I want to buy a durable cigar cutter as a gift for a friend. I was originally looking for an engravable cutter, but I have since decided it's more important to get a good quality cutter than one that's engraved (not that they're mutually exclusive -- it just seems the ones designed as gifts have more disposable blades). I may add a lighter to the gift, as well.

I was looking at this cutter:

http://www.amazon.com/Cuban-Crafters-Stainless-Perfecto-Cutter/dp/B003MB0Q2Q/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1299210787&sr=8-9

Any thoughts or suggestions, gentlemen?

Hmm, a good cigar cutter means good still and good construction. Take a look at Zino cutters. They are really solid, well made and stay sharp.

For the price, it's hard to go wrong with that. Looks fairly heavy and sturdy. Pretty sure I have one somewhere, along with my other dozen+ cutters, but I only use my Xikar folding scissors.

Zino is an excellent cutter, but pretty pricey if I recall.

Zino is an exellent cutter - got one myself, but for the price I think Xicar (www.xikar.com) is even better - I got that one too and after buying Xikar, my Zino stay home in a drawer most of the time. I think they offer engraving too.

Shipping worked perfect form US to Taiwan.

Go with either a Xikar or A Palio, both are guaranteed for life for life, so if something breaks or the blades need sharpened, you can either send it in or walk into a authorized dealer and trade it in for a new one. I've got 2 xikars and have used the Palio and would be thrilled with either one.

I have that exact cutter on the way from Amazon. I have seen one in a local shop as well & it appeared to be very nice.

I bought a couple of modestly-priced cutters the brand name is Mean Sardine. One jammed after a year but the other keeps going strong after 6 years.

I have a bad habit of losing cutters so the MS cutters are nice cross of quality and price.

+1 for Xikar based on owning one, and the same +1 for Palio based on using a friends when we meet up at one of our favorite cigar bars. Two very different cutters that both do an excellent job and have outstanding warranty and customer support.

I have that exact cutter on me right now. They are excellent and come with a lifetime warranty from Cuban Crafters.
I have had mine for about 3 years and never had an issue with it.

Received mine from Amazon yesterday & it is very nice :thumbup1: As mentioned above, it has a lifetime warranty from Cuban Crafters, though it appears to be so well-built that I imagine they don't see too many of those warranty claims.

I have an Xikar Xi and two Cuban Crafters own cutters. All three are excellent and both companies stand behind their products. The one thing about the Xikar Xi, it takes time getting used to it if used as designed and not get the skin on the fat pad of your thumb caught in it as you squeeze to cut.

Just my $.02.

I to have a xikar XI2 and it is a great cutter but quite a bit more pricey than the link you posted. If you could spare a few more dollars would go with the Xikar X8 which usually can be had around $20. I've heard only good things about it and it will come with a lifetime warranty, which the cuban crafters will not. If you ever have problems you can exchange at any Xikar dealer.

I have Palio and Xikar cutters.

Both are high quality items with lifetime warranties.
I prefer the Palio, but you really cant go wrong with either of them.

I'm sure it's bad luck on my part, but my Xikar cutter busted a spring out of the box. I know they're highly respected in the cigar world, but for the price, I would invest in a good quality plunge cutter. Just my opinion.

I'm in the Xicar camp as well - I've had one of their cutters for several years and it cuts flawlessly every time.
