The USGS has an Earthquake Notification service where they e-mail you reports of Earthquakes, depending on the severity level you choose and the location.

I think this would be useful for folks with cell phones that can receive e-mails.

I've subscribed for a while.

Still have the Haiti earthquake mail in my inbox. When I saw the epicenter was 10mi from the capital I knew things were going to get bad.

When the most recent one had a subject line of "2011-03-11 05:46:23 (M 7.9) NEAR EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN..." :sad:
