If you had to choose between a Best or a Super (2-band) what would you buy?
I want a good backbone.

I can only speak for Best, and it's got plenty. It's a wall of badger. Stacks up very well to good boar IMO, but a different feel nonetheless.
I think the Super is just softer (but I may stand corrected) - they're both stuffed with a whole Xianguan Province full of badgers.

I think most give the nod to the Best but I have the 3 band Super and love it.

Two band super is my second favorite hair. Stiff and scrubby. I love it!

I had both and my three-band had more backbone and was a denser knot for sure. I'm beginning to think I have a lemon CH2 in best though because mine is relatively floppy.
I forgot to mention I also have it in two-band and if you want backbone without a doubt two-band is the way to go if you can track one down.

Justin - a floppy Chubby? What gives? Does it have an abnormally long loft or is it not dense? I've owned four Chubby's in my time and floppy is not how I would describe any of them...
Also, in regards to the OP - I think it comes down to face feel. The best or two band super should both have enough backbone for you, but the best will have a larger face feel due its bigger bloom, and will have slightly softer tips.

Believe my I know Andrew, it sounds bizarre  I should probably contact the vendor or Simpson directly. It has a 48 mm loft so it can't be that.

There is such a variability in the hair that Progress-Vulfix calls Simpson Best. I wouldn't purchase another one without some help from a vendor or pictures of the brush so I'd know what I'm getting. I have a CH2 in Best that looks like more of a 2-band, and it is a very dense and scrubby brush. I was able to handle a 3-band Super CH2 at a shop this week, and man were the tips softer. I don't think it has nearly the backbone of my Best, though. Hard to tell until you wet the brush and load it. And now I'm thinking of buying one to compare.
Mind you, this is nitpicking. I think the OP would be extremely happy with any of the CH2 line, especially if this is a first high end brush.
