No, it's not made from Frogs. I've seen many a thread on which firearm to buy, but not many on how to maintain those we buy. So, Frog Lube. Anyone else tried it?

This green goop is absolutely amazing. Real deal, created by a SEAL with a background in chemistry, for keeping those finicky M4's workin in the dust "over there". I applied it to my Remington, and its a whole new weapon. Cycle's like a dream. Keeps dirt from causing friction, keeps fouling particles from fowling around in your gun. I've used Rem-Oil, Hoppes, the rest. They work, as they're supposed to, but not as well as this. If you shoot a lot, or your gun gets muddy, really, give this stuff a try, I cannot overstate how happy I am with this stuff.

And it's Made in the USA.

Their claims are pretty bold. Essentially, the say you won't need any other cleaning oils and that putting this stuff in your bore will increase muzzle velocity. They don't seem to sell it online and the closest listed retailer is two hours south of me.

Agreed that the claims there are pretty bold. I might pick some up if I ever see it locally, but I doubt I'll be seeking it out.

As for me I generally use Breakfree CLP for most purposes on my guns. If I've been shooting in the heat and have sweated on my guns I always try to run a rem oil wipe over them before re-casing. The rem-oil wipes come in convenient little envelopes like wet naps that I just toss in my shooting bag. I have also used Hoppes Elite cleaning solution. It performs as well as the #7 and is odorless, but I usually just go for convenience with the CLP. On my shotgun's hinge and chokes I use high pressure/high temp auto grease for lubricant.

I also occasionally use some sort of blue liquid in a small jar for cleaning my shotgun chokes. I get a lot of plastic buildup on them and this stuff, whatever it is, melts it right off. I'm always real careful with it because it smells awful and after seeing what it does to plastic I keep it the hell away from my skin and my gun stock. I used to use acetone but this stuff is so much more effective.

How often do you guys clean your guns? I'd love to say I'm one of those who cleans every time, but I'm not. My shotgun, aside from the aforementioned rem-oil wipedowns, gets cleaned a couple times a year. My pistol gets cleaned every second or third trip to the range. After other trips I usually just wipe down the outside and occasionally re-lube the rails and barrel lug.

I bought mine in a kit from botach.com, and its on Amazon . I agree, their claims are pretty bold. However, they appear to be true, so far at least.

I am a died-in-the-wool FP-10 user and got a gallon of it a few years ago (sounds nuts, but I have a lot of guns). When it ran out I was going to get Weapon Shield, the follow on product to FP-10.

I have not tried Frog lube, but I have been following the gun boards for years, and I have NEVER seen rave reviews for a new product like Frog Lube ... ever. And I don't care what forum you are on, a 1911 board, milsurp board, AR board, S&W board.

It does sound like hype, but with this kind of hype, I have to admit to being more than a little curious and willing to give it a go.

Cool. I wasn't suggesting that the claims were false, only that I have a healthy degree of skepticism for now. The gun world is full of "miracle" products that can't back up all their hype and the common gun mags can't be trusted at all. If you pick some up I'd be very interested in a review. I'd especially appreciate pics as I'm unclear as to the thickness/viscosity of the product.

I knew exactly where you are coming from. I am skeptical, too. But in decades, I have never seen a product get so much positive attention so broadly and so quickly. I am kinda interested to try it.

But I am also skeptical, and when someone plunks down good money for a premium product, they tend to be favorably disposed to the product to rationalize their decision. Unless the product actually stinks, more often than not folks will give the nod to the new, new thing.

Looks interesting. I'll be keeping an eye open for reports.

I'll probably stick w/ Slide Glide for lubricating high wear areas but the "cleaning and protecting" aspects have potential.

Currently I use BreakFree CLP and really don't need more products.

Not many places carry it(frog lube) here in MI and I see it's on Amazon.com for $26 +shipping for a pair of 4oz. containers.

Hmmm, gun care products or more shave soap?

Oil for the slow places, grease for the fast places.
I use a lithium grease I picked up from TSC to lubricate my slide. Seems to work just fine. Some of these products are just solutions in search of a problem.

...and that putting this stuff in your bore will increase muzzle velocity.
I suppose it could increase muzzle velocity, but I'd wager only by increasing pressure. I'll pass on that.

Weapon shield is a great product and its non toxic. The owner is a real pleasure guy to deal with and sent me a free 4 ounce sample a long time ago. Does wonders for cleaning and lubrication and has that cinnamon scent to it.

For those of you that may not know, the current owner/founder of weaponshield was the same guy that developed FP-10....and was ousted in a hostile takeover of the company. Today's FP-10 products arent as good as the original....namely in the cold it would gel up and render a gun useless. Weaponshield works just as good if not better than the original FP-10 and does not have a problem with cold weather.

Slide glide is a good product also, but I am leery of using it in the cold winters.

My 1911 is black t'd by walter birdsong (before he passed away).....when talking to him he told me after initial break in lubrication was not needed due to the teflon that would bond to the metal when it was applied. I have plenty of holster wear on the edges of my 1911 and I do nothing in terms of rust preventative on those areas and it has been fine. I run the slide/frame dry as he instructed and I have yet to have a failure with this gun.....before anyone jumps and says its a loose 1911, sorry its a springfield thats been customized by John Harrison and the slide to frame fit was tightened up considerably while there.
