Maybe we shouldn't make a shaving video until after we've learned to shave with the razor.

I can not believe he didn't cut himself more. Only the one nick??

Heaven knows I am no expert and shouldn't criticize, but I kept waiting for copious amounts of blood to come gushing at the camera.

I only watched the first 40 seconds or so, but it didn't look all that bad. He starts on his neck under his chin, but considering he'd never used a DE before, his angle actually looked pretty good.

Obviously he has no lather to speak of.

Is there something else that happens later that makes this video terrible?

I don't understand how we as a "gentleman's" forum have this recent trend to post shaving videos only to ridicule people and their poor technique.

doesn't seem very gentlemen like to me.

Rather, shouldn't we contact these people and steer them towards this site and the tips and advice that lie herein?

If he was smart like us, he wouldn't be using Caswell-Massey shaving cream.

There are two distinct subsets of B&B members, those that do nothing all day but nitpick eBay listings, and those that do nothing all day but nitpick YouTube videos, and then proceed to post their findings here.

This is the second thread I've seen posting this same video, and the last one was just as obnoxious as this one. Honestly It's really not that bad. I dare say many of us here had worse first DE shaves. If you've ever given yourself a minor nick, or a bad case of razor burn, then you've been as "bad" as this guy. Really the only stupid thing he did was to video tape his first shave and post it to youtube essentially saying "hello internets I don't know what I'm doing, feel free to ridicule me". He did make an easy mark of himself, but is there really any point in pointing out how newbish an admitted newb is? What purpose do threads like this serve? Do they make us feel superior because we know how to shave without cutting ourselves? Are we really any better than this guy? I dare say the most expert among us probably got that way more by learning from our own mistakes than from ridiculing others.

My first shave was not very good either, but I was smart enough not to film it and post it for the world to see. To do that you are only opening yourself up for criticism.

Yeah, just best not to make a video for others to ridicule. The woman did mention "feather" so there must be some shaving knowledge. For no lather to speak of he came through alright. If he had an Alum block he may have felt something.. :001_smile

Ugh you're telling me. Seems to be more and more of these popping up.
Again, post what you want but I really Really wish we had a subsection for critiquing/complaing about things like eBay and YouTube. - and yes I have suggested this to the mods!

To which they responded: "we already told you we're not going to do a woman's section" :tongue_sm

Perhaps this thread would do better in a different area of B&B, but hey.

If people post a video about what works well for them, then fine.
If they post a video about their first experience, then fine.

But this video is meant to be semi-instructional even though the person has never used a DE before. I'd say that a little jest is welcome.

Nah, I don't mind the Williams. I use it every now and again- but when you have DR Harris, Mama Bear, and Speick in the rotation it makes it hard to do:001_smile
