I'm replacing my beloved Merkurs for the Red IP's. I just ordered 200 so I should be well stocked for the next couple of years. I love the Merkurs and the price doesn't bother me so much. Although they are about twice the price of the Red Ip's they still aren't that much money.
Blade sharpness is a curious thing. I admit the Merkurs aren't the sharpest blades on the planet. They don't really tug at my dense beard but they do cut through with a little resistance. What they lack in sharpness they make up for in smoothness. I always get close irritation free shaves out of them which is why I've liked them for so long.
I had a single pack of red Ip's that I've been trying every so often and at first I didn't like them as much as the Merkurs but now I'm developing a real appreciation for them. They cut my beard much easier and they are just as smooth. What's more is they have for me the same longevity. I get 3 to 4 shaves out of each.
So conisdering everything I went with the IP's. 200 should last a couple years by my estimation and the price was right. Each 100 pack was $16.50 That's $1.65 a pack. Pretty reasonable as far as I'm concerned. And yes I admit, far far cheaper than Merkurs.
