A couple of us have discussed a meetup sometime this spring.
Red Top Mountain/Lake Allatoona seems central enough for the local members that i'm aware of (Rome area - Alpharetta W-E, Rome - ATL N-S)
Date: TBD
Ideas/input appreciated.

I'm in.
March 12 or April 9 would be the two best days for me. I could probably make it on a few other days though.

Subscribing to this thread. I'll do my best to make it, but it seems like our hectic family schedule changes from moment to moment. Sounds like it will be a good time!

I often work weekends, but I would try to make it out. Looking forward to possible details.

hey cool a bump that wasn't me
it's looking like April 9th is our best bet, so take that as a pending date. Red top is $45 to "rent" a day use thingy. I think we'll be looking for another place
one to consider:

I don't live in the area anymore, but Grew up in the Accasaw region (Acworth/Kennesaw for those unfamiliar) and graduated from North Cobb HS. Cooper Furnace is a great place for day use; far less crowded than Red Top and you have trail access to The Allatoona Dam.
Thought I'd offer some insight in case some weren't familiar with the site.

Thanks Ginsu, it's looking like that'll end up being the place.
I personally like hiking up the mountain (can't remember which one it is ATM) and picking the wild muscadines :thumbup1:

Yes indeed. It's a great spot for that. We used to hike a lot and there were some good rock formations along the way that made for good bouldering practice.

I'm all for cooking out.
They probably have grills there, but if they don't I can throw the weber in the back of the truck. Just something simple like burgers and dogs and chips, maybe some baked beans or something.

I could be interested, but I often get called in to work on weekends at the last minute. Mark me as a "maybe". What times would we be looking at?

If I'm not working (and I can talk SWMBO into it) I'll see what I can do. It is usually a nice motorcycle ride to Cooper's Furnace.

Great meetup, guys! I learned alot and will be better prepared for the next meetup. Also met the nicest bunch of guys. Didn't get to see the Shoe-hat, though. Maybe next time. It was a lot of fun! Those that didn't make it missed a beautiful day at the furnace.

About 3.5 to Atlanta. 4 if you do the speed limit. 27 if you hit ATL at rush hour.

It was great to meet you too! Good food, good company, and straight razors. It don't get much better than that.

:lol::lol::lol:
Got to smell some soaps and aftershaves I hadn't tried.
La toja - :thumbup1:
Speick - not for me
Tabac - Not the polarizing scent I was expecting. I liked it ok, nothing special.
English Leather AS(vintage)- DEFINITELY not for me
Timberline AS(vintage)- Good stuff
Wind Drift AS(vintage)- Good stuff
Apparently those 3 AS came in a gift package together in the 70s or so. I came home with the Timberline, and tried to get the Wind Drift too but Tele wouldn't give it up. :glare: He did give me the La Toja stick as a consolation prize though.

Me, to. Agreed that the Tabac isn't for me. Doesn't smell like I thought it would based on the name. The Speick didn't seem to have much of a smell at all to me.
My wife love the GFT Sandalwood sample y'all sent home with me. She wants me to get some more. I did like what it did to my face after my shave when I got home, so it goes on the list.
Oh, and SWMBO didn't do too much damage to me shoe shopping yesterday. Bought 3 pairs of dress shoes for work on sale and had a 20% off coupon on top of that!

Sorry that I could not make it, gents. I had car issues in the form of a blown heater hose. I spent my day tracking down a replacement hose and making the repair instead of meeting up with you all. Looks like I missed a good time!
