editing the Main Page to add a "Regional Shopping Guide" is out of my realm of authorization it seems. Any help with this?
