View Full Version : ItalianBarber.com: May Update

This update is filled with a lot of information so I will try to keep things short, and to-the-point.

1) We confirmed that Floid Blue and Floid Sandolor Gel have been discontinued. We are lucky because we had an order in-transit prior to this news and on Tuesday evening we added more stock to the website for sale. We are working hard to procure the last stocks in Italy so these wonderful products are available to our customers for at least a little while longer.

2) The new 100% Natural RazoRock products were well received by our customers and went out-of-stock pretty quickly. I thought we had order enough but these things can be tough to predict. I'm happy to report that both products are back in-stock. Stock levels on the Aftershave wax are low but we should be getting more next week.

3) We had a huge load come from Italy on Tuesday. We are working feverishly to unload and inventory all the products. You will slowly start to see new products hit the website in the next day or two; products of note (off the top of my head)... Proraso's Sul Filo line (lowest prices in North America!), Proraso 400ml Aftershave bottle, Proraso sensitive skin (white label) products, Proraso Styptic gel, i Coloniali products, two new Marvis toothpaste flavors, Scuderia and Ferre Aftershave splashes, Malizia EdT, Tabac soap in ceramic jar, Croma and Merkur DE blades, 1 Kilo size of Borotalco, the 500ML Pino Silvestre body wash and lots of others. Be sure to check the “NEW PRODUCTS” page often.

http://www.italianbarber.com/products_new.php

4) We now carry the Atomizers for the large glass bottles in BLUE, ORANGE and GREEN; many of you guys have been asking for these for your FLOID, PRORASO and VITOS bottles.

5) We are having a 2-week super sale on Proraso White; $5.99 for the 150ml cup shaving cream; $7.99 for the Pre-Post Cream. I have never seen prices for these products so low in North America. These will be available at these prices until June 1 or until supplies last.

6) Within the next 10 business days, you will see Taylor of Old Bond Street products added to the store.

7) We having also brought more women's products, such as the super popular Cera di Cupra line. We are having a hard time keeping Cera di Cupra in stock. Most guys are thinking... “How does this benefit me?” I will tell you how! Tell me what you wife or significant other says when a big box shows up at the door, but this time there are treats FOR HER as well (think big bonus points)! Also, it makes it easier to get to the $60 FREE SHIPPING threshold.

As always, Thank you all for your support and encouragement,

Joseph

Wow, great work! My Floid Blue arrived the Friday before the "big news" and I just can't justify ordering another one. Can I? Anyway, I need to have over and get some of this mythical aftershave wax everyone is raving about.

I picked up a bottle of the malizia vetiver aftershave (with alcohol) while I was in tanzania...this italian gem is a really refreshing vetiver, and still in a real glass bottle...doesn't last long, but it is not a fake chemical scent,it's the real thing and a great value..

Hello Razo - any plans to carry the Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn Aftershave lotion?

Had a sample in my last order and just wondered if you were considering adding it.

The Vitos Red Soap is working out very well, btw.

Thanks.

I have proraso green shave soap, so I bought the Proraso Aftershave balm (and the splash) with my last Italian Barber order, since it was on sale. That stuff is great. A nice proraso, eucalyptus (?) type smell. The smell is not too strong and goes away (unfortunately) in a couple hours. Also, it is not too heavy and seems to help the skin recover as well as the Nivea sensitive AS Balm or Mama Bear's Summer AS does for me. The consistency I think is similar in "heaviness" to the Nivea. You know it is there but skin doesn't feel oily or heavy after use.

EDIT: also, the Proraso AS Balm has a nice cooling, tingly effect for the first few minutes after application.

Hi Leonard,

Yes. Most likely in the next Jagger order; it's a very nice product indeed.

Great to hear the VITOS is working out well:thumbup1:

Well, the VITOS is nice enough that it is the first soap to be used 5 times in a row, since I started this shave soap madness. Good stuff.

Also, noticed you added a large size of the proraso AS splash. Does proraso do a large size of the proraso AS Balm? Been using that quite a lot since I ordered it from you.

Hi Leonard,

Unfortunately, the only Proraso products that come in 'barbershop sizes' are the Proraso Shaving Cream, the Pre-Post, and the Splash.

I imagine the Balm would do really well in a 400ml as well.

Hey Joe!

I need a nice aftershave! I like Floid Blue but can't afford that I'm afraid.
Can you recommend me a good one from the Vitos line perhaps?

I'm fond of AS like:
Floid Blue
4711
Speick
A little Clubman Citrus Musk
A mild Bay Rum now and then
Citrusy stuff
Cooling and bracing stuff
Fresh and clean stuff
Nothing flowery!
Nothing foresty!

Hopefully that is enough for a good recommendation or two, or three...

Thanks Joe!

I would definitely recommend the VITOS dopo barba (Amber) in the 400ml bottle. Sweet, powdery, hint of citrus heaven! I love it.

I just wanted to say I that recieved my order of the aftershave wax and XXX cream (at the office so SWMBO doesn't realize I am buying more stuff), and while I haven't tried the performance yet, I was blown away by the scents alone. I keep opening the wax and sniffing it. I'm sure that isn't the behaviour of a normal healthy person.

Thanks for bringing us all these fantastic products. If the new artisan soaps smell half as good and work half as well as the other RazoRock products I have tried, I think I may just give up on other product lines.

Moses,

Let me explain...

I shave my head every few days and I'm always looking for a better solution for head shaving; the head blade doesn't cut it for me, these multi-blades just clog up way too easily. I tend to order anything and everything for research purposes and when I saw Mantic saying how good the Gillette Guard was, I ordered one from India to try.

I was shocked at how good it was when I used it. I use a cartridge razor once or twice a month when I'm in a big rush. I jump out of the shower, rub some RR shave gel on my face and do a 1 pass, out the door in 45 second shave. The results were excellent; not better than my Feather AS-D1 but very impressive for a cartridge and under a minute.

Then I shaved my head with one... the results were even better... these suckers don't clog, the head pivots really easily and they are really easy to hold. I bought a bunch for myself for quick shaves and head-shaves.

I figured it was only right to sell these to my customers, many of whom are now friends... especially if they are head-shavers. So I put together a head shaving kit where you basically get the razor and a few blades for free when buying the RazoRock Gel and A/S Wax.

This is the best cartridge Gillette has ever made, IMO. It had to be because they were trying to convert DE shavers in India and everyone here knows how amazing DE shaving is. Does this razor shave better than a quality DE in a skilled hand? Absolutely not, but it shaves really well and is awesome for the head!

Joe:

You as much as admitted that the tubs for RazorRock leave something to be desired and have told us that better (screw-type) tubs are in the works.

I have to store some soaps in So. Arizona in a house that I keep at about 88 degrees for months on end. As a result, I've explored some very good ways to preserve soft-soaps. I also have a good supply of ugly but very functional screw-lid containers.

Have you ever considered selling RazorRock shave-soap in the 1ML bulk-bricks like Cella and Vitos?

Thanks.

Hi Peter,

Our partner which produces the RazoRock shaving cream soaps in Italy does not offer them them 1000ml bricks.

Honestly, most people don't like the 1000ml/1kg bricks; I can't can't tell you have many requests I got to cut Cella and P.160 and Vitos before I finally caved.

The new RazoRock Artisan line will come in screw top jars. I'm really excited to get these out; you guys will soon see why.

Hi Joe,

I'll bet you're getting a loy of emails about this today, but what happened to the Acca Kappa tubs being available on May 24? The availablity date isn't even listed anymore; simply the dreaded "OUT OF STOCK" message now.

Also, what's all this talk about an artisan RazoRock line? I've tried to track down info on the IB website and here at B&B, but I couldn't find anything. For example, how did gtoface know about a lime product? Can someone point me to a thread, post, page, etc. where I can read up on this. At one point I thought the artisan line you guys were referring to was the recently introduced RazoRock products like XXX, cacao and fresco shave creams, the 100% natural handmade AS wax and shave gel.

Hi Joe,

I'll bet you're getting a loy of emails about this today, but what happened to the Acca Kappa tubs being available on May 24? The availablity date isn't even listed anymore; simply the dreaded "OUT OF STOCK" message now.

Good evening,

Here is the link for the new Artisan soaps....

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=3067616&postcount=135

They are currently in production. There will be 7 or 8 to start with a surprise or 3 (as usual):001_smile. Just in the process of designing labels and thinking up some name:001_smile These soaps should be very very interesting... stay tuned

Regarding Acca Kappa, the distributor is still back-ordered; unfortunately, I have no control over the situation there. Hopefully, I get a call soon from them or I'm going to have a lot of angry customers.

Does anyone know why Floid Blue and Sandalor Gel were discontinued?

My apologies if this was covered/answered in another thread.

I couldn't tell you the reason for sure but I have the new catalogue and I think they decided to streamline the entire Floid line... some new products added but Blue Floid and Sandolor are nowhere to be found in the new material.

Rest assured, we are scouring Italy for every last bottle; if they are out there, we are tracking them down and buying them!

BTW...for those of you who haven't tried the Vitos Extra Super w/ Coconut Oil.

In regard to performance, it is up there with P160, Cella, Valobra. I find them all to be very similar.

In regard to scent, the coconut is much more pronounced out of the container...once you start loading your brush and the lid is off for a few seconds, the coconut starts coming through. It's enough that it isn't a one-note coconut scent, and it is a change of pace from the sweet almond scent of the rest of them.

Very nice product...aftershaves are next...though I have to wait a bit...

Hey Joe:

On your recommendation, I tried Saponeria Artigiana Almond Bar as a bath soap. It appears to be sold by Omega. I chose the Almond scent just to compare it to Cella's scent.

First... the almond scent is there but it's far, far less than Cella. I also noticed that it has no tallow.

Surprisingly, it lathered very well in the shower (good recommendation, Joe). In fact, it lathered so well that I wondered how it might lather with a brush.

With all the great shaving soaps that you sell... this is just a matter of curiosity for me. I'm just wondering if you've ever tried it as a shaving soap or milled-out a bar for a shaving tub.

Since I'm currently using a blade that was never intended for shaving (Personna Labs), I wonder if a soap that was never intended for shaving might be good as well.

Just a thought....

Hi Peter,

Saponeria Artigiana soaps are all vegetable based. They are wonderful soaps and these are the ones I personally use for showering. I love the variety of scents.

I actually have tried it for shaving; when I was doing a shower shave. I hit the soap with an Omega boar brush and it indeed made some lather. The lather was slick but not very cushion-y. I would say it works for a shower (where the environment is super humid and ideal for shaving) but I definitely wouldn't use it for sink-shaving.

Certain brands, like Trumpers and TOBS, have strict guidelines to being a stockist and they frown distributing 'homemade' samples.

My comments on the Gillette Guard (Indian market) razor...

I use it a few times a week to save my head and honestly... it's the best cartridge razor I've ever used.

I liked it so much that I ordered a ton from an Indian distributor and started selling them in my store.

It is literally clog-proof and rinsing the blade is very infrequent. It acts very close to a DE accept it sets the blade angle for you. I've also used it for quick shower-shaves (beard) and it worked very well.

It won't unseat my DE razors for beard-shaving but it's very good.

Like the article said, it's probably better suited to those using a DE razor than the masses that use the 3-5 blades carts.

I've noticed before this product being described as containing coconut oil; however, I can't seem to find it in the ingedient list, either on the label of my 125 ml tub or on the IB website. Does it go by any other name than "cocos nucifera oil" or obviously just plain "coconut oil"?

Perhaps the product's coconut smell comes from fragrance oil, as I've read many times that pure coconut oil is almost odourless. But parfum(e) or fragrance are not in the ingredient list, either.

Another issue with the listed ingredients for Vitos Red w/ coconut: it uses hydrogenated tallow instead of saponified tallow. I was under the impression that hydrogented oils/fats were for the food industry, while saponified oils/fats were used in the cosmetics/soap industry. Any soapheads out there that can shed some light on this?

I have problems trying to bowl lather it. I find that Marco's(?) face lathering suggestion for Italian soft soaps works better for me. Do you have any tips or tricks for making it work in the bowl, other than starting with little water and very slowly adding more until it takes off?

gtoface

i soak the brush. and just slightly shake it off one time. then go right to the tub and whip it up for 40 seconds or so, take the extra cream forming and put it in the bowl, then go back to the tub of cream, do it more for about 40 seconds. and go to the bowl by then you will have to add just a few drops. lather up in the bowl and let sit for a few mins with out touching it. and then whip up more.. huge pile of lather. made me happy to figure it all out.

What VITOS did was use the same box for the Extra Super and the Extra Super 'olio di cocco'; they added a blue sticker on the side of the box to show the difference. Coconut oil is added to the recipe on the 'olio di cocco' version. I couldn't modify the ingredients on the 125ml label because I didn't know where to put it (proportion). What I did was put "coconut" in brackets.

True cold pressed virgin coconut oil indeed has a smell; it is a wonderful smell! Smells exactly like fresh coconut. The highly processed stuff has a funky burnt smell. My artisan soap maker in Canada let me sample the good stuff which they use in the RazoRock shave gel. I tasted it and it was amazing.

The problem is, high quality ingredients, especially the organic ones, have a high quality price tag.

BTW, I only face lather VITOS using the Italian Master Barber method (aka Marco's method).

I bowl lather VITOS Super in this bowl w/o a problem, now that i have the hang of it. As with other soaps, I find the more soap I use, the easier the lather is to build.

Of course... wax is now sold out. I think I jinxed myself by mentioning it (and thereby putting in the consciousness of other IB shoppers). Not surprising, though, given the rave reviews it's been getting. Joe, can you give a rough estimate for when the wax is expected back in stock? I'm trying to coordinate my purchases so that everything I want is in stock at the same time. Wishful thinking, I know. Also regarding the AS wax: do you think it can be used as a moisturizer? I ask because I use so little AS at a time, and I already have a healthy stockpile of other aftershave products, that it'll be years before I even put a dent in a tin of it. I have the same problem with shave soaps and creams, so I'm following your lead and using them as body soaps in the shower.
