I used to order stuff from these guys years ago.
Does anyone use them today and if so are they still good?

Thompson's fine but I can usually find better deals for what I'm looking for.

I tend to look to Famous Smoke (http://www.famous-smoke.com/) of JR Cigars (http://www.jrcigars.com/) for my sticks these days.

In my experience, they are pretty well known for their aggressive 'marketing/sales' tactics and ability to pass off just about anything as the 'deal of the century'... I would recommend looking elsewhere, but that's just me. There are many options out there -
www.cigarbid.com
www.cigarsinternational.com
www.famous-smoke.com
www.joecigar.com
www.jackschwartz.com
www.tampasweetheart.com
etc, etc, etc...

I have always heard that about Thompsons, therefore I avoid them. They do send me a catolog every month that I never requested. I have a brother-in-law who is in an auto-ship program with Thompsons. They ship him a box of their house brand every month. Things like Green Iquana, Chopper, Big Red Fire Engine, etc..... He seems happy with that, so I don't say anything.

A newbie might be duped by the ads, but I have found Thompson to be reliable. You get what you pay for. A $2 cigar is gonna smoke like a $2 cigar.
The 90+ Cigars are gonna cost you the same as at any shop. The only real deals to be had are the club savings if you are a daily heavy smoker. Then that free box every so often is worth it. Otherwise it's a matter of convenience if you don't want to venture out of the house to get your cigars. They do have access to many hard to find cigars as well and that can be a plus.
I used to use them, but I have a great tobacconist a few blocks away from my home. A quiet friendly atmosphere with good talk and plenty to choose from. And one heck of a bird dog that makes you go outside with her and throw the Frisbee. And a genuine Wooden Indian standing guard out front.....Yep....It's a good thing!!!

This exactly, I made the mistake of ordering from them once, what followed was constant phone calls and e-mails. CI or Cigarbid.com is where I get most of mine now.

OK I guess I'll try the cigar shop down the road instead. I just hate the taxes we gave up here on just about everything.
Bad enough paying $3.11 for gas and near $10.00 a pack for cigarettes.

Yeah WA has some steep tobacco taxes!!! I work with a guy from Camas and he only purchases the $5 Portland Cigs.

Well said. A $2 cigar smokes like a $2 cigar. I'm also a big fan of my local cigar shop. I may pay a little more, but I can try out new sticks, and I can enjoy them in the lounge - not a small benefit when it's 5 below and there are 3 feet of snow on the ground. When I find something I really like that I want to stock in my humdor, Cigars International usually seems to have them, and at a competitive price. Previous posts have Thompson's nailed - if I wanted to smoke dirt I'd roll my own.

Avoid "the big T" at all costs. After you place the your first order they will call once a week and hound you about your next purchase. There are so many place to get smokes online but don't always go with the lowest prices, you get what you pay for. Here are some of my favorite places:
cigarbid.com
cigarsinternational.com
newhavanacigars.com
holts.com
atlanticcigars.com
2guyssmokeshop.com

Serious Cigars is some good people . . . few hours up the road from me, in Houston. Great selection, great service, great prices. Wish I lived close enough to hit up their tastings and events!
Holt's and Jack Schwartz also do a fine job of online cigar retailing . . . prices are good, but more importantly, service is impeccable and your order unfailingly arrives quickly shipped, properly humidified, gently treated, and superbly packaged.

In the past 20+ years of cigar smoking I've tried several online sources and for my money JR Cigars is the place to go.
Just my 2 cents.

Another vote for cigarsinternational.com. I've found their range of options, prices and shipping to be exceptional.
Of course, nothing beats heading to the local tobacconist for quality browsing. My favorite is a little place in Lawrenceville, NJ called Tobacco Leaf just off Route 1 S.

IMO, the following are better vendors:
Famous Smoke
JR Cigar
Holts
Serious Cigars

Why don't they have one of those little smiley faces for "envious"?

Do the list prices online differ greatly from the in-house prices at Cigars International?

hmm... i'll have to check. one thing that comes to mind might be the sample packs they offer in the store; you'll pay $45 for a bag of cigars worth upwards of $60 or $70. i'm not sure if they offer those online or not.
also in the b&m they have factory seconds. i don't think i've ever seen those online either.

I'm sure I can get better deals on my favorite brands online, but I can't see the condition of the cigars and don't know how they've been kept. I go to one local shop. They treat everyone like people instead of customers (make that we do, I help out and have a key to the store). If there's a problem with a smoke, they will replace it. Plus, we have 6 or more promo events a year. Usually a buy 3 and get one free, buy a box, get 7 free; tickets for raffles for real nice ashtrays, lighters, and many other things. I usually walk out with at least a box of bonus cigars, a lighter or two and other things like a track jacket.
My real point is BUY LOCAL.

I know this is an old thread, but my continued research into the opinions of Thompson brought it to light. I just thought I'd address the post above with this category (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/catDisp.asp?cat=157) and this search (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/search/search.asp?keyword=seconds).

I have been buying online from Atalantic Cigars (http://www.atlanticcigar.com/) and have had great success. Their prices are the best that I have found, everything arrived quickly and in good condition. As much as I would like to support a local vendor (and do, for singles) the prices in my state (NY) are very high due to the heavy taxation, so any volume purchasing is out of the question. The only issue with Atlantic (as with any vendor) is that they may not carry what you are looking for.
