I recently sold my Feather Stainless DE so that I could purchase the Classic Cobra. I have gravitated towards the SE and injector razors and found that the Feather just wasn't doing it for me anymore. I could get a nice, irritation-free shave but found that it wasn't all that close compared to the SE or injector.
I had my first shave with the Cobra today loaded with a Feather Pro blade. It wasn't difficult to load and I didn't lose any blood by handling the blade.
I shaved with it like I would my Hydromatic injector and had an awesome shave. I had a slight cut under my ear on the jaw line because I accidently moved the razor sideways but it was very slight because I caught myself as I did it.
I will be shaving with it again tomorrow and can't wait.:thumbup::thumbup:

Hands down my favorite safety razor. IMO the best safety razor for head shaving also. Congrats on your new razor.....I also found changing the blade quite easy.
I switched to it 4 months ago from Futur and Slant. I still use DE, but rarely.
CC is a great razor. I am getting BBS nearly every time.
I also like (comparing with regular injector) that I can easily remove the blade after each shave
and wash both blade and razor. I only wish it would be a matching stand to it (similar to Feather SS)

It is my favorite razor by far. A while back I finally convinced myself I could sell my backup, then I bought another on eBay, and again convinced myself I did not need two. :tongue_sm Now another Cobra veteran has one for home and one for the road.

Here's a picture from today's shave: Cobra Classic, Feather Pro blade, Mama Bear's Lilac Ice soap, Mama Bear's Lilac Ice Milk, Chubby 2, AOS Alum.
Day two was another great shave. It is like shaving with one of my injectors and a real pleasure. The areas that typically don't give me trouble are much easier to shave because of the extra width of the head. The trouble spots where I like to take my time are ok too because it is very easy to manipulate this razor.
It has a hefty feel to it, was easy to load, and performs great. This one is a keeper.:thumbup::thumbup:

You use Feather Professional blades. I think they were originally sold to go in the disposable blade straight razors.

The size of the head....wide but not fat. This is also the only way experience Feather Professional blades in a safety razor. The other way is by using a Feather AC straight. For me the Feather Professional blade is second to none.

Aye, true mate. Thing is, therer was a thread on it the other day, customs are being 'funny' at the moment and by the time I actually get hold of them, they'd have cost a fair bit more.
I'll wait the 2-3 months. Only two weeks ago i bought a Mergress XL, so I'm having fun with that, but the Cobra is a defo on the hit list.

I think there is a thread here on B&B where members mentioned buying Feather Professional blades, clipping them down to size, and using them in their favorite injector of choice (e.g., Schick Type E). I think Ambrose was one of the members who used to do this, but I seem to recall there were a number of people that mentioned it. I am not good with tools, and I like my fingers, so I just bought the Cobra Classic. :001_rolle

I don't care for the pro guards, never tried them in my Cobra but did use one in a Feather AC. When I ordered my Cobra a couple of weeks ago, I called and asked if they would substitute the Pro's for the guards And it was no problem. I didn't want to be stuck with another pack of those things.

Don't forget that you can also use Captain Kai Mild blades in the Cobra. They're not quite as sharp but are the smoothest blade I've ever used in any razor.

I looked at the Cobra video on classic shaving's site. The blade handling seems clumsy and a bit dangerous to me. The injector container is a means to sell the feather blades for a SE style razor, not to improve blade insertion into the razor. Not necessarily a deal-breaker but it seemed a bit of a flaw that you have to handle the small narrow blade to insert it in the razor. If nothing else, it's a clumsy design...especially for a $169 razor.

Any razor is a YMMV situation, but I have owned mine for a while and have never cut my fingers on a blade. My experience has been similar using DE razors. However, I have cut a finger when handling a straight, but I do not think I can blame that on the razor...though I might blame it TstebinsB who sold me the razor. To put it simply, no. :001_smile YMMV, but I prefer the KAI and Feather blades to "standard" injector blades. In order to use those blade in a safety razor (without having to cut them) the Cobra Classic is currently the only option. If you want to get a first hand experience, consider this a personal invitation to join the Cobra Classic tour.

+1 to Poonjaji. I just sent his Touring Cobra on to the next person on the list. I will say that I didn't order one after the first shave. I waited until I shaved with something else after mailing it off and then ordered one! While I may not use it every time, I will definitely enjoy having it and using it.
Disclaimer: I just started wet shaving this year. However, that razor is wonderful.

Apparently YMMV in a big way here. I have 5 different Schicks (E3, G8, I1, I2, J) and another half dozen or so SEs (1907 Lather Cather, 1912, OC Damaskeene, 1914, OCMM, etc...) and nearly 50 DEs and I find that while all of these are good (at least most of them anyways) - the Cobra Classic/Feather Pro combo does everything they can do...and does it better.
Regarding blade choices - I cannot imagine anyone thinking the current blades available for the Schick, SE or DE razors are better than the Feathers - at least on my face - that's simply not the case.
In regards to the money, to be honest, $169 is simply not a "deal breaker" for me. I have spent plenty on several razors (and brushes) - Vision 2000, Tradere, 2 iKons, Mergress, Joris,etc...and some of those mentioned were truly a waste of money. They did absolutely nothing that a far cheaper DE wouldn't do - yet, I spent the money. In the Cobra's case, it does something that no other DE or SE does - and that introduces you to a superior blade - and I do mean superior. Talk with guys on the Straight forums here or elsewhere - the common theme when discussing the Feather blades is that they are as sharp a blade (with the necessary and desired stiffness) that you're ever going to get. While the straight guys (I sold all 20 of mine recently) may well prefer their straights over the Artist Club stuff - none will deny your ability to get an amazing shave with the Feather SS, RG, DX...or the Cobra.
Can the Cobra be better? Absolutely. I truly hope/wish that someone would introduce a rock solid stainless steel instrument built around the Feather/Kai blades - no doubt Tradere or Weber could do that, among others - and for the right Stainless/Feather Pro design, I would happily pay $250. Until then however, the Cobra is the best you're going to do in that category.
Regarding the blade changing - it's a fairly simple process. More time consuming than a Schick or DE for sure; but certainly quicker than honing and stropping.

Have you actually used the Cobra? If you have...and didn't like it; that's cool with me. It's a YMMV type of thing. On the other hand, if you haven't actually shaved with it...I'm not entirely sure what you're basing your opinion on. There's still a "pass around" going on with a Cobra Classic and blades; if you haven't used one, please get your name on that list. You will certainly be in a better place to pass judgment, whether it be good or bad, after you actually shave with it a time or two.
In regards to the $30-$40 look of it - well, it's the only game in town for the Feather AC blades - I too, hope that will change one day.

The retail price of most razors are no where near their actual "value"

You are entitled to your feelings fcdiscus. I think turtle's point is that making (repeat) negative comments about a razor you have never used does not add much value to the conversation. It would be like me saying I feel a $15 puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat is over priced when the only soap I have ever used is a $1 puck of Williams.
Consider this a personal invitation to join the Cobra Classic tour. Afterwards you can provide an educated critique on how the shaves compare and just how over priced it is. (Note: there is no Vaseline in the tour box. You have to provide your own.)
