I'm looking at the knots on this page, and I"m a little confused. I didn't know that there are different grades of silvertip.
What is the difference between silvertip, silvertip grade A, and super silvertip?

So from this site I can get the knot and handle. What else do I need besides glue? And what kind of glue?

Devcon 5 minute clear Marine epoxy.
Get it in the double syringe and it's quite easy to use.
Available at Ace, True Value and other Hardware Stores.

So if there really isn't a lot to assembling these things, why don't more people do it themselves rather than spending so much money on them?
I heard that its good to drill the hole a little deeper before inserting the knot. I don't have access to any drilling machinery so thats out of the question. Is drilling the hole deeper a requirement?
When I assemble it, how do I keep the glue from getting in the hair?

silvertip is most scritchy, super the least, grade a inbetween. I only have the super silvertip, and it is indeed soft.

I did not go deeper than I wanted to seat the knot. If you do, you just have to fill up the gap with something anyway.
Be cautious about the quantity that you put in the hole where the knot goes.
If a little squeezes out, wipe it off immediately while it is still wet.
Some folks just are not "Do It Yourself" 'ers I guess.
I don't have a drill press, I use a dremel and a very cautious approach and it has worked out just fine for me.

See my Wiki via my sig below on MY take on the different grades of hair.
5 minute 2 part epoxy ( araldite here in Oz ) is what I use.
Rough up the handle hole and the knot holder of the knot to get better grip.
I only use just enough epoxy to hold the knot in. I'd rather the knot come out than put too much glue and have glue ooze out the top of the knot hole and get on the hair.
Haven't had one knot fall out yet

Somebody really should do a video on how to assemble one of these.

Phil, I use this exactly but what about other options like 2 ton or 5 minute Gel from Devcon? Are they too abrasive for possible next restoration or just for bakelite handles? Thank you and a restoration video will be nice.

There I go assuming others' usernames transcend/supersede membership here... too obvious.

I have used the Devcon I mentioned for rubberset, acrylic and bakelite with no issue, so I have not had a need to try anything else.

Actually, my building Superintendant was a woman. We met when I moved in and really clicked.
We got married many years ago and though she is no longer the building Super, I still love her - hence the name; Luvmysuper.
ok, I lied. It's because I really like Superspeeds.
