For me its skateboarding.

I have loved watching it ever since I was around 12 years old. I am 27 now. Bad day at work? I often reach for a dvd when I get home or if its a bad half day at work:ohmy:, then at lunchtime I usually log onto youtube to watch some clips, like; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcQUUh6p_BE

For me there is nothing better than watching a talented skater putting their heart into what they are doing. That combined with decent filming & a great soundtrack and I'm golden. I get the best of both worlds, music & skateboarding. I have heard so many new bands/solo artists just from watching skateboarding.

When push comes to shove, regardless of your mood what at your core do you love and will never fail to cheer you up?

Feel free to post youtube clips/ links etc.

This is west coast swing ... more modern and sexy . I like the lindy hop style better as this style is a bit poser-ish in my opinion, but sometimes play around and throw in a bit of it if the music suits.:

I love watching NASCAR (yes, I realize they usually only turn left:001_rolle). Jeff Gordon is my favorite driver, followed closely by Joey Logano. I've got to have someone to cheer for when Gordon finally hangs up his helmet.:biggrin1:

For some strange reason, I'm also extremely interested in anything from the old Soviet/com block countries. Watches, guns, memorabilia, or whatever. I think because all of that stuff came from countries that were under a government system that I consider to be broken.

A crazy sport I have been doing for 24 yrs. We enjoy camaraderie, stories, drinks and time together. Everyone is like a big family and for some, this is the only time we see each other during the year. Very much about family and tradition.

Well, I'm new here and I'm intentionally trying to stay as anonymous as possible for now, so there isn't going to be very much about me that members here will know, but I do have a few odd interests and hobbies. I'll name one here for starters:

Old film noir movies. Films like The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep (and even other noir films that Humphrey Bogart hasn't starred in... although I believe that Bogart was the greatest actor to have ever lived). I just think older suspense and film noir were done better, they were done right compared to the crap that's being put out today. And this is coming from a horror and scifi fiend.

I definitely prefer the 1st vid to the 2nd. To me it just seems much more energetic & rock n rolly! Like you said the 2nd one seems a bit more poser-ish. I LOVE the freeze (is that what you call it?) at 1.13 secs on the 1st vid, also the aerials & costumes make it seem much more interesting to watch, for someone who has never seen it before.

As a musician both by way of a hobby and as my occupation, I am thrilled to see a musician who takes an interest in something other than the guitar (everyone seems to play guitar), which is also one of the instruments I am guilty of playing, making me a hypocrite.

As you enjoy the music of West Africa, there is a Tuareg group from Mali named 'Tinariwen' that fuses contemporary Western music (as in the 'Western world', not Western Africa) with traditional Malian music. Check them out if you get the time.

Keep drumming, sir!

I had a Spitfire that I drove to work most days. I say most days, because I had to walk to a service station once in a while. Calling a Spitfire a "daily driver" is a cute comment, at least for those of us who have owned one and tried to get to work five days a week with our butts about 6 inches off the pavement, at the mercy of Lucas electric components.

Thanks, Justin. I'm familiar with Tinariwen and enjoy their music very much, as I do most of the music from Mali. I'm always amazed at how West African music (and particularly that from Mali, part of the old Malinke empire) is tightly linked to American musical styles. The root connections between blues, jazz, and the West African styles is remarkable.

BTW, I am a former guitar player, but after years of struggling and minimal progress, I finally gave it up, sold the guitar, and moved on. I think I've found my true musical calling with African percussion! :001_cool:
