Hello Gents,

Just a quick check in!

So i finally decided to bite the bullet around a month ago and ordered the following little weapons from QED (Charles is fantastic)

Merkur Progress
Blade Sampler Pack
Savile Row 3722 Silvertip
Trumper Violet Cream
Coral Skin Food

Now i wont lie, it was all very daunting, the more i researched the more 'newby' tips i found, they seemed endless, it was very overwhelming! i decided to concentrate heavily on the following...

- Good Lather
- Little to zero pressure
- Taking plenty of time and small strokes
- Blade angle

I had originally planned to only go WTG x2 for my first shave after reading many posts on doing so HOWEVER after the first pass it seemed to have little affect on my beard (i have blue beard, its like hacking away at thick steel!) and i had from what i could tell, zero irritation. Lathered up again XTG, much better and still no irritation. Finally ATG (I know, i know a big NO NO for first timers ) - a clean shave with zero irritation. Only a minor cut on the side of my mouth to report.

Overall, very impressed! No BBS but a clean shave. No irritation.

Thanks to everyone for the information shared on this wonderful forum, i have no doubt that it contributed to the shave!

Im sure it only gets better from here....

Hmmm. Glad you had a great shave! You were right to concentrate on your four choices! Think beard reduction, not elimination. I believe the longer you can stay away from the temptation of ATG, the more your technic will increase. WTG XTG XTG should be good for a short while. Remember the 'goal' is the process, learning great technic. Anyway, Have Fun! Hmmmm. come to think of it, maybe fun is the 'goal'. Whatever.

It sounds like you are well on your way to (besides being enrolled in the fictional, sacred and utopian Order of Shavedom), excellence. As always, we're here to assist you in your DE experience. :yesnod:

Welcome! I used to always have irritation with the disposables i once used, now since i switched to DE shaving,i hardly ever do & i enjoy it a heck of a lot more!

Have fun & enjoy experimenting with different blade/razor combos!

Congratulantions! you're well on your way. Since you got a sampler pack, careful with some of those blades. If you notice irritation or weepers, It could be the blade and not your technique.
