I'm looking for a high quality brush with super soft tips but plenty of backbone in the two band type. I'm looking to spend around $100.

Would a Simpson Chubby 1 in two band (http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-16445739206724_2143_2353711) be what I"m looking for?

I have the Colonel X2L in best and the Grosvenor LE in two-band. Both are very, very nice! Both provide backbone with soft tips; both scrub well. If at this point after several months with them both, I would pick the Grosvenor LE for soaps and creams, and the Colonel for soaps (although the Colonel is good with creams, too). If I were forced to pick just one of the two, think I would have to go for the Grosvenor (with reluctance). Fortunately I have both and having two brushes (or more) is good for rotation; they get dry between uses and provide variety.

A Simpson Chubby 1 two-band is exactly what you're looking for, but out of you $100 price range new. An Ehsan as mention is another excellent option for you and at your price point.

For a little more you could get a Rooney Heritage Stubby 1 in 2-band. What with a little larger knot and being a tad denser, it should have a more backbone.

I like the Chubby, but frankly, Simpson 2 band doesn't seem at the hair level much better than TGN Finest... the only big advantage is that it is denser. So buying anything that ISN'T a dense brush in simpson 2 band doesn't make sense to me. I think your best bet is a 24mm Bulb TGN Finest restore (Should be in the 30-60$ range). Otherwise save up for a Rooney Stubby XL ($160, and currently out of stock) or a Shavemac D01 2 band custom (Price varies but probably starts in the $120 range for a very small brush and goes up, $150-175 seems most common). Those are the two two-bands that really stood out to me. The Rooney Stubby 2 band stood out for being unusually soft tipped for two band. The D01 Stood out for having a lot of backbone and a little nice scritch (like a toned down Rooney Finest).
Another option may be the Morris and Forndran blond badger. It's getting rave reviews, but I don't have mine yet so I can't comment. They seem to start around $75 (White handle, standard size). But the price goes up if you want a larger brush or one of the Horn Handled ones.

It is a great brush. Loft is a bit taller than the 24mm (which I like)
G D, you didn't say anything about use or preference (beyond two band)? Face or bowl lather? Large or small? Tall or short? Handle style & material? Soap or cream?

I decided I will spend more money :001_tongu
which should I choose? I prefere to face lather with soaps...
Simpson Chubby 1 two band in Super (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/sich1intwoba.html) or
The Rooney Heritage "Stubby" Size 1 in Super (http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vshop/xcart/product.php?productid=667&cat=173&page=1)

Chubby... Simpson's "higher-end" brushes (generally those north of $100 - Chubby, Tulip, Polo, etc.) are phenomenal. However, this brush would be by far the most expensive purchase you will ever make. I'd take coin flip odds you would add several more Simpsons within a year.

You may want to check out New Forest brushes and still have some scratch in your pocket.

You have received a lot of good suggestions in this thread. I have several of the brushes mentioned, including the Simpsons Grosvenor LE 2 band, two Morris & Forndran Blonde Badgers (2 band) and a Rooney Stubby 2XL. I would be hard pressed to choose between them, each is a fantastic brush. I'll throw in a vote for a Morris & Forndran brush. This is easily the most brush for the price in my small collection of 2 bands. I know Lee has made some custom jobs for people, and if you tell him some specs, he usually has something or is making something up in the size you are after. I think you would do well with a 24mm Blonde Badger in something in the 50-52mm loft range.
Do a B&B forum search for "Morris Forndran" - there are several long threads with great descriptions and pictures of these brushes. Contact information for Lee is buried in several of these threads. And you will find out that Lee is/was a key figure in the Rooney brush company, too.
I notice how old this thread is, and I'd be very surprised if the OP doesn't have a nice brush in hand by now. Hopefully he'll be kind enough to share.

If that is a new Stubby go with the Stubby hands down. Otherwise skip both and wait for a Stubby XL series to show up on BST. The original Stubby's were very soft and had decent backbone, but the density was just to low to justify the prices. However this fact was remedied with the newer XL models. Failing that get a Moris & Fordran Blond badger. It's a very similar grade of hair, but comes in bulbs as apposed to the fan of the Stubby's.
As for the Chubby, I like mine, but agree with Ian's discription that its not that much softer. Plus there have been issues with them being very sharp bulb shapes that are not the most comfortable on the face. The Superior Shave has photo's of the brushes you can purchase, so if you cant live with out the Chubby get one from them so you at least know what your getting before you spend the money. However I would echo is feelings that a properly set TGN Extra Stuffed Finest is really not much less soft or dense than the Chubby at a small fraction of the price.
***EDIT***
wow this is an old thread oh well.
