Ok today, I have a meeting at 4PM NZ time, it's 3.30 already so a quick story to tell.

Today I went to the gym for the usual workout, but today is big cheese meeting day, so I thought I'd pull out the stops and have a close smooth shave, because it's all about looking your best and professional.

SO, I lather up and go stand in the sauna while I rub the shave cream in my face, a few guys sitting in there look at me for a while, and say nothing.

then I leave grab my straight and brush and cream back out of my locker and head to the sinks.

Guy who was in the sauna is now standing at a sink picking his zits or whatever and does a double take at the straight razor sitting on the counter.

"Whooooaaaaa, what are you going to do with that" he asks.
"Errm shave with it mate" say I.
"*hit, you'll cut most of your face off with one of those" he said
" wanna bet, just stand there and watch" I advised...

the next minute 4 blokes are all standing there watching me shave with my straight, which I might add I haven't used for a few months, I want to make a good impression with this stuff so take my time, pull out a perfect 3 pass shave and a near as damn it BBS finish.

Now they ask if I can shave them "Old fashion style"...ha ha ha .....I don't think I'm up to shaving others just yet, but I now have 4 new friends at the gym all asking where to get stuff like I have.....

..sorry guys, the price for shaving gear might just go up a little more.

How much you asking?

:tongue_sm

People don't believe me when I tell them I straight shave. I can't imagine the looks I'd get if they were actually to watch me do it.

I get a lot of blank stares when I tell people I shave with a straight razor. I think some of the guys I have talked to think it's cool once they get past that initial reaction of trying to figure out why I would do something like that.

*edit* Great story, btw, OP.

Next time you should charge them for letting them observe you shaving with a straight.

"Roll up, roll up, roll up ladies and gentlemen to watch this death-defying act as a man WILLINGLY puts a lethally sharp blade to his face to slice off his stubble! NO guards! NO protection! NO gel-strips of ANY KIND! Witness the human face-shredder, ladies and gentlemen!"

Most people I tell are just like, "ummm alright." and that is the end of the conversation. :001_rolle Even a lot of people that are real into knives of all kinds don't get it.

All I get when I tell people I use a straight razor is the "but, but.... Sweeney Todd!/You'll kill yourself/Do you have some kind of deathwish?" speech. I then go through the "I haven't cut myself/name me somebody who died from a straight razor cut/how much do you like buying cartridges every 2 weeks" speech. Usually it ends with a shoulder shrug.
You do get the odd person who is interested to learn more, though.

Just ordered my first straight. Was telling one of my coworkers and sort of got the "what, are you crazy look." It was funny since I work with a bunch of gun/knife nuts and we all constantly have bald spots on arms from shaving hair to check the sharpness of a knife.
