I used a new "Corked" feather in the Slant the other day and it was a terrible shave. I don't necessarily blame the blade, maybe it was my prep or lather or something, so I'll try it again.

No shave for me this morning.:crying: Yesterday's shave was so good that I absolutely could not shave. May be a good thing though, my Progress may arrive today!!!:biggrin:

No, this really is the SOTD picture. I had been thinking how different razors worked better on some parts of my face, so I really did use ALL this for my shave today. Pretty much in order from left to right (minus the hot towel). Proraso pre-shave scrub. Used the Dovo Shavette with a Fromm blade for the sides to just below jawline. Finished pass 1 WTG with the Slant. The Futur on 2 was used for XTG (minus the cheeks) on pass 2, and the Vision (minimal setting) for XTG/ATG on pass 3. Slant for touch-up. The lather is HoneyBee Sue's Dragon's Blood, using a BK12 and the super-sized Wal-Mart scuttle. Alum block, Thayer's, Proraso ASB (Ooops, out of order!), and finished with the Ogalllala Bay Rum. Whew! Feather blades in the three DEs.

Really, not a lot more trouble than a one-razor shave; little longer on cleanup. But it was really nice...

But of course, if it delivers for you, you're doing something right, and good luck to you. – I just don't think that corking should become a canonised element of the shaving routine. It's a tweak, that's all.

I was browsing SMF earlier this morning where a chap wanted a suggestion for a change to his 18 month daily use of Taylors Avocado SC. 18 months is superlative fidelity...makes my 3 seperate two day jags with Harris Almond sound like nothing.....

Picked up the CADE shaving soap refill (I didn't feel the need for the 15 dollar bowl) and I must say this stuff is terrific! I have read ho-hum reviews of the shaving cream, but the shaving soap is GREAT (as per the reviews of the soap). I think the addition of cold cream is an interesting one...I did feel that my face felt softer than usual (perhaps as soft as a little old lady?). I also like the addition of macadamian nut oil....not sure what it does, but it sure sounds fancy.

I should also add that the speick aftershave is even BETTER than I had hoped it would be. great stuff!

Is the CADE scent supposed to be a sandalwood? Not sure...

I'm loving the 38C and have not rotated to any of my other razors since I got this three weeks ago. Prior to that I would rotate once a week through my various GIllettes.

First time using Aqua Velva - a great bargain at less than four bucks. I'll still use the fancy English stuff but am very pleased with this classic, especially the cooling effect in the hot humid Boston weather today. Very nice!

Tried an IP in the 30s TTO Aristocrat this morning, and this seemed to work a little better than the Feather in my poor unloved razor. The Aristocrat shaves differently than any other razor I have, and I'm not comfortable enough with it to get in a hurry. I took my time and got a nice shave!

Great Shave today BBS in 4 pass with no touch ups. I corked my Feather blade this week. I can't say that it has done anything noticeable but by day 3 of using a Feather I usually toss it but today the blade was just as smooth as the first shave. I will so how many more days I can get out of the feather.

Thanks! It was everything I'd hoped-for: bristly/itchy-scratchy enough to exfoliate nicely, created-and-held lather like nobody's business, and gave me the control I'd wanted in applying the lather (I felt like an artist, instead of a housepainter).

It was well worth the cost, the procedure, and the waiting. I'm quite pleased with the workmanship, and especially with the fact that Herr Blos and Shavemac managed to turn my "fantasy" into fact.

I unreservedly recommend Shavemac to any- and everyone who is considering having a beloved shaving brush rebristled.

This was my first brushless shave since joining B&B, and it was not a good one. I did rush things a bit, but I didn't get very good lather from the Tom's and the Feather gave out about halfway through the shave. First time in over a month that I had to use a styptic pen.

Did not shave yesterday to make this worth its wild. Found this place in Columbus, OH and let me tell you what an experience. The Gentleman John Bowman has been Shaving for more then 30 years and then took his old school experience and got trained by Truefitt & Hill Master Shavers. That is his description and it does not do it justice. all the little details like the towels sprayed with lavender EO, The mud has Sandalwood oil. Not sure what I did today different but today was the best shave I've had since I started wet shaving.:smile: Not sure if it was corking of the Feather but I've never had this smooth of a shave with a feather pushing it to day 4. Thanks Ron, that's a real purty razor. The site says it's plated solid brass!!! That thing must be almost as heavy as (or heavier than) the 38C!!! Churchills in Birmingham keeps a nice stock of EJ brushes. I may have to see how much and if they'll order one of those for me.

Not quite BBS, but I'm relearning how to use a str8. My grandfather taught me at age 13 (41 years ago). I read the reviews of this razor shortly after my purchase and was worried as to construction and fit. My examplar seems very well fit. I now have 1 or 2 small corrosion spots from my improper care, but this thing is SHARP and, to my admittedly non expert eyes, well put together. I am considering buying another.

BTW: The Tabula Rasa Gives a great shave. Very slick and cushiony. Gives great protection from my slightly shaky strokes. :shaving:

I WILL be purchasing a tub of the T&H 1805. The scent is unlike any other I have tried and I found it to be very refreshing. The Crystal Blade performed as well as my Derby usually does, I liked it very much as well. I put some of the 1805 directly inside the damp brush but also whipped some up in a vintage Old Spice Mug...there was enough cream for 10 passes but I did 4.

Inspired by Guenron (Ron)'s combination from the other day...

The scent combo was similar to what ron described (though his was a combo of rose and orange). The lime "livened up" the rose while the rose mellowed out the lime. My only issue was that perhaps the HBS lime was a little too subtle...perhaps something with a sharper scent would be better. Still, it was a nice combo. The blended scent reminded me of something else...like strawberries or plums perhaps? Not sure...

No shave yet today...haven't decided what to use yet.
