I am considering bringing one these soaps back into my den. I have used both and MWF just didnt impress me but when I got the lather right it was damn good stuff. Tabac was a little over the top for me scent wise....but I miss it.
Which do you prefer and why?

This is a tough one because I really like both of them. I edge out the Fat because I prefer the scent. So its MWF by a nose (pun intended):biggrin1:.
Tabac always works for me. MWF can be hit or miss but when I get it right, it's perfect!

Dude...You're evil :tongue_sm!!! I love both, but I decided based on a coin toss (Tabac won). Both give me fantastic lather :thumbup:

Tabac has always been a touch drying on my skin. MWF has the exact opposite problem, it's one of the very best!

1. Tabac
2. Irisch Moos
3. MWF (maybe)

I chose Mitchell's because I have been using it longer. I only recently tried Tabac, and have had some great shaves with it also though.

Gotta go with MWF. It works great, and Tabac just doesn't mesh with my olfactory system.

I use both regularly along with Cella.

I prefer Tabac. MWF is definitely a quality product, but I don't find that it gives me better shaves than Tabac and, unlike some, I really like the way Tabac smells.

I vote for MWF. It never lets me down. Tabac was my go to soap especially after a couple of days of growth until it began to really irritated my skin so I had to drop it out of the rotation.

I like both Tabac and MWF, but Tabac gets the edge for me. :thumbup1:

MWF, The smell of Tabac is too much for my liking.

TABAC. Because it runs circles around MWF on every aspect that counts.
Scent, lather, latherability, packing, scent, latherability & scent.
And did I say I love the scent?

The FAT baby!
Tabac is an A+ soap with a C-/D+ scent.
Really a tough call but after some soul searching I voted Tabac.
They're both going to stay in my rotation forever.

I am leaning more towards Tabac.....so I ended up voting for that.
Whatever wins in the end is what I will get.

Tabac; easy lathering, nice but unusual scent, great cushion and glide, what's not to like?

Man, that was tough. No third option.
They are my two favorites with a couple others occasionally in the mix. After serious consideration, Tabac won by a hair.

For me MWF is unusable (lanolin is fine, but the lather does not agree with my way of shaving). So Tabac wins by default.

The Fat wins, no contest for me really. Other than the scent of Tabac which I love, the lather is meh. I get better glide with VDH but everything is perfect with MWF.

No reason to even consider Tabac IMO. MWF creates a great lather that not only produces a clean, close shave but also moisturizes you quite well.
On the other hand Tabac has a scent that, while some enjoy other's (myself included) find to be off putting.
I also find that Tabac dries rather quickly.
Again there really isn't a choice!

MWF, but let me tell you why. I started my 1 puck challenge with MWF and as I got to the very end I decided to try a few soaps out even though I planned on going a different route. I went down to a local shop that carries Tabac and personally didn't care for the scent so I didn't pull the trigger. I am sure Tabac is a great soap but I have a finicky nose, so if I don't like the scent no thanks. I instead purchased Jack Black based on smell because :w00t: it smells fantastic, citrus heavenly happiness. The only problem however is the lather is very sudsy, maybe a problem with my hard water?
Anyways I also order some Pre de Provence because I hear it's great with straight razor shaving, wicked good soap nice lather. I would say as good as MWF if not better but the soap reminds of me being in church with the priest swinging the incense smell, and for some reason that just doesn't add to the Zen of shaving for me  So what did I do? I ordered another puck of MWF and also some Cella the $12.00 one, and also a bar of MWF bath soap to boot. MWF just works and it works well. The Cella was because it has almond and my SWMBO really likes almond scents. Plus for $13.00 bucks on MWF you just can not complain for what you pay and what you get. So far it's the best soap to date that I have used for both DE and Straight shaving. As long as Lanolin doesn't bother you I say give it a whirl, if it doesn't mix well sell it on the BST forum like I will be doing with Jack Black and Pre de Provence in the next few days.
Good Luck and Happy Shaving

IMO the scent stuff is completely overblown. The smell quickly disappears with continual use.
MWF is better. Provides a closer shave with better skincare.

Wow. Right now it's 32 votes to 32 votes. Of course you had to pick the two soaps that are most doted over. (besides Cella anyhow..)

I chose Tabac as it should be in everyones den for its scent, packaging, and performance. It is just a great classic soap.
You really should have both though. I gravitated toward Tabac when I got both in a big soap buy, but once I figured out MWF they get their fair share of shaves.
I grated my MWF into a stick and get more consistent shaves from it now, but YMMV.

I did a Cella vs MWF a few months back and the winner was Cella!
I want to see which comes out on top this time.
If TABAC wins...I am going to post up a poll on:
TABAC vs CELLA!!

Both great soaps. I gave the slight edge to the Fat for moisturizing properties. Both smell wonderful to me.

MWF. It's one of just a couple of soaps that I'm almost certain to re-stock, once I run out. As for Tabac, I'll use up what I've got, then probably never buy it again. The smell is weak enough to be tolerable, but it amazes me that some find it pleasant.

Wow! 36 - 35 in favor of Tabac so far. This is like the state supreme court race here in Wisconsin. Will there a be a re-count? :a45:
Thankfully soaps aren't as polarizing as politicians.

Notwithstanding smell and ease of lathering, let's just look at the quality of the shave: MWF wins, as it provides a great cushion and enough glide, whereas Tabac provides almost no cushion and barely enough glide.
Now considering the more trivial aspects: scent goes to MWF and ease of lathering is tied.
MWF all the way for me. Tabac irritated and dried out my skin. Easy choice for me.

There is no question for me...MWF hands down.
Tabac is a mediocre soap in all areas except one...Scent, for that it wins as the most atrocious.

I have both. Love both. But if I had to grab one, it would be Tabac.
MWF hands down.
I have bought both stick and soap bowl of Tabac and was the worst soap blind buy ever:thumbdown.
Really i donīt know why is so high rated...

I know where YOU went!
The lady there gave me several Jack Black samples, and I decided to use some today on top of some Colonel Conk's soap. I had a LOT of lather from that combo, but as you say, it was pretty sudsy. Not sure what to think of that.
I started to use Tabac on top of the soap, but somehow I chickened out! Maybe it just didn't seem "appropriate"!

I think I've said this before on these forums, tabac smells like urinal cakes (lollies or whatever you call them). It is easy to lather, but it irritates the skin by the 3rd pass. I used it this morning, and unfortunately the scent is still lingering. I've been using it a lot lately just so that I wont have it any longer. And I still can't get over the opinion that it is well packaged. I took mine out of the bowl because it looks so cheap and tacky - mass produced. There's just nothing about it. And I hate to think of the horrendous chemicals that must be used to print that glossy box, along with the transparent plastic. MWF's packaging is much more humble, and IMHO much more classy.
I'm on my 2nd puck of MWF, and it is definitely a bit finicky. It pays to work out one's method and stick to it, rather than switching as I have done, from bowl to face, and back again, and again... I think I'll try and stick to bowl lathering from now since it's much easier to see and hear the difference between a good and mediocre lather.

dangit! I can't come out and play, I don't have MWF yet since the price point. Will have to get it soon!
