Two weeks ago I bought a EJ89L based in large part from comments here. After using it for two weeks I can say that it is indeed a RAD Killer! My other tools are feeling left out. I loaded up a Feather two weeks ago and still got a BBS shave this morning. However, the handle does get a little slippery when wet. The grip could be better but over all it is's a very impressive razor.

I don't find mine to be slippery when wet at all. If I get soap on the handle then it get's almost impossible to hold on to but that's happened with all the razors I've owned.

The DE89L is the only razor in use in my den. It's my ideal razor.

I love that little, chrome guy too. But, he is probably a little upset with me as I have been using my new Sledgehammer this whole week thus far.

No need for any other razor. It's the only razor in my den.

My favorite too, until I got a slant

Great razor. To eliminate the slippery when wet problem, wet your finger tips then touch a styptic pen. The residue from the styptic makes the handle non-slip.

I'll bet water hardness plays a part. My DE89L has never been slippery but water is hard around here. That said, I have seen a lot of posts commenting on how slippery it is. As always, YMMV.

I have the EJ DE89 Chrome (to me the EJ DE89L is the one with the lines on the handle) and it never sliped! But there is a new EJ DE89BA Barley with an incredible handle, that one appears even easier to hold!

For all of you that say it's the only razor and it's perfect I have one word: Chatsworth! More weight, perfect equilibrium, even better shave!

Interesting. I parted company with my Chatsworth simply because I found exactly the opposite to be true.

I was trying to see how one could call the 89L handle slippery just this morning, and that's the same conclusion I came to. I've never had a problem with this handle, and I've got hard water, also. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but I can't help but wonder if water softness could be a factor.

Get the EJ DE86 instead! The polymer handle is classy and grips really well!

You may be on to something. I have very soft water. It's especially noticeable when I invert the razor while going ATG.

Does anyone have the new EJ89 with the barley chrome handle? It looks very impressive and would probably be a bit grippier to hold as well. Thoughts?

The EJ89L is my only razor. I don't find it to be slippery but I am thinking about getting a cooncat bob handle just because they look cool.

I have a DE87 (ivory handle) and I do find it to be a bit slippery when wet. This was my first DE razor, and I've come to prefer "grippy" handles. Still, there's no doubt it's a fine razor.

It's my only razor as well. At first I found the razor slippery but now not so at all.
Still entertaining an adjustable.

I have the EJ DE87811 with the octagonal ivory handle and this has a good grip even when wet. All razors are going to be slippery once you add soap to the equation. I have the same razor with the round ivory handle and that also has a fairly good grip when wet but the flat sides of the DE87811 provide a better grip with better control. Both razors have the same heads as all the ones mentioned above.

Rub a wet alum block on your fingers.

Thanks lots of good advice. BTY are all of the heads on the EJ's the same with handles varying depending on the model?

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that to be the case with the majority at least.

Can't be sure, but it looks like there are a couple of different heads on different models, but it could be different angles in the photos I was looking at.

Our water is a little softer than other areas. I had issues with my EJ being slippery. I couldn't get past it, so I sold it. THEN, I got a Muhle R89. Problem solved. IMHO, a better handle grip, same razor head. Not to ruffle any feathers, because we're all entitled to our opinion, but I think the Muhle is overall a better looking razor ( a more classic type of knurling) and the quality is top-notch. It' certainly "handles" better for me. But, if the EJ works for someone, then great. It's a nice looking piece of hardware that just didn't work out for me.

In between owning the above mentioned razors, I acquired a Muhle head in a trade with another member. I had CCB make me one of those cool looking black Bull Mastiff Ultra-Lite handles ( aluminum alloy, I think). That is an excellent combo and so easy to shave with. So now, I have 2 Muhle heads on 2 types of handles that both perform at a very high level and are a pleasure to look at as well.
