View Full Version : GFT Astor a nice surprise
Picked up the Trumpers' sample kit a while back, tried some of the colognes and found them pleasant but fleeting (except for Eucris, which I ordered). Some I never bothered opening, Astor among them, until yesterday.
Wow, very nice (and SWMBO-approved!), with morning-to-evening longevity. Frankly, I was shocked at how long it lasted.
Any fans out there? And any other recommended scents from GFT?
I have never tried the Astor but I have a bottle of Wild Fern in my rotation which I really enjoy.

I sent them en email requesting a few samples...Astor included. I few days later I got an envelope filled with 8 samples...none of which I requested. While I can't fault their customer service or fast shipping, I thought it was a bit funny. At least they tried.

I like Astor as well!
And Bay Rum (Nice and clove-ish, perfect for Christmas)
And Milk of Flowers (so fresh and nice in the morning!)
And Spanish Leather
And Portugal
And Skye (even though it smells like candy)
:001_smile
I don't get why they advertise Milk of Flowers as a body spray though, when they don't sell it in larger bottles than 50 ml!

I like a few of the GFT frgrances (as well as hate a few), but Astor is the only one I truly love. It is perfection. From my review:
1880.
That's when Astor is said to have hit the scene. If true, that means George Trumper himself dreamt it up, went into the underground vaults below his shop at No. 9 Curzon Street and blended this jewel to timeless perfection.
If he were an American I'd say he hit a home run; but in English terms, he belted a six.
Astor is old-world gentlemanly delight. It's fresh fragrant herbs, a dash of spicy caraway and a bit of leather, settled on a bed of musky sandalwood. It's equal parts warm and crisp. It's comforting like a well-worn cardigan. It's subtle and not cloying -- the older, less brash brother of Eucris.
It reminds me of my grandfather, but even though I'm 25 it's something I'll gladly wear.
Definitely a scent for cooler weather. Somewhat pricey at ~$70 for 100ml, but wonderfully packaged in the distinctive frosted-glass and embossed bottle of the "Trumper Collection," with a shaker nozzle and signature crown lid.
Wonderful.

Similar thing happened with me. I never rec'd the samples and then when i requested again they sent me about 10 with a few duplicates. I told them I really wanted the Sandalwood & GFT so they sent me those!!! Couldn't be nicer.
I too had a sample pack and ended up not paying attention to Astor until much later, I gave it a try one night and found I loved it. It reminds me of Christmas for some reason, it's very interesting, warm and cool at the same time, love the spiciness and woodiness, some pine in there as well. I bought a bottle a few months ago and really enjoy it. I can't imagine anyone not liking it, it's just so nice...

I like a few of theirs:
I'm wearing their Bay Rum at the moment, but my two favorites are Wild Fern and Eau De Quinine. Especially the Eau De Quinine.

How much of those little sample vials of GFT should one apply? Are they intended for 2 uses and that is about it? I like to test longevity and I want to make sure I'm applying the proper amount.
BTW-The GFT Bay Rum and Eau de Quinine are great if you have youngsters in the house (7-11) looking to try cologne but you don't want them to smell like they're wearing a traditional fragrance. The Eau de Quinine is perfect for this and the Bay Rum a close second.
