View Full Version : Verizon i-phone rollout is today!
Wow, just checked the I-phone roll out on Verizon, prices just came available TODAY at 3:00am.
I'm not doing an upgrade, I have to buy it outright.
For the 16GB the price is 649.00
For the 32GB the price is 749.00
Not worth it in my opinion. The upgrade (in a year for me) is 199.99.

As a non-iPhone or any smart phone user, I always marvel at how this stuff stirs people. When the latest generation of iPhone went on sale there were people lined up for a block at the Apple store on the Plaza in Kansas City. Wow.
I hope this shuffling brings some sense to the whole smart phone genre. I wanted to buy a Nokia 5830(I think that is right) last year from NokiaUSA. It is an unlocked model that works on any GSM service in the world. No dice. AT&T informed me they would add a data plan to my account "for your convenience" if I used a smart phone on their service. Even though they would have had NO subsidy or expense outlay for the phone. They gave me the line that the phone required their data network to function properly which is bollocks. The phone is not branded with any carrier's crippleware firmware. They were simply afraid of you using the wifi function to access web sites without paying them for their precious 3g network package. This is silly for me since the reason I wanted the larger touch screen was to just see the onscreen information better. My eyes are not what they were ten years ago and I thought this would help. It is no consolation that Tmobile, Verizon, and Sprint are the same way.
I just hope eventually we see the end of contracts, carrier branded phones, etc. This is crazy. Let us buy our phones at Walmart and Best Buy and you guys sell us service, eh?

I'm not buying it. I was planning on my next phone being Android (and hopefully 4G anyway). I've got to ditch this Blackberry soon but if I make it until the next gen iPhone comes out for Verizon, perhaps I will reconsider. I just like Android's flexibility. I am eligible for an upgrade now but i'm not in a rush due to financials.

Agreed!
To add, and let me preface by saying this is not meant to be slanderous against the iPhone 4, but for that money, one should consider the following:
It's not "4G." The 4 refers to the "fourth generation" of the iPhone.
It's Apple, i.e., extremely locked down in the software department.
It doesn't have a dual-core processor.
There have been no technological advances to the Verizon Hardware, so you're paying top dollar for "old" technology. I use the word "old" very loosely, but then again, this is a tech gadget, so it is..."old."
It's Apple. Be prepared to not only pay a premium for the hardware (phone), but also the software (apps).
