Bone handle brush gets polish and new knot

I've had this brush for a while and tried using it as it was but the knot loosened and I was able to pull it out.

I had a fan shaped knot that was a bit big 19.5mm that I shaved down to 18mm
and installed it.

The handle is 43mm and loft is 43mm as well.

I love natural horn and bone handle vintage brushes. Sadly I can only find them immediately after I've made some other prohibitively large purchase.

Very nice brush. Didn't realise you could shave the knot size down. What's the base of the knot made of? I'm on my first restore and haven't received my first knot yet. Not too many loose hair floating out?

The base of the knot I used was glue(epoxy).

If you order your knot from The Golden Nib, you should have no problem getting a knot diameter very close to your handle hole diameter.

The reason for shaving was because I had the knot already and rather than order another I made that one work.

The shaving took down the diameter and a layer of hair also.

Having worked the knot and brushing it, I am confident that all the loosened hair is gone and no more will fall out.

What would be the best type of bone to use for making a bone handled brush? anything special needed for turning a bone handle on a lathe?

Nice work and knot selection. Vintage bone handle are some of my favorites. That one has a great shape and looks to have a nice patina that adds to the look. Congrats on the brush.
