I know there are fans of Avon products here so I thought I'd share. Found this full bottle of Spicy for, as you can see, the princely sum of $1.50 at a Goodwill store. If you look closely you can see the layer of dust still visible. The screw off lid was so tight I wasn't sure it would even come off without breaking it.

The piece of tape has some writing on it that I can't make out, possibly from a yard sale many years ago.

Smells great! Very similar to Old Spice, maybe just a tad less strong.

I love finding them with the after shave still in them, and at a price like that I just have to say I definetly would have snatched it too. I never find them under 6 usually.

When I was just a wee lad, I used to think all those fancy bottles on the barber's shelf must contain pure liquid magic. :001_cool:

I just picked this one up last week, full and still in the box...

Very nice! I've found a few empty Wild Country decanters, I remember using it back in probably the 80's.

OK, this is getting fun now. Yesterday evening found two more at local thrift stores. The Whale Oil Lamp is full up to the top row of beads, 85-90% I'd guess, with Wild Country and you can see the level of Oland in the chess piece. Not really sure I care for the Oland scent but for $1 I couldn't pass it up. The Wild Country was setting with several empty Avon decanters priced at $1.49, not really sure why it was only 69 cents.

The radiant lady pops right off her pedestal, which is the actual bottle. Disappointingly, it only contains 1.75 oz of the very nice-smelling Bold Spice. This one was new-in-box; the statue was actually still in a sealed plastic baggie until I "liberated" her for display, and the screw-top may never have been turned until my curious nose forced the issue. I'll soon be putting that juice to use!

I have always liked Wild Country the best, I believe it might be the oldest continuously offered scent by Avon.
Spicey and Bay Rum were also good. Some of the late 70's-80's scents were not that pleasant to my nose but as always YMMV.

Have you seen the avon bottle that is in the shape of a safety razor?

Wild Country was clearly the most successful fragrance, and it's not hard to find for sure. There was also a Wild Country Musk that I'm on the lookout for. Spicy and Bold Spice are great, and Deep Woods was another popular fragrance for quite a while. I like the smell of the Excalibur as well, but its a bit less accessible than those others.

I've kind of set some mission parameters in my collecting: I want the juice, and I don't want a lot of cars or trains. There were quite a few scents that I'd like to acquire: Blend 7, Brisk Spice, Cavalier, Everest, Granite, Island Lime, Leather, Oland, Seazone, Sure Winner, Tai Winds, Tribute, and Windjammer.

Awesome indeed, Vez. Glad I was able to find the shaving brush decanter today (although it only has a few splashes of Wild Country left; I have more of that to put in it, fortunately). I also got a nice pheasant about 40% full of Oland AS, which I tried out tonight (a little perfumy for my taste, but it's pretty nice after it dries down a bit). But the find of the day was a Paul Revere Bell chock full of "Clint" AS (1975)! I thought it'd be a little tougher to track down that scent.

Picked up three more this afternoon. Full bottle of Spicy for $2, the car feels full, but it's hard to tell for sure, of Deep Woods for $4.50 and the chess piece is full of deep Woods for $1. The Spicy bottle is interesting, I don't recall seeing any like it. The address on the back of the label doesn't have a zip code so I'm wondering if this was bottled before 1963.

For those who, like me, appreciate the Burt Reynolds (or, I suppose, Clint Eastwood) vibe, this is recommended if available. I'm not sure Chuck Norris would wear it, though.

Thanks, Tom. I'm looking forward to that Franklin soap, and the vintage Beecham-era Williams also (as a fan of modern Williams, I'm eager to see what all the hoo-hah is about).

I tried the Tai Winds last night: very, very nice. The little lady went gaga over the scent. I've got to say, fellas, that all these vintage Avon splashes have excellent performance IMO. They rival the efficacy of any of the modern aftershaves in my copious collection, and are actually better than many. I'd mourn their passing out of production, but for the fact that they're pretty readily available (and usually value-priced) on the secondary market.

At least, until I buy them all up! :001_cool:

The Tai Winds is very good, another one I'm really liking is Windjammer. This stuff really is everywhere now that I'm looking for it, I'm sticking with just buying the "economy" priced bottles for now!

You get the super deals for sure. I've found a few for $3, but most antique sellers want $6-8 for full bottles in my neighborhood. Considering that Avon charges $15 for 3.4 oz of Wild Country AS these days, they're still a bargain!

Took a puck of Beecham era Menthol Williams for a shave this morning. It generated a rich, and creamy lather with practically no effort. It may not be as top notch as the 1970's era soap, but I still found it to be vastly more than adequate. It's good stuff.

It didn't seem to have any actual menthol content though. :confused1:confused1

Volkswagen; Oland AS (unopened)
Whale Oil Lamp; Oland AS (unopened)

Blunderbuss Pistol; Everest AS (unopened) <--New scent for me, nice!

I hit the antiquers early today. Coming up totally empty after visiting 3 stores and a thrift shop, I slid into the Queen of Hearts antique mall in Alpharetta. The place is huge, and after an hour of meticulous and fruitless surveying...I ran into a vintage Avon bonanza in the final row of vendor stalls! The bad news is that SWMBO has laid down the law, so this will probably cap my collection. Unless I run into the as-yet unseen Island Lime or Seazone varieties.... :biggrin1:

I hit the antiquers early today. Coming up totally empty after visiting 3 stores and a thrift shop, I slid into the Queen of Hearts antique mall in Alpharetta. The place is huge, and after an hour of meticulous and fruitless surveying...I ran into a vintage Avon bonanza in the final row of vendor stalls! The bad news is that SWMBO has laid down the law, so this will probably cap my collection. Unless I run into the as-yet unseen Island Lime or Seazone varieties.... :biggrin1:

Picture 1:

"Country Vendor" decanter, 5oz Spicy AS (full)

"Spark Plug" decanter, 1.5oz Wild Country AS (full)
"No Cause for Alarm" decanter, 4oz Deep Woods AS
Mason Jar, 6oz? (empty, will decant Pinaud VI or Master's bay rum in there)

Picture 3:

Here's what I've picked up lately. There's a lot of these around but I'm limiting myself to full bottles, or close to full that are reasonably (cheap) priced. Rhino is about 75% full of Tai Winds but it was only $1, the golf bag is full of Wild Country and was $2.50 and the car is full of Spicy and was only $.99. I'm going to give the golf bag to my brother who is an avid golfer.

That's a great find, Tim! I think it must be the original Avon fragrance I've heard about (but never sniffed), although the carriage logo looks the same as the one on Tom's oldy-old bottle of Spicy. The bottle itself sure reminds one of vintage AV!

Guys, thanks for the comments. I'm not really an A/S kind of person so I can't remember what Old Spice smells like. In fact, this is the only A/S that I own. I'm thinking that this is the original Spicy since it does smell that way and the label is similar to Hoosier Trooper's earlier photo. I did a quick search on ebay for Avon men's stuff and it seems that his bottle is from around 1963. If you look at the earlier, rounded bottles from 1950, mine is somewhere in between the two and has the same cap as the 1963 bottle.

Tom has gotten me into more stuff here on B&B than I can almost remember. First it was GEM's, then it was Schicks, now it's Avon. So Tom, to quote someone else (inaccurately it turns out if you look it up in wiki), "Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten me into!" :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

your kidding? I can't kick them out of the way fast enough. But try and find anything Old Spice that isn't online, then I know what your talking about.

There is one Avon that I've been tempted to buy for the last few weeks, it's in the shape of an Old Time gas pump. Like this:

http://www.marktraffic.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Old-Gas-Pump.jpg

And full of something. They want $4, but I'm only willing to go $3. $4 without the original box seems excessive.

Well, nothing exceeds like excess in my book, Jim. If you'll allow me a small enabling nudge: most of the full bottles in good shape have cost me $5-8, with nice NIB decanters going for $10 or more. I've only rarely found them less expensive (and NEVER yet for the deals Tom turns up), but considering they typically hold 4-8oz of high-quality product (IMO), these are very bargain-priced compared to most comparable brands of modern AS. Avon gets $15 for 3.4oz of Wild Country nowadays (and the old stuff smells better and lasts longer). Plus, you dig that bottle, right? If I saw a gas-pump decanter for sale at $4 with contents, it would disappear instantly, even if I had to shake down the couch cushions and suffer some wifely disapproval.

These things are masters of camouflage. They're typically not prominently featured. One must develop a trained eye! There are lots of ex Avon Ladies sitting on hoards of these things, methinks. I sign the wish list when I stop at the shops, and usually spend a few minutes chatting up the proprietor so they'll notify their vendors. I've gotten several calls this way that led to good finds.

I was digging through some boxes and found this little item. It is full of Everest AS and smells great. I was at an auction a while back and bid on a set of boxes that people did not want ($1.00 for 4 boxes). Needless to say I made my money back and more and found all kinds of other goodies in the boxes. This was the only Avon product.

Oh great.

One of them is called Öland. Thats local. As in Öland is an island here in Sweden. So. What to do. What to do.

This place is terrible. I came here thinking I want a razor or two and some blades. Vintage, naturally, so info needed.

And now I have ... an ungodly number of razors on their way to my humble abode. Including straights I'm not intending to shave with. And blades, naturally. And a new brush. Just *one* mind you. And the quest for a good soap has begun.

And now this. A need for a vintage aftershave that most certainly will not be available locally.

Having scored a nice bonus at work, SWMBO gave me a kitchen pass for some more collecting. Under an outdoor table at a local antique mall, a vendor had 3 full boxes of Avon. Most of these are absolutely NOS! The boxes are in fine condition, some without any re-opening wear on the ends. Many of the bottles had the cardboard gaskets stuck to the necks, and had obviously never been opened. All were procured for $4 each.

Can't wait to try out the "Avon Protein Hair Lotion for Men."

Also in the last moth, I've found a Viking Horn (Blue Blazer), Futura (Excalibur), Gold Top Boot (Leather), Wild Turkey (Wild Country), Capitol Decanter, Big Game Rhino (Tai Winds), and Majestic Elephant (empty).

I am in search of the Mini-Bike. There are two pieces I vividly remember seeing in my Grandparents bathroom: Avon Open Golf Cart and the Mini-Bike. I have the golf cart, now I need the bike. I should also ask Grandma if she knows what other bottles she had, or if any of them are still around.

Only used Blue Blazer once. Kinda had that typical old Avon scent, maybe akin to leather or something. I'd have to try it again to see.

I might be interested in trading it. PM me.

You'll be searching to the ends of the Earth for Futura with Island Lime. It only came in Excalibur cologne or Wild Country cologne.
There's probably a few more, but Island lime came in the following bottles: Gavel, Defender Cannon, Super Cycle, Straight 8, and Pony Post “Tall”. I wouldn't mind trying that one myself.

Thanks, KJ. I got lucky at the monthly antique show in Flowery Branch; found a vendor with a good Avon stash, and they tend to wheel-and-deal very liberally if you're willing to buy several pieces. It's not really Avon, but FINALLY I found some Shulton Old Spice! There was about 5oz of strongly and beautifully scented juice in the lighthouse. The label sticker was missing, so I don't know if it was cologne, or perhaps AS concentrated by evaporation. I got to do the stickers on this one (windows, grille, wheels, mixer). It was fun in a rediscovered youth kind of way, but also more of a PITA than expected. I don't know why I didn't post it before.

"Cement Mixer," 3oz Everest AS + 6oz Everest Talc (full on both ends):

NIB Gavel Decanter, 5oz Island Lime AS (smells really nice in the bottle, and I can hardly wait to use it)
NIB Perfect Drive, 4oz Protein Hair/Scalp Conditioner for Men (formerly Protein Hair Lotion for Men?)

NOS Alpine Decanter, 8oz Original AS (used tonight, impressions in the GEMini thread)

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=26912http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=26913

Wow, this is amazing. I had the gold Cadillac that was in page 1 way back in the early 70's. I had no idea that Avon put Wild Country in so many different decanters. I know that I had others too (friend of my mothers I think single handedly keep Avon in business), keep posting those pictures!! Thanks.

I had no idea that Avon put Wild Country in so many different decanters.

There were hundreds of decanters made from the 60s to the early 00s. Most of the were available in 2 or 3 different scents (sometimes more), and Wild Country was in almost all of them. I'm currently compiling a list of all of them to add to the Wiki when it is back up and running.

Here's what I picked up last night at another Salvation Army. All are full but I'm almost embarrassed to post it after the above haul!

No embarrassment necessary. The DE Decanter is pure awesomeness!! I found one of those at a local antique shop about three-four weeks back. Likely overpaid for it (I think it was $10, or $15 dollars) but had to have it!!

As for the Chess decanters, I was thinking wouldn't it be super cool to have a complete chess set of the Avon bottles? So I went poking around ebay to see what was available (figuring such an endeavor would be crazy expensive), and stuck gold finding the 28 bottles above for a mere $21.95 ($37.45 with shipping). Since there are multiples beyond what would be needed to complete a set, some of them will likely go on the B/S/T.

Great scores! John, it looks like you'll have plenty of Spicy AS, at least, and you've got to be getting close to a completed chessboard by now. My wife has gotten more tolerant, but she still wonders where we're going to put all my stuff, so a pile like that would likely draw some irate commentary. Tom, everyone needs a "Super Shaver," and I think I'm in love with that fishing boat! I'm still batting zero on the thrift stores and Goodwills, so I might need to look up the Salvation Army.

I have another eBay score on the way, and my local antique "pusher" promises to have two unseen crates of NIP Avon collectibles for me to pick over this weekend, so I should have some more pics to show soon.

KJ, I was thinking I'd save up the bottles I didn't want to keep, then offer them in a lot price to some of the antique shops I patronize frequently. Jim's idea of a thrift shop donation seems good to me too!

Here's a little lot of old stuff I just received from the bay. The original aftershave smells the same as the larger Alpine decanter I recently acquired: a nice, mentholated Avon fragrance. I think Everest was the descendant of this fragrance, but the original has more cooling. Honestly, I expected the AS bottles to be bigger (they're 0.5 oz each), but still not a bad little lot for $10 shipped.

Why would you do that when you can put Avon Spicy into that bottle? I already have glass bottles for everything I use. All of the Avon that I use on a daily basis gets decanted into the Avon Apothecary bottles (below). I don't like using the decorative bottles day to day because they are bulky and don't make for a neat den. Some of them come out of hiding for display on special ocasions. Believe it or not, Avon Bay Rum dates back to the 1890s (when Avon was founded as the California Perfume Co). I believe it was sold through the early 70s, with another commemorative early 80s release done in a pretty glass bottle with the old-style CPC label. By any chance did you score the boxed 8oz brown barrel decanter that was recently on the 'bay? If so, that's the one I let get away (I already have one, and was willing to let someone else experience the goodness if there was any interest beyond my smallish initial bid).

Went out to a couple antique stores yesterday and scored a Country Vendor Bottle that is boxed with Spicy and the Dueling Pistol Boxed with Deep Woods. I wish I had looked at the Pistol better. Its was in its box and apparently the seal in the cap dissolved and it has leaked out over time. Thats not a problem in itself but the aftershave ate through the styrofoam clamshell in one spot! I didn't think alcohol would do that! Oh well! I cant complain I got them both for 10 bucks.

In my area there is a lot of Avon to be had. But for some reason nearly all of it is either Deep Woods or Tai Winds.

Thanks for the info on the Bay Rum. I used to dismiss Avon and not pay any attention to it. Not now! Oh goodness another AD!

What a fun thread!

My father in law gave me a box full of Avon Decanters. All sorts of shapes and sizes. I pulled out an English Bulldog Meerschaum Pipe decanter filled with Wild Country AS that I am currently using. I still like that scent. The other one I pulled out is an Old SPice telescope decanter that is unfortunately empty. The one I want to find is an army jeep decanter that I used to have when I was a kid. I have seen them on the bay but I do not want to pay the shipping charges. I already had (and liked) "Clint," in the Paul Revere Bell decanter, but started looking for these after acquiring the "Granite" bottle pictured earlier in the thread. I'm still looking for a few other flavors in reasonable deals: 4-A, Cordovan, Friktion, and Trailblazer.

Yeah! Heheh. Actually, I was chatting with an older gentleman at the monthly Flowery Branch antique show, the husband of a former Avon lady whose stall I frequent. We were talking about how all the good Avon splashes had been discontinued, and he mentioned that "Mesmerize" used to be his favorite. I hadn't heard of it. He mentioned a few others and the "straight-bottle Avon" AD took root.
Just what I needed!

Here are my finds from the 4th of July weekend. Found for $2 each at a thrift store in Traverse City, MI:

-Avon Wild Country Cologne
-Avon Firm Grip - Wild Country Aftershave
-Avon Supercharge- Everest Aftershave
-Avon Domino Decanter- Everest Aftershave

The Everest has a woodsy top note that reminds me of the original Polo.

Passed on a number of the Chess Decanters, as I am no longer trying to make a complete set, and some other standard Avon bottles that smelled off to me.

Great finds, John! I haven't seen the Domino before, but I love Everest for that outdoorsy scent and the mild cooling. There's an unboxed "Firm Grip" at one of my antique stores, but they're wanting too much for it.

I had not much success this weekend, but I did find some deals on current stuff at the month antique show: roll-on deodorants (Black Suede, Mesmerize, Wild Country) and a Black Suede hair & body wash. My super decanter guy was restructuring his booth yesterday, but promised to bring in a hoard of full, unboxed decanters to an outdoor sale next weekend. As I'm now one of his best customers, I expect I'll have my pick of these for $1-2 each. To tide me over, he handed me a cased Schick type-G butterscotch injector and an uncased type-I Hydromagic injector, gratis!! They're soaking in the Barbacide solution; now I just have to find some blades. I'm going to visit a couple likely old-time pharmacies/gas stations today.

Two free Schicks is a heckuva weekend if you ask me, especially the I2 HM.

A trade would be great. I have fairly long hair but don't put anything on it so I'll never use this. I did put some on one morning just to see what it was like.

Went on a trip last week and found a bunch of Avon stuff. I didn't take pics of it all, but here are a few of the best ones.

First up is probably the coolest piece I have ever seen. The "Twenty Paces" set. It is 2 dueling pistols, each is filled with 3 oz of All Purpose Cologne. The set was from 1967-1969. I paid $10 for it, and it was totally worth it.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q142/thevez2/Aftershave/07-10-2011_4509.jpg

Next is both versions of the Capitol Building.
White Milk Glass - Spicy, 1976-1977
Amber Glass - Tribute, 1970-1972
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q142/thevez2/Aftershave/07-10-2011_4508.jpg

It's not often that I am surprised by an Avon bottle, but I saw this one and didn't even know it existed. "World's Greatest Dad", had to have it. It was empty, but I'll clean it out and refill it with Spicy. It is from 1971.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q142/thevez2/Aftershave/07-10-2011_4513.jpg

First Edition (67-68) in clear glass, Avon Classics (1969) in brown. It isn't too often I buy a bottle that was empty. But I thought these were so cool and I thought they might make neat bookends once I refill them.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q142/thevez2/Aftershave/07-10-2011_4512.jpg

Remember When Gas Pump, these came in Red (1976-1977) and Yellow (1979-1980). I believe the yellow is a bit more rare. This one is full of light musk. This is my first time seeing this scent and it is awesome!

Totem Pole Decanter from 1975, full of Deep Woods. I 've been wanting this one for a while. There was a totem pole at a camp I attended when I was little. Good memories from that.

Not a chance. This area is awash with Avon aftershave. And I know you guys love hunting for these things so I wouldn't bother getting them just to pass on, not to mention shipping would not make it worthwhile...

But have you tried it? Vinatge Avon is about the cheapest after shave you can buy and it is great stuff. Do you use any after shave? Many of Avon's scents are clones of other scents.

Some of the bottles are cool, but the real reason I buy them is for the aftershave. Buy that box for $10-$20 and you'd be set for after shave for a very, very long time.

Some scents are hard to find, and many of us would be happy to pay shipping to have you send some of them our way.

I totally agree with you: THOSE ARE THE COOLEST!

Great haul this time out! I've passed on an empty "World's Greatest Dad" in my area (are they all empty? Maybe this is one that frequently got used!), and have seen and wanted the "First Edition" book-bottles online, but am still hoping they'll show up in my scouting. The guy I was counting on didn't bring his stuff this weekend, and it was too hot to spend much time on the hunt. I'll see him the weekend after next.

Checked my local Catholic Charities thriftstore again today, found several different bottles of Wild Country which I already have. Pondered buying a bottle of Spicey, smelled just like Old Spice. Several different glass automobiles, all empty. I am always finding something in Avon aftershaves at this store but I do not have the space to store one of each so I am staying picky about which bottles I purchase.

After passing on several over-priced and half empty or empty bottles lately i did snag these two. A Pot Belly stove full of Bravo AS and a Dutch Pipe that feels full or close to it of Tai Winds cologne. $2 for the Bravo and a $1.50 for the Tai Winds. The design on the pipe is really cool.

I really like the looks of that Dutch Pipe Tom. I have the Tai Winds in both aftershave, and cologne varieties. I am not sure what it originally smelled like, but I don't think my sample smells exactly like it is described on basenotes:

Tai Winds was a lovely man's fragrance, composed of citrus, musk and subtle spice notes.

I don't get any citrus tones from either the aftershave, or cologne. The musk, and spice I can understand. I know cologne can turn if exposed to adverse conditions (like being left in constant sunlight for 30 years) but all of my Tai Winds came with the original boxes.

I am split on my thoughts about Tai Winds. It's a pleasant enough fragrance, but I am not really in love with it.

I pick up a grapefruit blast right on top. It's significantly modified by the strong musk and sweet woody base, but I couldn't miss it, myself. Like most citrus scent, it fades back pretty quickly.

I quite like the smell of Musk Marine. In fact I think Avon's current offerings for men are quite nice, and as a huge bonus they are very value priced as well. Luc, I don't own the Captain's Lantern decanter, but I've seen it (earlier today, in fact). It's a translucent brown glass bottle with a red sticker over the lens. To me, the look of it is lower quality than the Whale-Oil Lantern or the Auto Lamp decanters.

I got two Shaving Brush decanters FULL of cologne in today but I'm not sure the smells are gonna agree with me. One is Wild Country and the other is Tai Winds. Both in the box. I thought about dumping them and filling them with something else but, I figured I'd check and see if someone wants to trade me for another scent (preferably AS, not cologne) in the same decanter. Anyone wanna do some swappin'?

Ahhhh... don't dump them! That's Avon abuse.

But you're out of luck when it comes to finding another scent in that bottle. It only came in Tai Winds cologne and Wild Country cologne. Those are two of the best scents, in my opinion. You can refill it with whatever you want, but don't waste the Avon goodness. Decant it into a plastic bottle and send it to someone else or somehting like that.

Island lime is great. It just doesn't last very long on the skin. Kind of uncharacteristic of Avon scents.

Heck yeah, I use them quite frequently!!

Assuming the bottle in question hasn't turned (from being store unboxed in direct sunlight, or by being exposed to extremes of heat, and cold) the juice will still be great quality stuff.

So far I have sampled:

-Wild Country
-Tai Winds
-Everest
-Oland
-Spicy
-Deep Woods

Wild Country still exists today, but it is somewhat water down compared with the vintage. So the vintage is a quite a bit better. I like it, and have a fairly large stock.

Of the reminder, I like Tai Winds the most, and Everest is quite pleasant as well.

Oland is a strange smoky concoction, Spicy is an Old Spice clone, and I am pretty sure my Deep Woods has turned.

At the $2-$3 price this stuff typically sells for in discount shops it is a total bargain when it hasn't turned.

I also happen to like quite a bit of the current Avon line: Mesmerize, Wild Country, and Black Suede are all in den. I eventually will purchase bottles of Black Suede Leather, and Musk Marine as well.

What do you gents recommend that I do with some Avon colonge & aftershave that has turned ugly?

Thanx!!!

If it has turned, then dumping it out is about the only thing you can do. In all my finds, I've only seen one bottle that has turned. It was a rancid sticky mess.

If you still want to keep the bottle, just dump it, the bottle will still clean out nicely.

Very nice stuff, KJ, and I do love that "plain" old Spicy bottle and talc.

Tom, OUTSTANDING buy on that Island Lime! I've got the 3 decorative decanters for that one (Super Cycle, Straight Eight, Judge's Gavel), but still haven't found the nice 3-sided bottle you scored. There's another sweet bottle with a woven cladding I'd love to collect as well. Unfortunately, like almost all lime splashes, the scent just doesn't hang around, but it's great while it lasts!

Felt compelled to rescue this banged-up old tin of Avon After-Shower Powder (all-purpose really, since it mentions use after shaving on the back). Also found a slightly-aged version of a current product, Black Suede Cologne Spray, which will fit nicely into the rest of my Black Suede set (Aftershave splash, Roll-On Deodorant, Hair/Body Wash).

Pay no attention to the $5 Old Spice refill puck, which doesn't really belong here. :001_smile

I didn't hit the monthly Flowery Branch antique show today, but I'm heading there tomorrow so I might find a few others.

Well, not too much today. I almost bought an unboxed "Touring T" decanter full of Excalibur AS, but demurred. I guess I'm getting horribly picky after so much collecting.

I did spend $10 on a pair of 3-piece Avon grooming sets, current products:
Mesmerize for Men: Hair/Body Wash, After Shave Conditioner, Roll-on Deodorant (backup)
Black Suede Hair/Body Wash (backup), Black Suede LEATHER After Shave Conditioner, Musk Marine Roll-on Deodorant (backup)

Found these two at a local thrift store for $1.00 a piece. Both are full of spicy goodness.

I had a Super Shaver with the Sure Winner and to me it smelled pretty good.

The Super Shaver came in Sure Winner bracing lotion or Spicy after shave. The Spicy is a Shulton Old Spice clone and is awesome.

I found another Pot Belly stove today that is full of Excalibur After Shave for $1.99 at a local Thrift Store. I don't believe I have any of this scent, which is very nice.

Every time I visit this thread I see bottles I've never seen. I wonder how many different ones were put out? I sure wish I would find some of these around local antique and thrift shops like you guys do. I was lucky enough to find a full Pawn Chess bottle of Wild Country for $4. I'm going to have to step up my search a notch.

Excalibur After Shave

What does that smell like? SWMBO does not care for the Avon scents so far. She still says I smell like an old man when I splash them.

I wish I could describe it for you but I don't know what to compare it to.

My takeaway on Excalibur is ginger and cedar with sweet and musk underneath. It's a great cologney scent. Good score again, Tom!

I just got back from a score.I went to a guy who has been advertising on Craigslist. He has collecting Avon for about 20 years and was thinning out his collection of bottles for 3$ a piece.

Most are in damaged or second rate bottle/decanters as I was only after the juice, not collectible bottles.

Wild Country Talc in a fire engine(missing the ladder)
Wild Country a/s 5oz in a "country vendor" car (i already have WC cologne in a locomotive)
Deep Woods a/s 5 oz in a Winnebago motorhome
Deep Woods a/s 3.25 in a locomotive"cannonball express"-damaged cow catcher
Island Lime a/s 5 oz half full "straight eight" car
Light Musk a/s 3oz third full flintlock pistol
Everest cologne 3 oz "Thomas Jefferson" dueling pistol
Oland a/s 6 oz x 2 Liberty Dollar Coin one plain glass, one with flaking silver coating
Sonnet cologne 3 oz "catch-a-fish" country boy decanter
Tai Winds 6 oz a/s in a white Benjamin Franklin bust
An unmarked Thimble filled with a dark liquid (we compared it to a thimble filled w/a lighter color liquid of similar scent called Elusive cologne)
That's 12 bottles .
The guy looked at my selections and said give me $30 and said-pick five more bottles.so I got:
an empty green railroad lantern
an empty Tai Winds chess piece-Queen
an empty Wild Country chess piece-Bishop
an empty Wild Country Pheasant
a Sherlock Holmes type pipe decanter in a holder with about a quarter full Wild Country cologne
an empty teepee
an empty eagle
His wife threw in 2 more empty bottles.
The empty pieces will be filled out of some of the larger, bulkier decanters.

I enjoyed most of scents from the bottles, can;t wait to try them out.SWMBO gave a couple thumbs up,one frown and a couple a so-so face.

So I got 13 bottles of juice and 6 empties for $30 .About 2.33 a bottle of juice.
I can smell good for years.LOL

Went to an antique store today and picked up 8 full, boxed bottles, plus a Deep Woods shower soap, and a box that has 8 demonstrator bottles of Avon for Men. The phone has Leather cologne, with the talc in the earpiece.

I like the Jaguar and the sampler. What is the scent in the Jag and are the samples AS or Cologne?
Thanks,
