Does anyone else use two different razors for the same shave?

I stepped up to a Slant after a year and a half with my HD (which was my first safety razor). I quickly learned that while the Slant was great on my face, it gave my some razor burn on my lower neck. So lately I've been using the Slant on my face and the HD on my neck.

Does anyone else do something like this?

Only when I use a straight razor on my face and a DE on my head.

As a rule, I only ever have one blade on the go at any one time. So, no. I don't really like the idea of having to switch razors, but it does seem to work for some people.

If my beard is 2 or 3 days long I'll often use my O.C. DE for the first pass, and then use my straight for the second pass and any cleanup. I find this has the benefit of removing the longer, tougher, whiskers and allows for a much easier and smoother finish and cleanup. :thumbup1:

I've used an adjustable on two different settings...one setting WTG and a milder setting ATG. I found it a bit tedious because I'd forget to reset the setting back to (what I call) normal. These days, one razor/setting for the entire shave.

When I have a bad day with the straight razor I have an 1914 SE waiting in the wings to bail me out. Hoping this stops in the near future tho.

Sounds like a pain to me, but if it works it works, right?

I tried it for a time, because I liked the idea of going from aggressive (Gillette slim set on seven) to mild (Gillette black tip Super Speed). . . but after a while I began to prefer the idea of finding one razor that can do both. Initially it was a red tip, but now I'm using a NEW.

I know I sound obsessive, but Bruce on Shaving actually suggests three razors for three passes (http://www.bruceonshaving.com/2010/11/15/the-3-razor-shaving-method-revisited/). (I know some people don't get on with his opinions, but I've never heard anyone describe him as dull.) Me, I don't third pass - just cleanup work under my chin.

Whatever works for you. . .

There are some interesting thoughts here. Not sure I share the theory though. I have never found a razor that leaves me wanting after the first or even second pass - even the most mild razor can reduce stubble. With my Techs (mild razors) I have trouble getting really close during the final pass/buffing (but they reduce just as well as my OC Old Type, or at least nearly as well). It is during the last pass that my more aggressive razors really show their ability - not saying you need an adjustable on 7/8, just something a little more aggressive than the mild razors Bruce suggests.
