I've been lurking on B & B for almost a year. I found this site through my research to find solutions to thorougly dreaded (and painful) shave days. The wealth of information, support and "shave porn" has kept me coming back for more!

I'd just like to thank the countless posters who've enlightened me on the benefits and pleasures of DE shaving. The learning curve was steep and mirred with the typical newbie issues but your support and posts allowed me to address these recurring problems. My shaving ritual has become the perfect conclusion to my day. Looking forward to all the ongoing posts at B&B.

My current gear:
Razor -- '63 Sllim Adjustable
Blade -- Derby
Pre-Shave -- Proraso Pre/Post
Brush -- Omega Boar
Soap -- Proraso Green Tea and Aloe
Aftershave -- Witch Hazel/ AV Ice Blue or English Leather

My shaving has improved 1000 fold. I emigrated from Mach 3 and canned goo. Shaving with this gear caused significant discomfort, razor burn, nicks and dryness. With naturally oily skin, my body overcompensated resulting, more often than not, in blackheads and whiteheads.

Some blade, razor, soap and cream experimentation as well as pointers from B&B posts and Mantic59 helped eliminate much of these problems!

IMO -It is a pretty sweet setup. I'm lucky to have stumbled on the combination fairly early in my DE journey. A lot of credit should be given to the B&B members for the insight and experience with the multitudes of DE products. :thumbup1:

Welcome to the B & B and thank you for dis-engaging you're 'lurking device'.

It sounds like you're off to a great start and yes...this Forum has the knowledge, ideas, and alround 'know-how' to assist in your Wet-Shaving experience. In a nut-shell...your 'gonna' love it here.

Also, it might be very wise and 'sage' advice to get a Razor Blade Sampler to see what blade is a good fit (mild, moderate & aggressive, ect...), for your face and Razor :thumbup1:

Oh by the way, I love my Merkur's 23C & 38C...just keep practicing on your technique and your shaving experience 'will be a blast'. :thumbup1:

Additionally, you may not be additted yet, but don't feel bad...there's time because we all suffer from the shaving obsession (and other Acquisition Disorders), because at times..."Resistance is futile". http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-alien003.gif

Greetings... glad to hear from someone in winterpeg. I'll keep my eye out for deals. I've scoured many of the stores. There isn't much in the way of gear, soaps or creams. I'd be interested in wood shave bowls with lids if you find something

No blades apart from Shoppers -- Wilk Sword 10/$15. Thanks, but no thanks.
Shoppers carries Proraso, Real Shaving Company, Zihr, Aqua Velva, English Leather, Omega boar brushes
Rexall carries some of the same soap creams products and a brush (I believe it is synthetic)
Walmart and Superstore have Wlkinson Sword soap and Williams (she lathers really well with Wpg water, you just need to soak the hell of it on the first use) Williams give me a decent shave but I found it drys out my skin with continuous use
Bath and Bodyworks opened at St. Vital Mall -- Haven't gone to see if they carry Bigelow cream (Proraso clone).

I will keep you in mind if I see sales or such. Are you into cream or soap? I would be nice to have a Winnipeg page.

Mike

Thanks for all the useful information. Unfortunately, I have a bit of the AD bug... though I try hard to resist the urge. Have a 57 Superspeed and 47-49 Tech in transit, the full proraso line, 5 aftershaves and 3 colognes.

All will be lost if I start sampling some of the more expensive soaps. I have been fighting the urge to buy Tabac... I sense that i will quickly slide into full AD at that point.
