So I recently bought a new Dovo straight razor and have been taking what I thought was pretty good care of it (its my first razor). Lo and behold I have found what seems to be some little rust (maybe even pitting??) spots on the spine. whats the best way to get rid of the stains and rust and prevent this from happening again? Is maas the solution followed by some tuff glide? does anyone know where to find these products (in canada)?

Thanks!

Edit: what maas product do I want if that is the way to go? Liquid or Cream polish? or Jewellry polish?

I know the OP posted this over a month ago, but after searching the forums for posts about this I found this one.

I'm having the same problem (live in the US). I've made darn sure that blade is bone dry after every shave I've had with it thusfar. I'm not sure if the pitting was there when I bought the Dovo or not, but anyone have any advice on how to reverse/stop the problem? I don't want to lose my new razor to corrosion after having it only two weeks or so.

Do you live in a humid area? Is there a chance a drop if water found its way to the razor after use? (I saw SWMBO shake her hair the other night after a shower, sending lots of little drops onto my shaving gear.)

Your best bet is to store your razor in the driest part of the house. oil it between uses if it is not going to be used for more than two or three days. Keep it in a tupperware box with silica if you live somewhere super humid.

I actually keep it on my dresser far away from any water. It's along the spine which puzzles me the most since it's been very wintery here in Western New York and thus really dry, and I make it a point to take a dry hand towel to wipe off the spine and then I do a quick 5-10 passes on my strop to make sure the cutting edge is dry.

It could have been there when I got it and didn't notice at first and/or got worse. I was just wondering if there's anything I can do to polish it out/stop it dead in it's tracks. Maybe I'll just start putting some oil on the spine after I'm done with it for the day.

Or perhaps my new razor stand will help the situation some. I didn't spend a fortune on this razor (about $75) because I kind of figured I would beat it up a little bit, but still want it to look nice and not corrode to nothing on me.

This may sound like a silly question.

When you close the blade do you use your fingers, or a cloth? Nothing will rust a blade faster than the oils your skin leaves behind. It could be your fingerprints rusting the spine.

Not a silly question at all actually. I never thought of that to be honest. I'll make sure I close her up with the cloth after drying and see if that helps.

Hmmm, curiouser and curiouser.. I just had a look at my Dovo, ebony handle which I recieved first week of December. It has some spots on the front face of the wedge, at the toe end. And a bit of what looks like fairly old corrosion in the crease of one shoulder.
Under the loupe, there appears to be a crack in the spine running from the toe end most of the way along the spine, it runs down to the spots on the toe, and I can see other spots starting along the crack.

Is this a fault I should talk to TESS about?

That doesn't sound good!

And I'm not familiar with who or what TESS is but, maybe!

Sorry, I keep telling myself not to get caught in the old abbreviation trap.

TESS is The English Shaving Shop, where I bought my razor.

I'm thinking there might be a bad batch out there. Is there a way you can magnify your razor( about 20x is good ) to get a good look at it?

I don't have anything that can magnify that much unfortunately.

It's the Kodak Conjecture.

The closer something gets to Rochester, NY, the higher the likelihood is for it to become arbitrarily crappy

I managed to get some photo's of mine...maybe it will help you compare, to decide if the same thing is happening with yours.

Mine isn't that bad. It's just a couple of tiny pitting marks right below the spine near the point.
