I know there are prior threads on this, but I'm starting a new one anyway.
So what's your favorite?
I think I've only tried two. Royall Lyme and GFT. I eventually sold them both. I enjoyed the scent of both (GFT > Royall imo) but the longevity was *maybe* an hour max on both of them. Most colognes last about 6 hours on me, the Limes lasted a fraction of that. Not worth the $ for me (I'm admittedly cheap) unless you want to wear it for a quick dinner with someone.

Agreed. I also like Taylors Victorian Limes.

I'm kind of bummed. I have Virgin Island Water which has amazing lime opening, but the lime doesn't last.
I get frustrated that I rarely see any reference to a lime scent with legs, and longevity kind of a thing with me.
I had hopes for Tom Ford Azure Lime since most of his stuff is strong...but I've seen a couple threads at Basenotes that it too is weak on longevity.
Pen's Lime has the most legs on me, but it is soooo expensive.
Taylors and Trumpers both smell amazing, but just don't last.
Lime is such an amazing scent, but it just doesn't last. :(

I'm not a huge citrus or limes fan so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I have tried about 4-5 lime scents. For what it is worth, the Azure Lime had the longest legs of any. I would say it definitely fell short of the TV or TL longevity, but I remember it doing fairly well for what it is.
If I were a limes kinda guy, Ford's would probably be my top choice.
It's the nature of the beast I am afraid. Lime scents just don't seem to be longevity kings.

C&E West Indian Lime doesn't get the attention it deserves IMO. Lime with a heart of spices and flowers....very nice. I also like TOBS Victorian Lime. More complex than Trumper and lasts longer than 2 minutes.

St Johns West Indian Lime Cologne (https://www.stjohnsbayrum.com/Classics.asp) is one of the most potent and long last limes I have ever used.

Same here. I get a good 6 hours out of it. What a great way to start a warm day.:thumbup1:

I like Penhaligon's a lot. It lasts longer than T&H, but not that much longer.
The St. John's stuff, to me, smells almost EXACTLY like T&H, but lasts longer. It's a pretty good juice.
Although it's not a true "lime" scent, I'll add one more plug for Monsieur Balmain, which is a lemon over woods scent. Big blast of citrus at the outset; calms down over time but retains the citrus for 4 hours or more, then turns into a warm, nice woods scent that lasts almost all day. Very nice stuff and worth a look if you want a citrus-based scent with some legs.:thumbup1:

Nice choice for a hot summer day. I doubt the projection is good but I can still smell it on my skin/shirt hours later. I try to use everything lime... I think the layering helps the longevity a bit.

How's Floris limes?
On me, Floris Limes starts out a very nice lemon/lime burst of citrus. I really like it! But then after a few minutes the Lily of the Valley rears it's head with the neroli and I can't stand it... and I like neroli. Somehow, on my skin the combination just doesn't mix. It's too bad the opening doesn't stick around. Thankfully it's all gone in about 30 minutes.
I'll add another mile to the original Crown Spiced Limes. It's my favorite, by far. As mentioned, it isn't a pure lime, though it's highly noticeable. It also has a spiciness to it with a grassy base. It smells great and has excellent longevity. That juice lasts a solid 8 hours on me. Huge thumbs up.

i like the st john's stuff. no 74 lime is also pretty nice but less enduring, i think, than the st john's cologne (same price for st john's colonge AND the after shave version??)

I kind of like the Floris Limes. Only tried a sampler though so i ahve not been using it for a long time. Good for warm humid weather where it still make you feel fresh, unfortunately the scent dissipates fast, so better bring some extra with you if your out a whole day.
I am considering one for myself, but have not made up my mind yet..

I woke this up to say that I tried Pen's Lime today while I was out shopping. The scent was beautiful. Very true to the lime, with a faint, bitter hint of the zest too. Sadly, I sprayed it on my wrist, walked outside and it was gone by the time I reached the next corner.
Of the different limes that I've tried, strangely enough the one that it most reminds me of is the bottle on the far right hand side of bythebook's top photo on this page:

TOBS #74 Victorian Limes is, IMHO, the finest lime scent of all time. A few other classics:
Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes
Caswell-Massey Lime
St Johns West Indian Lime Cologne (it's been described as being close to the now defunct Old Spice Lime of the 1960's & 70's)
Royall Lyme

Im hooked on lime scent right now, I have ordered samples from Truefitt & Hill, Trumper, St. Johns, Penhaligons and Angila Perfumery; still waiting on the last two. But so far with the frist three, they all smell nice with perhaps Truefitt smelling the sharpest lime scent to my nose, but all gone within a minute or two. I bought Honey Bee Gardens Key lime after shave which smells like the pure lime oil, but disappears equally fast, and I bought a bottle of Royal Lyme bllind just based on the reviews because its not that expensive, but still waiting on it. I dont know what TOBS Victorian limes smells like, but given its reputation for longest lasting of the limes, may pick that up too. BTW, i found a fantastic lime scented soap at Whole Foods by River Soap Company, it smells really strong of fresh lime to me, actually it smells even better than any of the lime colognes and aftershaves I have smelled.

I've been on a lime kick as well, none of them last very long, the lime that is. The TOBS and Royall are both nice, I have both, I think the Royall is a little more candy lime, then a bay and spice fragrance that lasts a decent while with hints of lime. The TOBS smells more lemon oil-ish to me, it dries down to what is essentailly a leather fragrance, with some florals, with hints of lime too. The both last a few hours, but the lime is mostly gone pretty quickly on both, just hints here and there. I think the Royall drydown may be a little nicer, IMHO. I am beginning to think that some lime balms and splashes may be just as fun and cheaper. Lime just does not last.

The Penhaligon's is going to blow you away, but it won't last long, either. Lime essential oil is fleeting. No way to change that; at least not at present.
I'm going to again recommend Monsieur Balmain as a citrus cologne with serious staying power. I have to warn you, though, that it is not a lime scent but a lemon scent. I still find it very invigorating and refreshing. It's priced right, too. You should look into it unless you hate lemons.

Sounds good to me, read some reviews, all positive, think I will try it out. I like the scent of lemon, but for most people its psychologically connected to cleaning products because so many of them of lemon scented. Honestly Im kinda like that too, when I break open a fresh lemon rind and smell the oil, it does remind me of lemon cleaner. But then I think, logically a fresh lemon can not smell like cleaner, it is the cleaner that was made to smell like a lemon, and then it helps break the psychological issue. If cleaner smelled like pizza, then peole would say pizza smells like cleaning products. Same deal with lavender.....

I get a decent amount of longevity from Royall Lyme, but that's only because I splash it as an aftershave.
I got two vials of Pen's Extract of Limes after a haircut at Truefitt recently and love it. Alas it's gone in no time flat. Hard to justify 140 bones or clams or whatever you call them for something that fades so quickly.

Kingfisher, I've been eying the Balmain, but I have been a little afraid of lemon as some of them have been compared with Eau Sauvage, which I like the top-notes of, but turns to poop on me rather quickly. I have the same fear about YSL pour homme, which is another lemony fragrance I've been eyeing. Can you tell me if Balmain is different enough in the drydown from ES?

I'd love to help you, but I'm not familiar with Eau Sauvage. The Balmain, on drydown, retains a nice, muted woods note that's not exactly sandalwood but bears some resemblance to it.

Believe me when I tell you that the blast of lemon you get right out of the bottle doesn't smell at all like any cleaning product I've ever smelled. It's just powerful and refreshing. Ever peel and eat a fresh Meyer lemon? It's kind of like that.
