View Full Version : Oster Fast Feed problems

Hi guys, for the last 5 years or so I've been using a cheap Remington self-lubricating clipper to shave my head. When I grew a beard I used it to trim that and it worked like a charm. It always cut, never pulled, and was practically maintenance free.

A couple months ago I dropped the clipper on the tile floor of my washroom. Well that was it for the ol' Remington, it was useless after that. So I decided I'd splurge and get an Oster Fast Feed after reading raves about it all over the internet. Immediately when I got it I could tell it seemed to be really well built. Thing is, it's not living up to expectations. It shaves my head without a problem but when it comes to trimming my beard, I get tugging and pulling the entire time. I make sure to lubricate it every time I use it, but even with that it's a painful experience. It's getting to the point where I dread using it - trimming my beard shouldn't be an ordeal!

Am I missing something here? I don't know what I might be doing wrong. I'm *this* close to going to Wal-Mart and getting another cheap Remington. Any help would be really appreciated.

From one F to another - I've used the Fast Feed before, and it did a great job on my head but I don't think it's suitable for beard trimming. I did attempt it once but it didn't go well. YMMF.

My advice is to give wetshaving a try :thumbup1:

you should have spent another 10 bucks on the classic 76..at any rate, you must use a different size blade on your beard...maybe take it down with an ..0A or an 00 and finish up with a 00000...Go to a good barber supply house,or email a few,and ask what are the best blades for what you want...this is the whole concept of "changeable blades"....

Haha I already do. On my neck anyway. My facial hair tends to change every so often.

Thanks for the input. Seems kind of strange that such a highly regarded tool can't do something as basic as trimming a beard when the Remington worked flawlessly. I always thought that something that could do one would be able to do the other.

To be honest, I never swapped the blades out of it (just the guards), so I think you should try malocchio's advice. A finer blade would probably be cheaper than a beard trimmer.
