I am thinking about getting a pair of Alden Indy's and I was wondering if they live up to the reputation. To me comfort is the main reason I buy a pair of boots. I like the classic look of the Indys, but if they are not comfortable then it's not the right boot. For work I wear North Face or Ecco when I am out on construction sites. I want a boot for the weekend that will last and be as comfortable as the Eccos. Any input from actual Indy owners would be appreciated.

I own a pair of the indy boots and in my opinion, they are extremely comfortable. The first day I wore them, I wore them to the air force museum and covered a huge amount of real estate, but it felt like They were boots that I had forever. I decided that they would last a long time so I was ok with the price. They are built on the trubalance last that fits like the Barrie last, with plenty of room in the toe box.

Read some of this thread (http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=85589) and I bet you will be convinced. I want to get a pair if I happen to get a tax return this year :wink2:

I like J.Crew's version http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/shoes/AldenForJCrew/PRDOVR~18428/18428.jsp

Very comfortable.

And if it turns out that you don't like them, you can easily resell them on eBay.

Not to hijack, but to those of you who own the boot, would you wear this out in the rain or while walking through snow and slush? Or is this more of a dress boot?

The soles will slide all over the place on ice (although vibram soles may be available). The boots are not dress boots, but not winter boots, either. They would make for great work boots or knock around boots. They are not especially water resistant, but wouldn't be harmed by water exposure.

Judging by the look of them they are a work boot for those who have no need for actual work boots ;)

Seriously though, those would be a dress boot for some, and casual boot for others, but a work boot? for what kind of work would those be appropriate?

I'd be too afraid to wear Alden Indies if I paid $500 for a pair.

I love mine. I learned long ago to take care of your feet so shoes are something i don't mind spending more on if I am getting good quality. There are some made out of shell (more expensive) that I would not wear unless it was sunny outside but mine are leather and have seen the rain many times with no problems.

I don't know where you got your price, but I paid $350 for mine several years ago.

The thing about Alden shoes & boots is that they can be rebuilt over & over again for a lifetime of wear. I sent my 405's back last year & recieved them in march & have been wearing them since. The only suggestion that I have is if you deciede to polish them, use netural instead of brown if you want to keep the moc toe lacing nice & white.

Thanx!!!
