I found this at a "sale". It's a sweet piece of catalin that has a magnet embedded in it. They said it was used for sewing, to pick up needles and such. It is a strong magnet. I thought I could pop out the magnet and then plop in a knot (a small knot though) and have a very different and cool brush. Alas, once I got it home I discovered the magnet fills up 2/3 of the handle. I would destroy the plastic getting it out. So now I have a different and cool magnet. :001_smile

You could cut it off flush and drill it to depth for the knot. Then you'd have a cool magnetic brush. :thumbup1:
That is a beautiful color.
I too toyed with the idea of buying things like salt shakers, lamp bases, etc., in order to try drilling them out to get a catalin brush handle.
So far I have settled on trying to find poker and backgammon chips and gluing them together then trying to drill them.
That's the plan, but I haven't done anything as of yet other than acquiring some chips.
When I get the nerve and begin drilling these beautiful chips, I will post my progress.

And that is the crux of the matter. The other problem is most catalin based products can be expensive. I have to believe that any re-purposing old catalin is going to have a high degree of success or I am not going to do it. Catalin based items are collectible as they are.

As you said, at least you have a nice and collectible magnet.
Maybe take up sewing as a hobby?

Drill out the opposite end from the magnet and put the knot in there. Then you can have a small diameter metal disk that sits on the counter as a stand. Think of those pen holders...just a thought...could be one of the more unique brushes out in the wild today...
