Ok, so I've decided that it is time to upgrade my brush. I'm still using my Tweezerman that I started with 6 months ago. Lately I've been almost entirely face lathering. I use creams and soaps almost evenly. I'm thinking of something in the Simpson line. Looking to spend no more than $125. Go...!

Vulfix (they make Simpson) 404 'Grosvenor' boar/badger blend. $25-30 US.
OR (if you insist on the Simpson name and spending $60+
Simpson Duke 1 in Best.
I have both. When my Grosvenor is broken in, I can see my Duke getting sidelined. (But, I also just ordered two Omega boars. That's a different story).
Good luck! :w00t::w00t:

I agree that the 404 is an excellent choice, if you care to expand your horizons beyond only badger and the Simpsons brand.

Buy a couple of brushes. If you're a true face latherer you'd want at least one boar amongst your arsenal. Or if you just want the one brush, you could get Rudy Vey to knock you up something amazing for that kind of money. If I was going to spend $125 on a brush I wouldn't hesitate.

I would suggest the Grosvenor LE from Bullgoose. Lovely handle; wonderful knot; great for soaps and creams.

Vulfix 375 or Kent bk8 both great brushes for creams or a nice Semogue 1520 Superior Boar Bristle Shaving Brush for hard soaps.

How do you intend to use the brush? If it is a travel brush that could be lost in the airline baggage system, I would recommend a $4 Burma-Shave brush for that purpose (it does not say what it is made out of, but I can tell that it is a boar brush). I use one and it loads enough soap for four passes without issue. My only complaint is that it loses about two hairs everytime I shave -- so it would probably only last about six months to a year of daily use. I will try to remember to post somewhere when my current Burma Shave brush konks out. I would concur that you need a boar brush if you are going to use hard soaps rather than creams as many badger brushes are too floppy to work with hard soaps. By no means spend $100 plus on a brush. Decent boar brushes can be bought for less than $30 for sure.

The Duke 3 is perfect for face lathering both creams and soaps.
