So far my soap collection is: Edwin Jagger Sandalwood, Conk Bay Rum, and Arko. I'm trying to decide on what to try next. I wanted to give MWF a try, but, having tried the MWF bath soap, it seems as if my skin doesn't like MWF. I get breakouts when I use the bath soap, so I figure I'd have the same issue with the shave soap.
I'm looking at Tabac as it gets many rave reviews, also mother bears, and the GFT lineup. So, I guess my question is, those of you plagued with sensitive skin, which soaps do you prefer?
I will add that we do have hard water to deal with here as well.
Thanks:shaving:

GFT Violet soap. The soap takes some time getting used to the water/soap ratio, but provides me with smooth shaves without irritation and the scent is nice and extraordinary. I love it.

Mama Bear soaps are excellent, but be aware that they are strongly scented and some of the essential oils/fragrance oils that she uses can be irritating. I've had bad luck with any that use lime, but others work great for me.
Tabac is a must-try soap. The performance is awesome, it's easy to lather, and the scent is great (although there are some here that don't like the smell...YMMV!)

I have orderded 3 shave sticks: Irisch Moos (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=I&t=74017), Speick (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=S&t=56775), & Palmolive (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=P&t=6677)
Click on the links to read the reviews.
My reasons for trying these soaps:
1. These are supposedly basement bargain.. top of the line performers
2. Tallow based
3. Killer scents
And BTW.......MWF didn't work for me either. Tabac gave me some of the best shaves ever...but the scent was too over the top for me. ARKO was great too...the smell was too over the top on this as well.
GFT Limes has been an excellent performer for me. You may also consider Cella... which is what I currently consider my "desert island" soap.
Good luck and let us know what you chose!

I have 2 in my rotation right now. Tabac and GFT coconut. I prefer the GFT over Tabac b/c of the scent. The coconut scent is heavenly. Tabac is great too...very soft, lathers great but I just cannot get over the smell. This morning, it gave off a hint of aged tobacco. Very grandfather-ish. Not sure I can get used to that.

T&H and Provence Sante are both excellent and relatively mild. I have MWF and love it, but only use it once or twice as week since it can clog your pores and cause breakouts. You gotta watch using too much lanolin if you're prone to breakouts.

Tabac is a true classic and works well. If you don't like it you'll have no problem trading/selling or pif'ng it!

IMO Instuit Karit is superior to Tabac for providing a closer shave and skin care.
Strongly suggest trying French soaps.

Tabac or D.R. Harris both excellent. if you go for the harris get the refill puck allot cheaper when trying stuff.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I will order up some Tabac, and the shave sticks that were listed to try for sure. If SWMBO isn't watching at the time of purchase I'll grab one from the GFT lineup, and either a harris or one of the french products to go with them. She noticed the new (to me) fatboy this morning, so I may have to spread the purchases out a bit as she feels that a parker 89r, EJ DE89, 37G merkur, fatboy, proraso cream, EJ sandalwood, etc, etc is excessive for a 2 month time frame, but I assured her it is perfectly normal. :)

I'd say you are using admirable restraint! :w00t:

thanks for the support. :) I'll pass that information on to her. The reviews say irisch moos and tabac are identical except in smell, and that irisch moos wins on fragrance. That makes for a pretty appealing product to try out with all the rave reviews available for tabac!

How about VDH Deluxe pucks (my exclusive 'go-to' shave soap and only at $1.54 per puck at Walmart in my town), and with the addition of a few drops of glycerine, the result is really great 'stiff peak' Uberlather.
I've been using VDH Deluxe Shave Soap for going on three months and really like the latherbility (at least 10 minutes without drying), the 'crisp' scent and the ingredients in the soap for my sensitive skin. Also, throughout the shave, the lather provided a lot of cushion and glide.
I just have to say that this is about the best shaving soap that I've ever tried…much better (and cheaper!!), than the Chelsea's Unscented Shave Soap I've been using in the past and certainly a big step up from the Williams Shaving Soap I had been using for at the last 30yrs. :lol1:

it maybe better than current Williams (even that's debatable) - but there's no way VDH is better than pre-2005 Williams. that stuff is marvelous.

Will likely order some tabac and a palmolive shave stick tomorrow as well!

just snuck in an order for 12 sticks of Arko for around $15 including shipping from amazon as well...shhh!:sneaky2:
gonna be tough to hide that order...even if I can hide the packaging, one of the side effects of my wife being pregnant is that she has the nose of a well trained drug sniffing dog. She'll find the Arko no matter where I hide it.

If you like the convenience of a stick, get some Speick. Lathers just as good as the Arko. Also, DR Harris- good enough for the Prince of Wales, good enough for you.:001_smile

I would try the Tabac. Mama Bear makes great soaps, but some gents have found the essential oils used for the fragrance don't agree too well with their sensitive skin,
I've never have a problem though.

Provence Sante is a marvelous performer as has already been stated.
