Someone please help me. I want to kill the sparrows, all of them. It is now mid-Spring, and I think it is breeding season. The little buggers start chirping about 10 minutes before daybreak (around 5:45 a.m.) and they keep it up for a couple of hours. I am a person who loves and respects nature. I grew up fishing, scuba diving and spearfishing, and I appreciate and enjoy nature very much. However, they are driving me nuts, and I want to kill them! Help me, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:18:

So you've been to my house have you? My bird alarm has been going off at 0400 on the dot for the last week. I swear the little sob is on my window sill screaming into the house. :mad3:

Start feeding the neighborhood cats, that'll help a bit.
Problem is it's probably not just the sparrows, it's the robins, bluejays, finches, etc. All of them around 530a is pretty darn loud these days.
I have a couple of mockingbirds going all night! It's unreal for a few days now.

You're still sleeping at 5:45?
The day is half over!
There's work to be done, up and at 'em. :001_rolle
No I understand completely.
We have a cat that likes to make breakfast out of little birds, but it still doesn't stop them from sitting on the wires out back and making a racket.

There are plenty of cats around. Unfortunately, the sparrows have figured out that altitude is the remedy.:cursing: Besides, I had to find a new home for my last cat before I moved here. SWMBO never quite got used to her, and after looking at what it would have taken to bring her here, it was a no go. Fortunately, I found her a loving and warm home. Still miss her though.

A white noise generator in your bedroom may desensitize you to the increase in volume. A small fan may be just the ticket.

Have a baby.
A few months with a newborn will make sleeping in until 5:45 feel like a vacation!:w00t:

Send em my way. I love listenign to the sounds of birds chirping in the morning. I get up between 4 and 5 anyway. Would be a great addition to my alarm. I'm going to install a feeder to help bring them closer to the house.
Cannon fire will scare them off.

In the South on the farm we use the Lead solution and sharpen our squirrel hunting skills. When you can hit a sparrow with a 22 rifle all the time you have no issues with Squirrels ( which are fine eating)
Growing up honing my rifle skills on Sparrows got me lots of props in ROTC.
Where you live is the main starting point because even shooting them with an slingshot or air rifle could land you in hot water with the Law.

You have absolutely no idea how correct you are. Gun ownership and gun use is highly regulated here by the government for obvious reasons. Even something as innocuous as an air rifle or a slingshot can get you in more trouble than you can shake a stick at. Besides, there are so many of the sparrows in a residential neighborhood that the possible harm to people would preclude me from doing it even if it was permitted. There are two schools (elementary and combo. jr. and sr. high) within 100 yards of my place. Thanks for the thought though.

My house sits on a 2.5 acre lot so its sort of rural .Right after I bought my house I had a woodpecker that found it entertaining to drill in the wood on my houses southern facing addition ( rest of the house is block ) sounded like some one was breaking in at 6am , Id go out look around whole house nothing , go back inside , he would start again , open front door he would fly to tree ,took me 2 days to figure out what was even happening (Im not with it when woke up ). This went on for weeks I threw things at him, cursed him, sprayed tree with hose, go back inside he would start up again five minutes later .Several weeks and 8 silver dollar size holes or bigger later I went a little nuts . Cut a bunch of little holes in window screen on wall he was destroying put 16 left over from 4th of july bottle rockets with sticks broke off fuse facing in ,he started up ,I opened window he flew to tree , I lit fuses . He doesnt come around my yard much anymore That evening apoligized to neighbor ,he sort of looked at me funny .... Funniest part is two years latter my same neighbor a retired marine did same thing when he started on his house  He later told me drove 30 miles out of town to phantom fireworks bought two of the cannon style rocket launchers altered fuses so they fired without a delay ,waited outside in dark till woodpecker started up ,aimed and lit fuses with quote "Extreme Prejudice".Even from a half acre away sounded like a warzone ....... going on 4 years woodpecker free, cannons did work ,Somewhere out there is one shellshocked woodpecker but not in either of our lawns

I've heard that there's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow.

I love hearing the birds go off early in the morning, especially the mockingbirds.
I just hate the damn sparrows during the day. Little buggers keep building nests in my gutters and cause the rain to spill over. Plus they eat all the birdseed out of my feeders. Their only saving grace is that they will eat seed out of my hand, the little gluttons.
