It is freezing here in Canada. It seems like it's been snowing much more than usual for recent times. The Maritimes are experiencing a so-called "weather bomb". My customers in Alberta have to wait for their products to thaw before using them! February is approaching with its short, dark days and long nights. I have something to cheer you up! 20 samples of Vetiver Paradisi shaving soap ear-marked for you, my fellow freezing Canadians.

Rules: You must reside in Canada, have a minimum of 25 posts, and not have tried Benton Clay before. Post to this thread to time-stamp your entry then email me with your B&B username, real name and shipping information. My email address: dave [at] bentonclay [dot] com .

Thank you! My sample arrived today, just after I had finished shaving with the last of a Surrey puck (old version VDH), so I'll give it a thorough trial tomorrow.

Here's my setup for tomorrow: Butterscotch Wade & Butcher (it is so worn that only 'utcher' and 'field' are still visible), my Omega brush, and the Benton Clay Vetiver Paradisi (squooshed into the old Surrey plastic holder - much safer than using a china mug). Can't wait. Thanks again.

My sample arrived today as well. Got a BIG scowl from SWMBO as she thought I spent a chunk of money on a small piece of soap. She lightened up when I mentioned it was a free sample (thx!) and we both loved the citrus smell (I use Limacol as AS). The sample should be enough for at least a week (maybe 2!) of shaves, so is by no means a wee little bit. I'm looking forward to lathering up tonight

Shaved with it this morning. Its good. I like it. I usually use Surrey pucks with a squirt of hand & body lotion to help "fluff it up". I don't think the Vetiver Paradisi fluffs up quite as much as that combination, but it does do better than Surrey alone.

Of course, even after a year of wet shaving without the canned foam, I still haven't got the water content down right: sometimes too much, sometimes too little. What seems to work best for me is to shake/spin most of the water out before loading the brush and then just dipping the tip into the water periodically and hand lathering, and dip & lather and dip & lather, until it comes up nice.

I've had 2 shaves with it so far and the scent is

I'm having "fun" getting my lather right though :mad3: I get loads of foam but it's way too fluffy/airy. I hope I don't run out before I get the right water mix. I loaded the brush VERY heavy this morning compared to yesterday (and much more than with Col.Conk or Williams) and I get loads of lather but it's not slick enough. and yes, I've added too much water as well and watched it totally break down.

Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow :tongue_sm

Thanks! I will likely be placing an order soon!

Quick question though, why am I paying so much tax? It seems to be 15% on the soap and shipping, but I live in AB and should only be paying 5%

Once in the checkout process, the system adjusts the tax rate according to the province entered.

I'm having "fun" getting my lather right though :mad3: I get loads of foam but it's way too fluffy/airy.

When I use soaps I find that loading the brush heavily and then face-lathering helps get the soap/water ratio right. If the lather is too thick and dry I just sprinkle a bit of hot water on the brush and lather some more. If it becomes too watery/runny, you just load the brush a bit more which is very easy with Vetiver Paradisi since it's so soft. Somehow this technique seems to work very well for me when using soaps, much better than lathering in a bowl.

Received my sample yesterday, immediate reaction was very generous sample size and that smell! Somehow familiar yet mysterious.

Used the soap this morning, loaded up my Simpson 105, lathers quickly and feels great on my face. The only soap I have used previously is Tabac(mainly creams). I would rate this as similar in its lathering ability, and slickness, but hands down a winner with that scent.

I need to work my way through the Tabac puck I have, but will definitely be ordering some of your soaps in the future. Great product, like to support the little guys, and Canadian to boot, eh?

Memorex88

I used it this morning. It took a bit more work to lather than the Proraso but with an extra ~minute, I had a good lather going.
Remember one thing, I've only tried 2 soaps and now yours.

My usual 3 passes halted at 2 because of this damn skin I have.
I started having irritation. My usual symptoms.
I had the same happen with Williams :-(

I guess it's back to Proraso Aloe and Green-Tea Soap AND Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm.

Too bad as the scent is fantastic!

I highly recommend it if you don't have my skin problems!

When I use soaps I find that loading the brush heavily and then face-lathering helps get the soap/water ratio right.

Face-lathering for shave #3 did the trick! Nice combo of slick+cushion made me even try ATG with my straight, which is something I don't normally attempt after only a month in. Nice all round smooth shave. SWMBO even thought I used my DE, it was so clean :001_rolle

I think I'll add Benton Clay soaps to my rotation. Well, once I get through some of the stuff I already have stockpiled (Cella, P.160, Proraso, TOBS Rose, Col.Conk Almond, and RSC Sensitive).

Thanks Dave for the chance to try this! :thumbup1:

I used mine today and so far I can only say good things.

When I smelled it right out of the cardboard mailer I wasn't sure I would like it but then I opened the plastic and it improved but I still wasn't sure if it had enough vetiver scent.

I tend to think that scents smell slightly different depending on who's wearing them.

On me this turned into a fantastic scent that lasted close to 2 hours after the shave and I can still pick up faint bits of it now 7 hours later. The vetivert really came through after it was lathered and even more after the shave was done.

I lathered it up right in the mug and it was really nice but tomorrow I'm going to try a bowl lather where I can control the water and soap ratio better.

Dave I would totally use an after shave balm with this scent. :)

First chance to use my sample tonight, wow, this soap is great. Face lathers like a champ, much better then the other soaps I've tried (granted that's slightly limited), but I really like this soap. The scent was great out of the package, but as I was lathering the scent just kept getting better. Thanks again Dave!
