View Full Version : Hey MODERATORS! This one is for you

BillEllis

I am convinced that the mods around here have a deep-seated conviction to help other folk on this forum without benefiting very much in a tangible way. I am doing this to make up for them having to put up with yahoo's with flowery tongues like me who often increase their Tums intake.

I have a three-piece vintage Gillette razor that I used to practice my engraving technique. I am going to give it away to a moderator. I want any of them who are interested in having this DE. It will be free, including shipping costs. All they have to do is say, "I'm in!" on this thread. On April 23rd, I will take all who have said, "I'm in!" and draw a name from the entries out of a hat.

This one is just for moderators, fellas. Maybe I'll come up with something for the rest of you DE guys some time down the road.

wonderful!

So... how do I become a mod?

First you have to lose any sense of self and get to such a selfless point that you're agonizing over whether it's even proper to take advantage of B&B by responding to such a generous offer. I bet 6 of them have already seen this thread and are sitting around biting their tongues and fingers waiting for someone else--anyone else--to respond and say I'm in, but not them.

Or is there a ball game on?

I am not a mod, I have not seen anything like this before in a razor... very nice! Perfect for the well deserved mods out there :thumbup1:

1. Are you taking orders?
2. Are their limitations to what you can do (size permitting) or are you restricted to certain templates? For instance, what about that chick I see on all the mud flaps on trucks ( :w00t: )

First you would need to get in line behind the 2000 others wanting one and then you need to have a small dump truck full of large denomination bills as a down payment to get on the waiting list for one of Bill's magnificent pieces of art.

Anyone that has been on B&B for any time knows Bill's work is nothing less than perfection and a true work of art.

I edited my post before your response, but thanks nonetheless. I know someone getting married who fits the description of someone with access to both small dump trucks and large denomination bills (I have access to neither :tongue_sm ) who was asking me for "one of a kind groomsmen gift ideas". Any more? Better jump in quick before it's too late. So that no one doubts my choice, here's what I want to do. Each moderator will be assigned a number. I won't want to know what the number is. This is accomplished by someone else picking them for me. I will use a random generator to pick one of the "numbers" and announce it. The person who has the number will come forward on the thread, claiming ownership.

Now, to assign the number. I'd like superbleu to assign any number to each mod and notify each one of them what their number is. I pick superbleu because I really trust him to be honest. Then, superbleu will just give me the numbers only for each of the contestants. The numbers can be random and not in sequence. I'll generate the winner on the 23rd, not even knowing myself who has won until they come forward to claim the razor.

I was going to suggest using the "Chat" room on the 23rd to make the announcement, but that won't be possible, it looks like. I tried to figure out how it worked and punched the Chat tab and I got a separate screen telling me I was banned. For a second, I thought maybe the link somehow was connected to srp.

Obviously I am not a mod, but I just wanted to comment what a great idea and I am glad that they finally jumped on this exquisite piece of shaving gear. I am also amazed by their unwillingness to just accept a gift but their desire to give back to something that Bill holds dear, Dogtown (http://www.bestfriends.org/atthesanctuary/animals/dogs.cfm).

This is just another reason that I am thankful to be considered part of this community and why no one else really gets what a great group of people are on here.

I will engrave something similar for the first person who guesses the winning number. Post your guess here. One guess per member. Only the first correct guess wins. That means 10 of you have a shot. Paying attention to this thread gives you a lead in the chance to win. Superbleu, you can participate in this one too.

Additionally, I will afford the winner of this safety razor an alternative prize. If he so chooses, the winner can pass the razor off to the runner up and he, instead, can have the opportunity to buy the second custom razor from the top in the following pic when I finish it in the coming weeks. I can give a price range to the winner before he makes the decision. Here is the pic of the customs.

Well, then...

Brian decided to go for an opportunity to purchase a custom razor from me as well. Baffles me... I woulda gone for the free stuff. :001_huh: That means that the second place person, #580, wins the engraved DE.

Step forward muh-man and claim your prize. Send me your address in a PM and I'll get it off to you this week.

Bill this just goes to show how high of a demand there is for your fine custon straight razors.

People turn down a Hand engraved beaut of a razor just to get in line and throw down some hard cash for one of your straight razors.

I know some of you are a suspicious bunch, but I can assure you there were no shenanigans on the picking of the winners, I'm not above cheating, but Bill is a stand up as they come, believe me I have tried to by-pass his wait list by illicit manners several times only to be turned down.

Hot damn, that's my lucky number - good thing my office door is closed so my co-workers don't see my goofy happy dance!

Now, the big question - whether to use the thing or just put it in a glass case and admire it!
I'm a big believer in using the best of everything I have as often as I can. If we leave this earth only experiencing the admiration of the prize, what would be the sense of owning them in the first place? You can always go to the museum if all you just want is to gaze at the cool stuff in the case...

I'm always telling my wife, "Don't be afraid of using your most expensive perfume any time you feel like wearing it. Don't matter much if it's only to make a trip to the grocery store. The enjoyment of those things is what makes the journey through life a true pleasure.

So, when the razor arrives, break out your best brush, your best lather, and your favorite cologne. You'll enjoy the experience much more than just shaving with a razor that has a little bit of engraving on it... or looking at it in the case. :001_smile

I just wanted to let everyone know that this baby showed up today and all I can say is that it looks better in person than in the pictures.

Bill - I agree completely with your perspective and plan on loading this thing of beauty up with my favourite blade and using it for my shave tomorrow morning.

Thanks very much for this very generous gesture - this beauty will take pride of place in my very modest collection.

I hope you get a lot of use out of it. It was a fun thing to do...
