So I bought this pipe on the clearance rack at a pipe store in the 80s when I was a teenager. I've always liked it. I bought it because I thought it was very pretty and rather unique, but I haven't smoked in years, so I figured it was time to part with it. I figured I would get maybe $20 for it I was very pleased that it turned out to be more like $50, but I'm also a bit puzzled as to WHY. Most briars don't seem to sell on the bay for that much. Can anyone tell me what's so special about this one? Just curious.

It looks to be a superb piece of Briar with a nice Danish Freehand shape. Capable of holding a large amount of tobacco.
It should have gotten at least $50. I have sold 4 Erik Nording pipes in the past week and the group 4 pipes similar in size and style to yours all went in the $45 to $50 range. On a good day you might have gotten $75 or more.
Sometimes on ebay you will also get lucky and some guy with very little feedback and ebay experience will overpay.

I just sold a Peterson P-Lip System pipe for $105 to a guy with a feedback count of 2.

Considering all factors, I'd say that the price was within average range. It's a very nice pipe, with nice grain, generous wall thickness, and an overall aesthetically pleasing shape.

Well nice! It was my first pipe, I think I bought it for $20 off the clearance table in a very nice pipe shop that made their own pipes as well as selling a very good selection of other pipes. I always liked it, but again it was doing me no good in my closet. I'm pleased to have gotten good money for it to help offset the cost of my new razor habit. :thumbup1:

That's about what I'd expect from a freehand Danish of that size, even without the carver known. To be honest, I could even see it with a higher price.

BEAUTIFUL. I'd have easily give $50 for it. Probably closer to $100 if you caught me in a good mood.

Free hand pipes seem to be the rage now...silver band, great looking briar...$50 was a good deal for someone... and for you congrats on your sale.
