Well gentleman,

I have purchased my first straight razor this morning from RupRazor! I was going to buy from Whipped Dog but after seeing the life time honing of the blade for just the price of shipping I was sold. I bought the very sexy 6/8 Gold Dollar Razor and Filly Strop for beginners (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii180/kenrup/Razor/Stock/kits/IMGP1110.jpg). The whole reason I wanted to move forward on this new journey, is my Great Grandfather used to shave like this. I have seen his straight many times, but never took the time to appreciate it, or learn about it. Now that I have learned tons about the razor, I felt it was time to bring back this lost art of shaving my family used to do and walk in my Great Grandfathers footsteps. After reading all the post here on B&B, I also took some time lurking at SRP. As cool as their site maybe, my home is here at B&B  Anyways I am very excited and plan to take my time to learn this way of shaving and also see if I can not talk my Grandfather our Great Grandfathers J. Wiss and Son's Razor.

Nice write up.
Good luck, just take it slow and you'll have it down in no time.

Nice, it's pretty neat when you stop to think about it. I was lucky enough to get my Great-Grandfather's straight razor, and after removing some chips in the edge, and overcoming a weird spine thing, have been getting some great shaves with it.

Just remember, it's not just about getting a great shave with a straight, it's about having a great time shaving.

Thanks Gents! Yeah I am getting very excited! After reading (http://straightrazorplace.com/beginners/38137-first-straight-razor-shave-read-first.html) a write up from SRP I have decided I will be mixing both straight and DE together to really take my time to learn this special art of shaving. While DE has really helped me appreciate what a great shave can be over m3 and goop, I find bringing back a tradition of shaving with a straight to my families name is just simply exhilarating. I don't expect great results right away but my hope is to slowly move away from DE and use a straight as my main razor like my Great Grandfather did!

You will find as you get better with the straight, you will regard the DE's in the sMe way you regard an M3 now...

Nice razors Vern! Do you know anything about them? I am currently working with the Smithsonian trying to get a scan of a Wiss catalog of razors they have. Will see what I can get :thumbup1:
