View Full Version : Is Cella That Good?

I'm at a point now where I've tried quite a few quality soap's. This morning, using Cella for the first time (with a new blade), the lather looked and felt really really good. I initially thought that I just happened to catch it perfect on the mixing of it. Here's the freaky part. I had expected it to be decent from reading the reviews. But I got the closest, smoothest, irration free, nick free, and the most glide I've ever had with ANY shave. I mean BBS wasn't even the right term, this was so good. Well to say the least, I was very surprised. I'm wondering if all of this was just a major coinsidence, or if any of you gent's had had similar experience with this soap. Is it possible that a $12 soap could be the best that I've ever used? Amazing!

it's a good soap, i wouldn't call it the BEST though.

i use Cella often and get a good shave from it each time, it lathers well, smells ok and i have 1/3 of a Kg. not sure i would buy it again, but i wouldn't turn it down either (if that makes sense).

i prefer RazoRock for the scent, price and overall effectiveness of it.

Cella is one of my favorites, and certainly one of the best soaps available. However, IMHO it is not uniquely better than some of the other great soaps that B&B members rave about. Isn't it nice to find something new that makes shaving a pleasure?

Perhaps it's just particularly easy to lather... ?

I use Cella almost exclusively at the moment.

Cella is pretty good. So are Speick and Tabac, which are both tallow soaps as well. Price is no indication of quality, a lot of the more traditional barber style products will perform just as well, or better than expensive brands.

Cella's ok. Would I miss it if it went completely away....I could find a replacement.

Cella smells odd to me. I don't like the clump that I have to beat to a pulp and lather. While it may be good I think a lot of people like it because of the novelty of being a soft soap. It's cool. And, yes, it works. I think there's better and haven't yet written home about Cella. Now, there was this woman named, Ciera. She was written home about.

so there you have it. some say it's the BEST EVER, some say Nah..take it or leave it.

like everything, it's a YMMV type of product. works for some, but not for others.

best off trying it and seeing for yourself. i'm guessing you won't hate it, but you also may not love it.

also, shouldn't this be in the SHAVE SOAP thread?

It's in my rotation, it's not my favorite though. During the winter, I'll take GFT Limes over Cella and during the summer Proraso over Cella. But I do through Cella into the rotation all year.

Ah, I have tried it, if you even bothered to read my original post.

To everyone else, your input is appreciated. Also, if I dropped this in the wrong forum, I apoligize. Seem's as though the "it's not in the correct forum police" are out.

Works great but no better than MWF, Proraso, Omega and I prefer the aroma of Proraso/Omega. Cella has a better lather than Tabac, but I prefer the aroma of Tabac. If I have never had a problem with Mama Bear's products, how can I say something is better than them?

There is a lot of good stuff out there, I am not ready to crown any one of them "best"

Yes, it's really that good. Smooth shaves whenever it's used which is often right now. Rotating between Cella and Proraso and looking for a third to add to the mix.

I have both Cella, and the Proraso, and just picked up of Spieck shave stick. I would rate them Spieck(#1), Cella, Proraso. I like all three, but the Proraso has parabens so it is a once a week thing, or when I want a little cooling.

I recently recieved a sample from a fellow member as a nice PIF. After using it for about a week I confirm that it is a very good soap. That being said it doesn't stand out all that much against many of the hard soaps I frequently use. MWF, for me, provides a much closer and smoother shave. Tabac also gives me a nicer lather, and there are plenty of soaps that smell much better. Despite the hype and the pleasant shaves it provides I don't think I'll be purchasing any when my sample runs out, though it was nice to experience what so many people seem to be raving about.

Nonono, Cella is horrible, horrible stuff. You should send it to Marco. Or to me. We know how to properly dispose of it.

What, you're scooping some out? No! Treat it like a soap, not like a cream, and it'll work better for you.

This.

I need to adjust my review I posted. When I tried Cella, it was amazing. Since then I've tried many more soaps, and I don't think it's as good as I once thought.

Plus it's smelly :thumbdown

....gave it to my son-in-law!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overrated and over promoted !

the one think i do LOVE about cella is the consitancy of the raw soap. not too soft, not too hard. i find it just about perfect.

scent could be a bit more almondy or marzipannie, it's a little soapy for my tastes.

I like Cella a lot.

I like a lot of soaps a lot.

That's what's great about shaving...if I put the Cella away and start getting funky with the Tabac, the Cella doesn't start crying, get a lawyer and take half my stuff.

I've yet to get a poor shave from Cella, lathers well enough, great cushion and glide. Not a huge fan of the scent. Honestly though, RazoRock is as good if not better in the lather, cushion and glide department...it's super slick ;-) Though I have the same problem with it...the scent. It smells like Cella, only stronger....so it's a trade off for me. I recommend both!

Now I've got to make a point of getting RazoRock. I love the smell of Cella, so stronger is even better, now if the scent could only linger for while like Tabac does.

i find the RazoRock smells more like food grade almonds as opposed to the soapy almond smell of cella.

when i open up RazoRock it smells like opening a bottle of pure vanilla, but when i crack open cella, to me it smells soapy almond.

but yes, like others have said, it's nice to use it for a while, then put it away and come back to it. it still has a place in my rotation, at least until the 3 new RazoRocks come out in a few weeks (from italianbarber)

i've used it both ways, but actually prefer to swipe a little with something and put a little dab (almond size) in my bowl. i find i get a better lather that way.

Almond sized? I would probably float away in a sea of lather if I used that much...

ok, maybe peanut sized. i haven't had almonds in a while, but everyone refers to "almond size".
