I picked up a black handled I-2 (first model w/hyrdomagic) this weekend at an antique shop. Some of the plastic ribs on the handle have been pressed down in spots, but overall it's in excellent condition (but no case).

It had an almost black blade already in it, I figured it was an old carbon steel blade. But upon closer inspection while cleaning it, I noticed that there was no edge on the blade. Now an absurdly dull blade I'd understand, but what was loaded in my injector had no edgoe whatsoever. At first I checked to see if somehow the blade had been loaded backwards (edge on the back of the blade), nope no edge there.

So, could this have been a blade "placeholder" or something similar that was shipped out in blades when they were new? In other words, did I stumble upon a NOS injector that's never even had a blade loaded?

Based on the condition of the handle I'd say no, but the finish is in excellent condition, and I don't see a person loading a blank into the razor after they've already used it.

I did not use my blade for a while. When I went to use it, it was completely dull. It gave a horrible shave. I was in a rush, and just abandoned the shave for my electric norelco reflex plus.

It is probably a really dull old blade.

But I have been using my injector all week with a new blade. It has been giving me some great shaves all week.

I think the brand new Schicks did come with a dummy blade in them to keep the tension. I think I remember hearing that they were made of brass or copper. However if you have the black handled one I'm guessing it has a chrome head, perhaps they used a piece of steel so that it would match. Pure speculation of course. BTW I think those black handled injectors are pretty rare, don't see em as much as the white ones. Nice find!
